Thinkcentre i5 7th and tiny 6th

Got these on eBay recently. Needed a cheaper option that worked better than the RPi 4 or 5. I'm really impressed with these. I got the big one for $30 shipped and the "tiny" for $50 shipped. Both came with RAM just no drives. I have a mini pc running a 6tb external hdd with Batocera v42 on there. Used it to test these things out today. Both worked really well. Only consoles that wouldn't work were the 3DS and Wii. Which frankly, I don't need on most projects. And with drive prices what they are I definitely don't need to be springing for a 6tb drive every project either. The "tiny" is a great size but I also don't mind using the big one if it's going in a vertical cab anyway. Very nice options to have, so much so that I think I may buy a few of each over the next few months just to have.

Cloning external drives

So.. I'm not a computer guy really. I'm no dummy either but bear with me. I've been building arcades lately and now need to copy external hdd's as fast as possible. My computer sucks so using it to clone drives does too. I was looking into standalone cloning units and from what I'm seeing they only make them with docks for the internal drive connections. The 2.5" and 3.5" I think I read. Those are the only ones I can find. So, my question is do they make ones that connect 2 drives via USB for cloning? If not is it common practice to remove external drives from their housing to use them like internals? Is that a practical way to do it? Just looking for the fastest way to clone external hdd's without using your computer or relying solely on a computer.

Done being done.

I keep saying I'm done modding this thing and then I'm not. So, I'm done saying I'm done. Added a subwoofer this weekend. Had to move the amp, the new one was too big to put where the 2.0 was. I highly recommend this no matter what games you play. It doesn’t just add bass, it adds complexity and the ability to raise the volume way up without compromising the sound quality. I was shocked how good even midi sounds. I put an 8" because it was cheapest I could find fast. I will say if you do this, watch how hard and how long you get the sub go. If you really rock the thing, I can definitely see it vibrating so much it shorts out a monitor or something else you don't want happening. But yeah this was a lot fun putting in and the result is insanely great sound. Cheap mod too. $50 gets it done.

Little project

They throw a ton of MDF, particle board and plywood away at work. I have a few projects I'm going to attempt entirely with dumpster scraps. This is the first. Very early stages but you can get the general idea. It's going to be on some mid-century modern style legs and will be about coffee table height. Plug into your TV but I'm running speakers right on the table. No idea what computer I'm putting in there or what kind of design I'll do on the deck. I have a pc I may use but more than likely this will have a pi4 build up to Playstation and I'll put N64 on there knowing most games won't really work. Very happy with the layout. I don't have a wood shop, I don't do any of the work at work. I do it in my bedroom of my 1 bed condo lol. So it's definitely slow going. But I'm looking forward to putting a nice finish on this and seeing what I got. More to come.

3DS Emulation

I have a beelink ser5 with the Ryzen 5500u running Batocera on a 6tb HDD. Everything I have on there works perfectly (including Wii, the Wii works flawlessly) with the exception of Nintendo 3DS. It's hit or miss. I've played Resident Evil Revelations over 10 hours with zero problems. But Mario and Donkey Kong titles I've tried will load and get to about the menu and then will just cut off back to Batocera menus.

Does this seem like my computer meeting it's limits? Or do you guys think 3DS needs an SSD to really perform well?

Especially now with the insane hike in price for anything even remotely computer related, I'd love to continue rocking HDDs on these projects instead of basically doubling the cost of every build I do with an SSD.

Thanks in advance.

My main rig... and one question.

Think I'm done modding this cab. This is my main rig at the moment. Sometimes I like to hide everything (amp, controllers, keyboard, etc.) but since I use this cab everyday I like keeping everything accessible. I think I did a good job of preserving the cab artwork. Thanos is still the main attraction. She's a little dirty right now, spilled a lit candle all over the front. Needs a good detailing, but she still shines. So here is what I'm working with:

Dolphinbar for Wii emulation

2x Wii MotionPlus Remotes with Nunchucks

1x Classic Pro Wii Controller

2x Wii Zappers/steering wheels

2x Playstation style controllers

2x Gamecube style controllers

2x N64 controllers

1x Keyboard and Mouse

1x Sinden lightgun

Custom light-up marquee

Custom riser

Bike pegs on riser are footrests

Upgraded hardware (I add nice bolts and put colored washers on all exposed hardware)

Led light strip fir that baby blue light up effect lol

And then finally the important stuff...

I have a 6TB HDD running Batocera

65 consoles/computers represented and well over 120,000 individual games

Computer is a Beelink Ser5 with the Ryzen 5500u

I do have a question for the community if you were patient enough to read this far:

Everything works like a dream on this thing. The Wii works so well it's insane. The only issue I have is with Nintendo 3DS. A lot of games won't work. Some do. Resident Evil Revelations works perfectly. Just played it for like 10hrs this month. So my question is do you think the 3DS games not working is the computer not being powerful enough? Or do you think I need an SSD to run 3DS well?

TMNT Mod

Just finished this TMNT mod. Never did a 4 player. All the extra buttons left me with a bit of a gap in the machine so I decided to put in a pull out keyboard drawer. Very happy with how it came out. I need to fix the light-up marquee though. It's homemade and I git a little lazy with it. Lol.
