Why is Gambling so glorified nowadays?

At least in my experience, everyone just like casually gambles and no one gives af. Like, at least with drugs it's frowned upon a bit; people almost hype up others when gambling. It's so confusing. Like, yes lets go waste our money and damage our relationship with money as a whole just for some laughs? Makes it 10 x harder to quit when you are almost frowned upon for not gambling Lol.

I think Gambling is worse than Drugs

I think gambling might be worse than drugs, because some people will gamble with the intention to improve their life you know what I mean? But if you do drugs you just don’t really care and probably are just looking for a high. There’s definitely people that gamble with that same mentality but there is more nuance to gambling motivation I feel.

Im Grateful That I Was A Gambling Addict

When I was 19 years old, I had a realisation. I was completely a slave to my own desires; my gambling and corn addiction were out of control, and I was still trying to feed myself the lie that I was working because I was "not like everyone else in this generation". For some context, I've always wanted to make money and get myself ahead on the premise that I was doing it for myself. I sacrificed my hobbies, my social life, even my relationship with my parents, just because I wanted to be successful. After 2-3 years of "hustling", I still wasn't seeing the results I craved, even after the 70- 80-hour work weeks I was putting in since I was 16. It was complete delusion; by all financial metrics, I was in the top 1% of earners my age, but I didn't think it was enough because I didn't have enough to be like those people you are shown on your algorithm all day. I was comparing myself to them, so I was never happy with what I had. Because I didn't feel like I was being rewarded enough for the work I was putting in, I decided that I was going to try and find my own edge in the gambling scene. And for a while I thought I did; at one point, I was up over 60k in a single month, and even then I still didn't feel like I was doing enough. And as all gambling stories end up, I ended up losing, big time. At a peak of 80k in profit in about 3 months, in the next 3 months I managed to wipe out 138k of savings that I had worked 3 years relentlessly to accumulate. All of that was wiped out because I was too greedy and was getting fed up with the process. That was truly the lowest point of my life; I sacrificed my childhood to become successful, and I wiped out all progress I made during that time because of greed. I genuinely was contemplating giving up, rolling over, and just dying. Because I didn't think anything was worth doing anymore, and I was terrified of falling back into the cycle of addiction once I picked myself back up again. But then one day, I just had to put my life into perspective, I may have lost everything financially I had accrued, but the skills and discipline and hunger I learnt along the way will be with me forever; that is what I gained over all that time. I also learned an incredibly valuable lesson very early: that there is no shortcut to your goals. Additionally, I realised how fortunate I really am; there are so many less fortunate people than me, and I would be doing a disservice to them by giving up on my life. At the end of the day, I was just a broke 19-year-old, just like everyone else, and nothing is actually stopping me from achieving my goals. I am now 21, married, with a baby boy on the way. I run my own successful software company, and all the goals I set for myself back when I was 16, I have pretty much achieved them all (I have new goals now fyi). If we look at the timeline of my life, it took me 5 years of dedication to reach my goals, but if you break it up into the chapters, it only took me 2 years to claw back and beyond, since the period of rock bottom. I look back now with such gratitude for everything that has happened to me- the good, the bad, the ugly. I accept there will be new challenges to come, and Im ready to tackle them with an open mind and an unbreakable spirit. Now Im not an idiot; I understand that many of you reading this will have been through far worse than me, and I'm not trying to take away from any of your situations, but at the end of the day, no matter how large your problems are, YOU get to decide on your reaction; you choose what you do and how you will bounce back. No one would blame you for giving up because the truth is there is only a handful of people in your life that might care about your problems. No one's going to get you out of your misery; it's sad, but it means you have control over your life. To me, that's extremely exciting. You get to build yourself into whatever you want, please I beg you to just never give up. Be grateful for your experiences, good and bad; always keep moving forward and most importantly, be excited about what the future has in store for you.

If you made it this far, you probably are going through some things. Im not a recovery specialist, but feel free to reach out to me if you want someone to talk to, or someone to give you a different perspective on your situation.

God Bless You All.

I lost 35k by the age of 20

I would bet on memecoins and sports, and this was over a period of 5 years (yes I was 15). I would use dodgey websites play blackjack bet on memecoins sports pretty much everything. I thought there was some “strategy” behind it but at the end of the day I was just tossing money into the abyss. I’m now free though. I haven’t gambled in almost a year I don’t fee the urge anymore and I feel like I different person. I have a lovely girlfriend and hopefully a child soon. The point of this post is nothing is unrecoverable. You will bounce back. You have to dedicate yourself though. It will likely be the hardest thing you ever have to do but those tough times is what makes us into who we are. Honestly I’m grateful for everything that’s happened to me, because I likely would be where I am right now. God bless you all I believe in every single one of you, you can do this.
