18mo doesn’t go to sleep til 8:30/9. I have no time to myself all day

I’m sitting here crying nursing my toddler to sleep. he has always been low sleep needs, and recently started taking very long naps at this daycare.

since he doesn’t get up til 2/2:30, this has pushed bedtime back a ton. he’s typically great about signaling when he’s tired. we do the same routine every night. dinner, walk, bath, quiet play, story, nurse.

generally he falls asleep quick enough that I have 20 minutes to sit on the couch and look at my phone. today was especially hard.

he woke up at 5, we struggled through a grumpy morning before drop off at 8.

i worked from 8:15-5, we picked him up . He was so full of energy but we stayed consistent, nursing to sleep by 7;30. It’s now 9 and he just went down. I’m not sure u even ate dinner, and I feel like my night is over and j need to get ready for work again, and hell be up at least 3 times tonight

I resent work for making me rush my time with him. I wish he was the only thing I had to think about tomorrow.

Have an opportunity to switch to contract role- terrified

hi! I have been working in CS/CX automation, bot management, self service support strategy for about 7 years.

I became a mom, and the corporate landscape has become increasingly unbearable, and I have been very curious about 1099 work.

the role is a 6 month leave cover, aligns perfectly with my experience. but now that the opportunity is here, I’m so scared to make the leap.

my spouse has a full time roll so we would not lose healthcare. pay after taxes is nearly identical to what I make now. hours would give me a four day work week.

my biggest fear is not having something lined up at the end of the 6 months. I’ve never done contract work before, don’t have a client list or linked in following. I know there’s a possibility of extension or reassignment but nothing is guaranteed.

what would you do?

Experience with contract work?

hi! I have been back to work as a first time mom for about a year in a very corporate role.

long story short, I have been miserable. between bad leadership and culture and just missing time with my one year old it’s been a rough year and I still fantasize about quitting.

I am the breadwinner and get amazing benefits at this job so it hasn’t been realistic.

I may have a. offer to leave for a contract position. after taxes it looks like my take home pay would be almost equal to my current role. has anyone made the jump to contract based work and not regretted it?

its a 6 month role that would allow me to work 4 days or less a week, my experience aligns very very closely with it. my husbands company could offer us benefits in place of my current coverage. but it’s very scary to think what happens after this 6 months.

i kind of stumbled into this and have no idea how I would go about finding the next thing

15mo coming home with tiny bruises under arms, no incident report

hi! our boy has been in daycsre for about a month now. we love our facility and he is adjusting well to his class and teacher. this place has no negative reviews, so I am trying not to freak myself out here

that said, twice in the past week he’s come home with tiny red finger print looking bruises around his underarms. like 3 or 4 tiny marks under each arm. they look like pressure points maybe from being picked up too quickly?

we brought it up to his day time teacher, and she claims to not know anything about them. we feel like it’s happening in his afternoon class, they combine a couple rooms after 4pm. he is with those teachers a short time, but the marks look red and fresh when we pick him up.

they are so small, and he isn’t flinching or acting different. he has very sensitive skin and can bruise easy, so I am trying to assume positive intent. but they don’t happen when we pick him up.

shojld I bring this up to someone higher up? am I being silly? what are these from?

Biggest corporate ick this week: acting like this is a warzone

the corporate jargon is of course always yucky but the terms getting thrown around this week have me dying.

”mission critical”

”in the war room”

(I work in customer service)

my other favorite I’ve heard is “postMortem” in reference to a minor CS related set back. it truly feels like I am larping

Using so much sick time from daycare illness- crazy guilt

my son started daycsre after being home with a nanny while I wfh for the past year. nanny was just too expensive. its been 3 weeks and illness is rocking our home. he got sick 6 days in, and was down for 4 days. then I got and was sick for a straight week, missed like 3 days of work.

i havent even recovered from the first illness and came down with a fever and chills last night. baby is luckily fine but I’m going to have to call out again. I have an unlimited PTO policy. but I still am riddled with guilt on how often I’ve been away the past two weeks. I feel like it looks unprofessional

but there’s no way I can work through this.

New rage/anxiety/depression 15months postpartum

hi there,

I’m a new mom 15 months PP with my first. I had some anxiety in the newborn phase and temporarily went on Zoloft for it. now, I’m back to work full time for The past year and baby is in daycare after a long time home with a nanny while I worked.

since birth he has been EBF.
since starting daycare 2 weeks ago, he is not nursing during the day obviously. at first I was pumping, but he started eating at school and wasnt taking bottles so i just kind of stopped.

I think the drop of so many feeds may be really messing with my hormones. I am snappy and inpatient. extra tired. I feel so mean to my husband it makes me sad. is this normal at this stage??

Sick 14mo can’t nurse without gagging (just a cold)

my 14mo started daycare a week and a half ago and already has his first virus. it’s his first time sick ever. it’s just upper head cold, fever, stuffy.

the past two days, he’s been kind of gaggling when he nurses. it wasn’t too bad the first day, but today, the moment he latches he gags and hops off. he will keep tryinf but it gets worse so I eventually take it away or he loses interest. he nursed okay around lunch, but hasn’t nursed or really wanted to eat anything since then.

we are keeping his fever down with tylenol, and offering water and broth but not much luck. we also are using saline spray and a nose Frida to try and clear him, but I think it’s the stuffiness causing the musing issues? anyone deal with anything like this when their baby was sick?

Started daycare and baby is already sick 1 week in. Do I use PTO?

we were wfh with a nanny for the past year, and just finally caved and started daycare at 14 months. (second mortgage in childcare was getting unsustainable

I thought my days of last minute nanny call outs and working with baby home were behind me. I have a meeting heavy job and those days were always very stressful.

but it seems like the illness will be constant the first year of daycare. I’m just dreading tomorrow with him home and sick. i dont want to call a sitter because he’s sick and that seems wrong to expose someone else.

i don’t want to have to call out sick a ton but working with him is so so hard now that he’s mobile and busy. idk if I need advice or just looking to hear how others navigated this

Baby daytime weaned at daycare, but nursing all night - 14months

my boy started daycare about 2 weeks ago. I sent him with a bottle for the first couple days, but he wasnt drinking it so I stopped this last week.

hes supposedly been eating at school- breakfast, lunch, snacks. but when he gets home after work, he nurses for like 30 minutes straight.

we still nurse to sleep before bed, and he’s having split nights where he’s up for like an hour around 2/3 nursing on and off. he also nurses like 3x before drop off from 6-8am. we offer him breakfast at home daily, which he eats some of.

we are so tired lol. is this expected, will he eventually naturally drop the night feeds and fully wean or do I have to change my behavior overnight? honestly, ive always nursed to sleep and its just been the easiest way.

How fast did your baby adjust to daycare? 14mo

our 14 month old is starting daycare next week after being home with a nanny full time since 4 months old.

mainly financial reasons. we are paying nearly two mortgages in childcare alone.

baby is very much in full separation anxiety , and is also EBF So we will be starting weaning along with this transition.

i anticipate the first day-week to be pretty awful for all of us, but looking for positive stories to help me nerves

Corporate America - I can’t do it in anymore

I am 13 months postpartum as a FTM. I have been back to work since baby was 4 months old. I started back in a completely new role, which I completely regret.

my motivation has completely disappeared. the false urgency and shifting priorities makes me feel dizzy, and I simply do not care. I do my job, but I am no where near as productive as I used to be. we are paying a second mortgage in childcare to have a nanny while I WFH.

i constantly fantasize about taking a paycut and getting baby into a daycare program- it would cut our childcare costs in half.

My pay rate and benefits package makes me the breadwinner in our home, so I feel a bit shackled.

for those that left their corporate roles, do you regret it?

▲ 34 r/barista

just started a mobile coffee business. we are self taught baristas but know how to dial in and pull a shot.

an hour in we were pulling heavier volume and fhe temperature had changed outside, so the shots started pulling a bit fast.

our recipient from our roaster is 20g in, 43 out in 24-29s. I served a shot that was closer to 50 out before taking a break to dial in again.

i don’t think the customer knew, but feel like i could see. this being common during rushes. what’s the worst shot you’ve ever served?
