Thoughts on the Factor Monza

Hi, today I went to the Factor dealer and checked the Monza, I instantly loved it, the fork, the handlebar too, I want to use my XPLR Red that I have in my gravel bike and also put my Zipp 454 NSW wheels.

Any advices?.

I’m thinking to put 34mm GP5000 tires and a 48T chainring for start, we have hilly roads here, not sure if 50T would be good, and I’m getting a 56/L frame.
I’m between this build and a BMC Teammachine R01 with Force E1 and the ICS handlebar, using my wheels.

Help me choose between the BMC Teammachine R01 and Cervélo S5

For almost three months now, I’ve been looking for a new road bike.

For the past year, I’ve been riding a Wilier Rave SLR iD2 gravel bike with SRAM Red XPLR. Unfortunately, I’ve barely done any gravel riding because most of the people I ride with are on road bikes. So lately I’ve really been missing having a proper road bike. The riding experience just feels different on a gravel bike.

I’m 1.82 m tall, around 90 kg, and so far I’ve always ridden size L/56 bikes.

Over the past few months, I’ve been looking at three main options:

Trek Madone SL7 Gen 8 — with the possibility of adding the integrated handlebar and aero bottles.

BMC Teammachine R01 Three — SRAM Force E1, using my own Zipp 454 NSW wheels.

Cervélo S5 2026 Five Black — the complete bike as it comes from the factory.

Over the last month, I’ve been leaning more and more toward the BMC and Cervelo. The limited customization options with the Trek have slowly made me move away from the Madone.

BMC Teammachine R01
I really like the frame. I think it’s an amazing-looking bike, and the fact that the local dealer offers good after-sales support is also a big plus.
Considering my build and the type of riding I normally do — a mix of flat roads and mountain climbs — I think the Teammachine R01 would suit me really well.

The BMC option is also quite interesting financially because I would only be buying the frame and groupset. I would use my own Zipp 454 NSW wheels.

The dealer has also offered to let me choose the crank length and handlebar I want, plus discounts on future purchases.

My biggest concern with the BMC is how old the current R01 platform is.

It has been on the market for almost three years now, and with how quickly the bike industry is moving, I’m a little worried about buying it now and then seeing a new version released within the next year — or even sooner.

They have offered me a 25% discount on my next frame if a new version is released, which definitely makes the decision easier. But I’m still wondering whether it makes sense to buy a platform that is already approaching three years old.

Cervélo S5 Five Black
The S5 is a bike I’ve wanted ever since I first saw it.
But there are a few things that make me hesitate.
The first one is that my current fitness isn’t particularly high, so I’m not sure how much I would actually get out of the S5 right now.

I’m also wondering whether the geometry could be too demanding for me. I don’t want to buy a bike that looks amazing but ends up being uncomfortable or difficult to adapt to, especially if I’m getting back into training.
The Cervélo is around $2,000 more expensive than the BMC, although there’s an important difference: the S5 comes as a complete bike, including the Reserve 57/64 wheels with DT Swiss 240 hubs.

So part of the price difference is justified by the fact that I’m getting the complete package.

One important thing: I’m not choosing a bike because it’s the fastest, the most agile, or because it’s raced in the WorldTour.

Honestly, I choose a bike because I like the way it looks, the shape of the frame and its geometry. I’ve always had a strong preference for the look of aero bikes 😅.
Of course, I still want to make a sensible decision. I need something that I’ll enjoy riding and that I can keep for several years without constantly feeling like I should have bought something else.

I’m just a 37-year-old guy who enjoys sports and wants to get back into training and enjoying cycling again — riding, exploring different places, getting stronger, and having fun on the bike.
I love speed, but one of my favorite things about cycling is that feeling you get when you’re flying down a mountain descent after a long climb.

So, if you were in my position, which one would you choose: the BMC Teammachine R01 or the Cervélo S5?
And more importantly, do you think I should be worried about the R01 being almost three years old, or is that something I’m overthinking?

I know this turned into a pretty long post 😂, but if you made it this far, thanks a lot for taking the time to read it.
I’d really appreciate hearing your opinions, experiences and recommendations.

Thanks in advance!
