In 2026, a Brahmin man was killed in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh would the reaction be different if the caste were changed?

In 2026, this is how a Brahmin man was killed in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

He has now died. If this was driven by caste hatred, it deserves to be condemned unequivocally.

Now switch the caste and imagine the reaction. Would our fellow Indians respond with the same silence?

Was BHU Land Really Donated by a “Musahar Brahmin”? Looking at the Evidence

A false narrative is being spread that the land on which BHU was established was donated by a “Musahar Brahmin.” The claim is misleading. The available documents show that Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya purchased the land for BHU for ₹6 lakh. Documentary evidence exists, and there is also an interview discussing this matter.

Another story claims that Malaviya Ji acquired 1,300 acres simply by walking around for a few hours. Think about it—how could someone realistically measure or cover 1,300 acres on foot within just a few hours?

Inside Darbhanga Raj’s Legendary Jewellery Collection: The ₹90-Lakh Naulakha Haar of Peshwa Bajirao

The story of the Darbhanga Raj jewellery collection is closely connected with some of the most famous royal jewels of the Indian subcontinent.

One of the most notable pieces was the Naulakha Haar of Peshwa Bajirao. According to the historical account, the necklace was originally made for around ₹9 lakh, an enormous amount for its time. As the generations of Peshwas passed, successive rulers continued adding precious stones and jewels to the necklace. By the early 20th century, its estimated value had reportedly reached around ₹90 lakh.

The necklace eventually came into the possession of the Rana family of Nepal. Maharajadhiraj Kameshwar Singh Bahadur of Darbhanga Raj, one of the wealthiest Indian princes of his time, later acquired it from the Ranas.

The Darbhanga rulers also obtained two particularly famous pieces associated with the Peshwas.

The first was the ‘Shiromani’, a remarkable single emerald reportedly around three inches long. Nana Saheb Peshwa had mounted this large emerald as a seal. The second was the celebrated ‘Peshwa Diamond’.

But the Darbhanga jewellery collection was much larger than these pieces.

A handwritten Darbhanga jewellery inventory from the 1930s records an extraordinary collection of royal jewels. Among the items mentioned are a rare pink diamond, a necklace associated with Emperor Jahangir, and jewels from Cooch Behar. The inventory gives an idea of just how extensive and valuable the private jewellery collection of the Darbhanga royal family was.

Another famous piece connected with Maharaja Kameshwar Singh is the ‘Great Moghul Emerald’. In photographs, Maharaja Kameshwar Singh can be seen wearing the enormous emerald prominently beside the handle of his sword.

What makes the Darbhanga collection particularly fascinating is that these jewels came from different royal traditions and periods — the Peshwas, Mughal court, Nepalese Rana family and other Indian princely states — eventually becoming part of one of the great private royal jewellery collections of pre-independence India.

The surviving photographs and old jewellery inventories therefore provide a rare glimpse into the extraordinary wealth and history of the Darbhanga Raj.
