similar length hair, drastically different look

I never took proper care of my hair up until 6 months ago. Didn’t know what products to use, had no idea what pattern my hair was because I would towel dry my head aggressively and assumed I just had some loose waves that sometimes look okay but never really looked bodied.

I’ve since changed my routine and have focused on delicacy, hydration, and protection. I have started sleeping on a silk pillowcase, and I shampoo fairly regularly, every two days usually.

The routine that brought life to my mediocre hair:

Olaplex no. 4 & 5 curl shampoo and conditioner
Olaplex no.6 bond styling cream
olaplex curl defining gel
olaplex bonding oil

I ensure my hair is basically soaking wet, I then scrunch no. 6 into my hair upside down for about a minute, making sure it’s evenly spread. Then I’ll take about two quarter-sized amounts of the curl gel and focus it more towards the ends, making sure the curls clump together instead of separating too early before drying.

Once the hair has completely dried (I air dry) I then work about 4 droplets of the oil into my palms and scrunch that into the soft cast. It completely breaks away and leaves soft bouncy curls that have enhanced definition.

I honestly believe that most of the change just comes from the right kind of hydration my hair likes while not weighing my hair down. I don’t think expensive products are necessary to get a desired look, but I love these products for myself and haven’t found any real dupes yet.

Milky Way visible from Newfoundland

Captured on the iPhone 16 pro max using long exposure. Through the clouds, you can see the faint glow of dense clusters of stars along the edge of the Milky Way. There’s a subtle glow to this section of the sky. I used different exposures and brilliance to bring out different details of the sky.

Captured near Baine Harbour, Newfoundland. Approximate Bortle value of 2.6-2.7.

the difference a hairstylist and hydrating products make

idk what I was thinking a couple years ago rocking that haircut, didn’t really take care of my curl pattern (didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to use thinning shears on my loose curls) they would become frizzy, unruly, and unravel.

Routine:

Silicone scalp scrubber
Olaplex no.4 & 5 CURL shampoo and conditioner
Olaplex no. 6
Olaplex no. 7
Olaplex no. 10 (gel)
Nizoral once every week or two
I work no.6 through hair soaking wet hair fresh from shower. Scrunch with bare hands. Sometimes I use no.10, sometimes I don’t. Usually for dates I’ll use the gel, let it dry, and scrunch out the soft cast with the oil. I dont even know with frizz is anymore, and my hair is FINE, and very dense. It just loves to soak up hydration, so keep that in mind! My curls might not like what your curls like.

If you have asymmetric brows, laminate

I turned my eyebrows from siblings into twins. Find you a good brow artist near u and let them work their magic. You can style your eyebrow hairs to your exact liking. I wish I knew this was a thing sooner

An Interesting Coloured Red Fox

This cute fox was visiting us frequently in the winter. In the summertime, sometimes they are seen sleeping in long grass in the same area. This one was bold. It would sit on the rails of the back patio

A colourful cannabis plant

The only phenotype of the strain to really show itself off. I’ve seen a lot of weed plants, but none this gorgeous.

Dutasteride made my hair curlier

I’m assuming since my hair follicles aren’t being damaged by DHT anymore that they’re really able to take better shape through the cortex, enhancing my curl pattern. I’ll never complain about a bad hair day again! I didn’t even know this was a possibility.

Hydration is a game changer.

For years I’ve assumed my hair is wavy. I knew my hair had a pattern, it wasn’t straight, but it definitely didn’t appear curly. Since I’ve started taking better care of my hair and emphasizing hydration, my pattern has come to life!

Routine:

Olaplex no. 4 curl & no. 5 curl shampoo and conditioner
Olaplex no. 6 styling cream & olaplex no. 7 bonding oil
I air dry my hair

Nizoral once a week, silicone scalp scrubber

And last but not least, a silk pillowcase.

My mom and sisters always had beautiful curls, though most of them don’t embrace it, so I will

Hair progression: Oct.- Now

I’ve never realized the full potential of my hairs pattern until I started taking much better care of it. I’ve always had very dense, thick hair, and I always knew it had some sort of pattern as certain days it would look curlier than others, but I’ve really nailed down my routine now.

I shampoo with nizoral once a week or so. It’s drying, so I like to mix a bit of cerave hydrating facial cleanser with it. It works wonders. For conditioner, im currently using the shea moisture manuka + honey. I have olaplex shampoo and conditioner ordered, but have yet to receive/try it.

For styling, all I use to get my results is the olaplex no.6 and no. 7. I put it in my hair before going to sleep, and wake up with frizz free hair.

The only other change I’ve made is sleeping on a genuine silk pillowcase. It was worth the investment.

I’m told by some that my hair is wavy (albeit tight waves) and others that it’s definitely curly. I’m curious where I land…

My routine:

I currently use olaplex no.6 & 7, waiting to receive their new no.4 and 5 curl shampoo + conditioner. I also have their no. 10 gel but haven’t tried it enough yet to tell if I like it.

I usually always air dry my hair, and I invested in a real silk pillowcase, 22 momme mulberry silk from mulberry park silks. My hair looks much better in the mornings now vs when I slept on cotton.

Looking forward to some feedback/questions!
