Divorced over 50, dealing with a toxic ex, kids' issues, and depression. Does life ever get better?

I am a man over 50 going through a painful divorce, and I feel completely overwhelmed. It feels like my life is over.On top of the financial strain of child support (Nafaqah) and constant worries about my kids' well-being and their love for me, my ex-wife is making things a living hell. She was toxic during the marriage, and even after the divorce, her only goal seems to be ruining my reputation and hurting me in every way possible.Because of all this constant stress, I am falling into deep depression. I have started neglecting my health, my appearance, and my daily life. I feel stuck in a dark place and don't know how to pull myself out.For men who went through this after 50: How did you handle a toxic ex? How did you protect your mental health and rebuild your life from scratch? I really need some guidance.

Do people around the world face the same marriage and divorce struggles as we do in Morocco?

Hello everyone,

I am writing this to share my story and to see if men worldwide suffer from the same marriage and divorce issues that we experience here in Morocco.

I am a teacher. I met my ex-wife during a professional trip for teachers. That same evening, she texted me and confessed her love. Everything moved so fast, and we got married just one month later.

Soon after, I realized she was extremely materialistic. Her main goal seemed to be stripping me of all my money and savings. After we had two children together, her behavior worsened. She started demanding a divorce, constantly provoking me with the toxic phrase: "If you are a real man, divorce me."

Under immense psychological pressure, I had no choice but to divorce her.

The aftermath has been devastating. Because of the local family laws, she took a massive amount of my money, and I am now paying heavy child support. Despite getting what she wanted, she continues to pursue me legally and, worst of all, she is completely blocking me from seeing my two children.

I feel emotionally drained and financially ruined. Is this gold-digging and manipulative behavior common in your countries too? How do you deal with the legal system favoring the mother even when she destroys the family?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and advice.

Looking for language exchange buddies! (Native Arabic/Darija speaker)

Hi everyone!

I am a native Arabic speaker from Morocco. I am looking for friends who are learning Arabic so we can chat and practice together.

I speak Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) and Moroccan Darija, as well as fluent French and intermediate English.

I want to practice and improve my English through casual daily conversations. In return, we can chat in Arabic (Fusha or Darija) to help you practice too.

If you want to be chat buddies, please leave a comment or send me a DM! 😊
