Searching for colleges for POST 9-11 Bill

I joined the army when i was homeless last year. joined as 25U simply because it was the only one that would get me out sooner. The plan was simple: Go to college as soon as I get to my first duty, get my BA while there and extend if need be. Whether I do a second contract was up in the air at the time.

Well, I started college and ended up getting deployed after 3 weeks, so i had to withdraw. So now I plan on switching to 46V during my second contract and try again with school. 46V because im interested in video editing and 3d animation. 3D anime is what I plan on getting my BA in. Once I get out, Ill use my benefits for video production.

The problem is, obviously, I have no place to go. When I get out, I want to be in a state, i plan on living for several years and buying a home with VA benefits. According to another post, I would have 48 months total for my education benefits, then some state have additional benefits I can use afterwards. I was planning on using Post 9-11 benefits and pocketing the BAH towards savings. But I want to maximize it. The obvious choice would be to go to a states with higher cost of living. But I fill like that would backfire. Colleges that are geared toward learning art are expensive as well.

So I really don't know how to go about finding a college and place to live. Ideally, I would like to go to a state with good benefits like no state income. But colleges where I can maximize my benifits is also important. Then I was have to determine if I should live on campus, or rent out a place which would eat into BAH.

ETA's Digital Video Editor Certificate

So I'm in the army looking for promotion points. Those points can come from certificates. And it so happens there's one for Digital Video Editor. I know I don't need a certificate for one, but i am passionate about video editing and it seems like easy points as I am quite familiar with some editing on Davinci.

This is everything that would be covered on the exam. I was trying to find a practice test to see how much I know and what I would need to study, but I could find any. Also tried to find any official training videos that might help, but nothing perse. So I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding the test or could recommend any videos that would help me cover these topics.

Debating on transitioning to Air Force from the Army

I am currently a 25U in the Army. I joined bc I was homeless and needed a quick escape. My contract is up in 2028 and not sure how to proceed. Since I enlisted, I wanted to do 46V, but that wasn’t available. So i just chose 25U as it had the quickest ship date.

I still want to do 46V as im interested in animation and video editing. However I discovered that the Air Force has 3N0x6.

I tried going to school for animation but i was sent to deploy and had to withdraw. So now im just gonna focus on my Comptia certs.

The reason im considering AF is mainly due to PT. I would change my MOS but just the thought of doing PT every day and the test 2x a year makes me not want to reenlist. Nor do i feel like ill be ready for the civilian life once im done.

If GenAI is accurate, PT is less strenuous and i believe i have a better chance at the test. I failed a couple time in basic and ait and at my first duty. Im not excited for the next test coming up. I thought i would be used to it now after a year, but i do still hate it.

So what I want to know is basically the pros and cons of transitioning. What army benefits do i keep, if any? Ill my rank stay the same? Do i get to choose my duty station? I heard that the Air Force picks your job. Is that true if im prior service? If i do get 3N0x6, i do choose if i work with multimedia, or is it just based on needs at my duty station? Is there anything else i should be aware of before making this decision?

I will be completing my army contract in about 1.5 years.

For those were homeless when you enlisted, how did you find a place to live when you got out?

I joined bc i was homeless with no college education. So i figured it was the best option for me. The original plan was to do a minimum of 2 contracts and complete my education. In the meantime, do research on the best place to live when i get out. But now, im really considering going back to my home state. I had a job there that i liked and really miss everyone there. Depending on how things work out, i would take that job back on a part time bases.

Currently im a 25U in my second year. Im thinking of switching to 46V or 42A during my second contract. Thanks to this war, i have to postpone my college education. In the meantime, i plan to get A+ at a minimum before I reenlist.

The issue is, i dont want to waste anytime or resources on finding a place to live when i get out. I want to plan ahead to get a better idea of my future.

Is it true that you get new leave in October?

At the beginning pf the year, I was planning on take hbl back to the states. I whole 2 weeks. I mention to my ssg that i also wanted to a 3 days trip with boss to france and a skydiving. And additionally 7 days.

He said that in Oct for the new fiscal year you get new leave of 90 days (i think he said 90). I wanted to verify this before I put in all my leave.

Also what happens if you put in leave then get deployed.
