AITAH for bailing on a friend because of doubt.

This was what happened. I had a friend. Lets call him Boobs because funny. We were about to play a game of FPS chess, but he started talking about a guy who made games, whom we will call Balls.
He mentioned that in these games, Balls would always target him first. Which was valid. I told him he should just tell him because thats better than silence. He went on about how he sounded like a pedophile from another Gmod server and had similar speech patterns, who we will call Cock
We went in and I completely renovated my account. But when balls entered the server. I began to doubt. Why? Well, for one, they sound a little different. Balls had a deeper voice than the pedophile. He also made minigames with relatively high skill models. That isnt something you do without experience, which Cock didnt have.
All of this lead me to believe that he was innocent. So I bailed the operation.
Boobs got mad at me. Claiming I betrayed him. I knew I did, but I couldn't deny he was crazy. He unfriended me and I tried to keep most of the chat logs secret. As he asked me to. He may have been crazy but he was still my friend.
Am I the asshole here. Its been wailing on me and I need a third party.
And boobs. If your listening. Please dont comment on your main account. I still love you enough to want you to stay private. And for what its worth, I still valued our friendship together. Im sorry for betraying you.
