Sleep regression or something else?
My LO is just shy of 5 months. In the last week I feel like he is eating constantly at night - I am trying not to look at the clock but I suspect it’s hourly. We still sleep chest to chest and sometimes I feel like he has trapped air but just can’t work it out. I’ve tried burping and soothing him and nothing settles him except the nipple. I’m exhausted but also worried about flipping his sense of day, like getting all of his meals at night. I’m wondering if he would do better if we switched to C curl but I need to get a floor mattress if so and chest is all we’ve ever done.
I don’t know if I have a specific question - I’m just tired and want to understand what’s happening so I can at least be at peace with this less than desirable sleep lol. We had a good thing going before this!
False start or something else?
My LO is 4.5 months - it doesn’t matter what his wake window is before bed, he wakes at the 35 min mark and needs help working out a burp (even if thoroughly burped). I can’t seem to work it out console him while keeping him in the crib. If I pick him up and hold him in the rocking chair he stays asleep. But if I transfer again, he acts the same way as previously described. Is there anything I could be doing different? I feel like the anecdotal experience is getting a long first stretch and I’m ready lol
Bubble help!
Curious others’ experience with baby needing help getting a burp out being what wakes them/ends the nap? I don’t want to have him in distress but wondering if he could work it out if I didn’t intervene. I end up picking him up and shortly after he burps. If I don’t engage much he will often stay asleep in my arms, so it makes me think he’s not actually ready to wake. Especially a bummer because I’m 6 weeks into an elimination diet and GI wise he’s otherwise great.
Baby is 17wo and crib naps on his belly without swaddle and cosleeps at night. I will say the bubble seems to magically be an issue at the same time as a developmentally normative nap time (52 min most recently). Maybe the gas bubble is a coincidence?
Bedtime?
I will preface by saying I understand infant sleep is what it is. But I’m sharing in case I am impacting anything and can make an adjustment that could be helpful.
My LO is just newly 4mo. His current wws are 1.25-2.25 (I think? Felt like today maybe he needed even longer…), longer as the day goes on. I feel like “bedtime” is somewhere around 730, because that’s his longest wake window, but then he still wakes up 35-45 min later. Except - is he awake? I started experimenting the last couple of days and I don’t think he’s actually waking. I think he’s got trapped air, or he has registered he’s been abandoned, but he’s not awake. Previously I’d been navigating this and preventing hysteria by feeding him and just calling it a night (we cosleep). And it works - he stays asleep/goes right back to sleep and stays asleep (with the exception of sleep feeding) until we get up in the morning.
So I guess my question is…will he just start sleeping longer in this first stretch sometime in the future? How do I know if he’s actually awake or if he might work out the burp if I left him alone without feeling like neglecting his cry?
TIA!
When yall say “my baby’s bedtime is…”
You mean?? My 11week old does nothing different at 9pm than at 3pm. It feels like another nap. We had a stretch where he would sleep 2-3 hours when put down but it didn’t last and I don’t know what we did differently. Any tips on how to explain to him that it’s bedtime? Trying to keep him up and build more pressure just backfires and then he gets overtired and goes down crying.
Looking for thoughts
my babe is 10 weeks old. He’s fallen into a morning nap of ~3 hours in the bassinet. I am shocked and grateful. But I’m noticing that each subsequent nap is harder and harder to put him down and bedtime doesn’t feel like bedtime and can be impossible to transfer to bassinet - it feels like another nap until I bring him to bed (we cosleep). I definitely don’t know how people feed their babe right before bed - mine will spit up and soak the bassinet and not be able to settle.
I’m inclined to be responsive and let him sleep/not wake from the first nap, knowing that overtired can make other naps worse, but obviously this means he’s going 3.5+ hours without eating. Also, after he wakes, I generally have been looking for sleepy cues around 45 min to an hour and putting him down by 1 h and 15 at the latest. He then typically sleeps 40-50 minutes and we do that cycle til bedtime. If he didn’t sleep so well between feeds at night, I’d think he had his day/night switched with how well this first nap has been going. (Still feeding every 2-3 hours at night).
Sorry this is ramble-y #newbornmombrain
Burping
A curiosity regarding burping: for those of you who are diligent about keeping baby upright 15 to 20 minutes after feeding/patting to burp before laying down, do you find that they rest uninterrupted? I have not found any consistency between when I make a point to burp for a while versus letting baby work it out on his own (I’ve observed that he will instinctively do this twist motion and work them out on his own) and I’m just curious if maybe I’m not waiting long enough and doing him a disservice, as it seems he’s interrupted a good bit when in light sleep working out burps, though never fully wakes. He’s just over one month. Thanks in advance!
