Any fellow 3D printing nerds here? What have you made for your Miata?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been getting super into 3D printing lately and realized it’s basically a superpower for filling in the blanks on our cars. I’ve been cooking up a few things for mine and wanted to see what kind of custom stuff you all have printed!

Are any of you guys designing or printing your own interior mods, fixes, or fun little accessories? Drop some pictures or ideas of what you've made, I'd love to see them!

Be honest: Do yall put premium gas in your miatas?

Are we strictly treating our cars to the top-shelf 91/93, or are you running regular and letting the knock sensors do the heavy lifting?

No judgment, just want a quick temperature check on what everyone feeds their daily.

I know NA/NB takes regular so you guys can forget about it

Anyone else go for late-night drives just for the hell of it?

There is something completely therapeutic about dropping the top at midnight, finding some empty roads, and just driving. No traffic, no scorching daytime heat, just the sound of the engine and the cool night air.

I found myself doing a random hour-long loop last night with absolutely no destination in mind, and it honestly reminded me why I bought this car in the first place.

Does anyone else find themselves doing this just to clear their head and enjoy the drive? What’s your go-to night driving routine?

so…I bought an Automatic (hear me out)

Go ahead, bring out the pitchforks.

I’m a dentist. I spend 8 hours a day hunched over patients, constantly stomping down on a rheostat foot pedal. By the time I clock out, my right leg is completely shot and my joints are screaming.

I wanted a fun, lightweight weekend cruiser to unwind, but the absolute last thing my body needs on the drive home is modulating a clutch in stop-and-go traffic.

So I bought an automatic.

and i do most driving with paddle shifters

An auto Miata is still a Miata, and my physical therapist thanks me. Roast me if you must, but I know this is what i need... 🦷🏎️

Anyone else genuinely shocked the plastics/electrics under the NC Miata hood don't just melt?!

Holy crap, I knew engine bays got hot, but the NC is on another level. After a normal spiritied drive, I popped the hood and the sheer radiant heat felt like opening a 450-degree oven.

It honestly blows my mind how all the electrical wiring, plastic clips, and fluid reservoirs don't just turn into a puddle of goo over time. Like, how does that cheap-feeling plastic expansion tank survive a Texas summer plus engine heat?!

Anyone else get hit by that wall of heat and just marvel at automotive engineering, or is it just me?

I have become the Sleepy Hollow

The story comes from Washington Irving's classic 1820 short tale, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." In it, the Headless Horseman is said to be the ghost of a Hessian soldier who lost his head to a stray cannonball during the American Revolutionary War. He rides a powerful black horse at night, carrying a glowing jack-o'-lantern (or sometimes his actual severed head), searching for his lost head.

There is a specific kind of magic that only happens after midnight. The traffic clears, the tarmac cools, and the world goes completely quiet—except for the mechanical hum of an NC.

Top down. Crisp night air filling the cabin. The dash lights glowing amber, casting just enough light to see the next apex.

People love to joke about the NC being a boat, but out here on a winding backroad under the streetlights? It feels like a scalpel. Every downshift echoes off the empty guardrails, and the hydraulic steering tells your hands exactly what the tires are doing. You aren't rushing anywhere; you’re just running through the gears for the pure,
unadulterated joy of it.

No traffic. No distractions. Just you, a flawless gearbox, and the open road.
If you haven't taken your NC out for a late-night therapeutic cruise lately, this is your sign to grab your keys.

The "while I'm in here" curse is real...

Every single time. I started this job just wanting to replace one simple thing, and now half my engine bay is sitting on the garage floor.

Once you pull the expansion tank out, you look at the thermostat housing and think, “Well, it’s right there, might as well.” Then you see the water pump. Then you look at the belts and pulleys. Next thing you know, you’re knee-deep in a full cooling system overhaul and scrubbing a decade of road grime off the frame rails.

Please tell me someone else's "quick weekend project" escalated exactly like this

Shop quotes $300 labor for a radiator replacement. DIY or send it?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on what you would do here.

I have 2006 NC miata with failing radiator. (coolant leaks)

My new radiator just arrived yesterday. I called a local auto shop, and they quoted me $300 for the labor alone to swap it out.

Now I'm torn between just paying the shop or tackling it myself. For those who have done it on the NC, is it worth the DIY effort to save the $300, or is it enough of a headache that I should just hand over the keys?

What would you do?

Wow these costs can add up very quickly…

In short, two months ago in April, I purchased a 2006 NC with 85,000 miles for $4,700.

Since then, I’ve spent approximately $4,000 on the car, including maintenance, registration, and taxes.

Two months after the purchase, my total expenditure on the car has reached $8,700… almost double the price of the car…

anyone feel like this too? hope im not alone in this…

Is Fab9 still having communication/wait time issues?

Hey everyone, I’m looking at getting the N1 tune for my NC, but I’ve seen a lot of older posts about Fab9 taking weeks to send out files or reply to emails.

Has their turnaround time improved lately, or are people still waiting a long time? Trying to decide if I should go with them or just pay the premium for Xero-Limit. Thanks!

Ive been recommended these two tires for my 2006 nc miata. im a complete newby without much knowledge.. anyone could help?

not much exp with tires… on my previous cars, just went with whatever the costco guy recommended… but this time i heard tires matter alot for these lightweight miatas.. located in Houston Tx

prefer costco bc of lifetime tire rotation and warranty. thank you!
