Thank you for your photos

My boy died two years ago and I haven’t been ready to get another one yet, but I come here all the time to see all of your schnauzers and their adventures (whether big adventures like hiking or medium ones like sleeping in a funny position or small ones like just looking cute). So not to get corny on you all, but thank you for posting your photos and please keep them coming, I love seeing all of your schnauzers.

Did anyone spend surgery night alone?

I am having a deep plane face and neck with IV/twilight sedation. The instructions from the doctors office say that someone should spend the night with you the day of your surgery. For various that is not possible for me.

I know it’s ideal to have someone there, and I am not looking for suggestions about alternatives thank you anyway. I’m looking to see if there’s anybody who did it alone and made it through just fine. I had a temporal brow lift a few years ago with the same type of sedation. I had a friend drive me home and stay with me a couple of hours to make sure everything was OK, which is what I’m planning this time, but then they left and I was totally fine. (Same with a colonoscopy.) For what it’s worth, the American Society of Anesthesiologists states that with this type of sedation you “should probably have someone stay with you for at least the first several hours after you return home” so even they don’t seem to think that it’s necessary to have someone with you overnight. https://madeforthismoment.asahq.org/preparing-for-surgery/recovery/

Anyone else get through the first night alone, and could you share your experiences? Thank you.

Is 19 days enough recovery time for a facelift?

UGH due to various issues, the only surgery date availability that will work with my schedule will give me a recovery time of 19 days (not including surgery day). I am having a deep plane face and neck lift and facial fat transfer.

I‘m changing jobs so there are various reason why I really want to try to make this time period work, including 1) I’m unlikely to get this much time off again in the near future and 2) no one at this job knows me (though it’s with the same company so I will still see people I know every day).

I know everyone heals differently I’m just trying to get a general gut reaction on whether that gives me enough time, especially those of you who’ve had it. I am not allowed to work remotely so that’s not an option. Appreciate any input.

Service Credit toward Probationary/Trial Period

I’m looking for input from HR experts or people who have had personal experience with this issue.

I am in negotiation to start a new excepted service position. The Trump administration changed the rules to require a two-year probationary period for excepted service instead of one.

I previously served in exactly the same position with the same agency and have no break in service, but I guess unfortunately for me I was in that position for one year and 11 months. I read 5 CFR 11.4 (“counts toward”) to mean that that service can count toward that probationary period in a pro rated manner (that is, if I did a year and a half in that previous position, I would have to do six more months on probation), but HR is reading it to mean all or nothing - that is, if I previously served one year and 364 days in the position, I have to start again from the beginning, none of that counts. I don’t trust my HR so I’m wondering if anyone has a definitive answer on this?

5 CFR 11.4 Crediting service.

(a) Prior Federal civilian service (including nonappropriated fund service) counts toward completion of a probationary or trial period, as applicable, when the prior service:

(1) Is in the same agency, e.g., Department of the Army;

(2) Is in the same line of work, as determined by the employee's actual duties and responsibilities; and

(3) Contains or is followed by no more than a single break in service that does not exceed 30 calendar days.

Pain persists after root canal

I do not drink or smoke, no other medical conditions. 50 y/o F.

Tooth 14 had an existing crown and root canal. I was not having any problems with it, but on the x-ray last year the dentist said he noticed some shadowing and asked me if I was having problems. I wasn’t so he left it alone. About two weeks ago I started experiencing a problem with that tooth, or at least what feels like that tooth. I was experiencing a constant dull ache with intermittent jolts of pain. Pain was about 6/10, so not in agony, but not the kind of pain you could ignore or live with. I did not have any hot or cold sensitivity, it did not hurt when I would bite down, and the dentist tapped on it with some type of instrument and that also did not hurt. He mentioned that that was strange but said the suspicious old root canal was the “low hanging fruit” so we would take care of that.

He referred me to the endodontist who DS a root canal retreat the next dayand put in a temporary filling. A couple days later, my dentist put in a permanent filling.

The endodontist put me on amoxicillin for about a week as well as 600 mg of ibuprofen, which I took religiously. I didn’t notice any pain in the days after the root canal, but I’m not sure if that was just the ibuprofen which I was taking religiously every six hours. This was all 10 days ago. About three or four days ago I started feeling the pain again, exactly the same as it was before I got the root canal treatment.

I would appreciate any thoughts on what could be causing this before I go back to the dentist. I’d like to be a little bit educated so I know what to ask. The whole ordeal cost me about $1500 out-of-pocket, and that’s *with* insurance, so I’m pretty distressed that it hasn’t been resolved

Switch to Excepted Service - Any Pitfalls?

I have 20+ years in the civil service. I was recently offered an excepted service job at higher grade. From what I understand excepted service employees still have most if not all of the MSPB protections (such as they are these days), but anything else I should consider that I’m not thinking about before I accept? I don’t plan to change jobs again after this (inshallah).

Facelift Consult Despite Filler and Botox?

Hi all- I know one should wait till it wears off before going for a consult and that was my plan. But I am going to unexpectedly get about a month off from work around July or August and also change jobs and go to a new office (with new people who won’t notice the change) so I’d like to go have my consult now so I can ideally schedule the surgery during that downtime. Am I wasting my and the doctor’s time doing it now?

I have a small amount of filler in my cheeks (my dermatologist is very conservative) and Botox in my chin, forehead, and crows feet. I got it about 30 days ago.
