Entitled Airline Customer is unbelievable

Hey Waffle Gang!

I just listened to an old podcast of Mark's from a couple of years ago. It had a story about an entitled airline customer that was unhappy with the drink options.

Well, I have a doozy for you.

Back in 2021 I worked for one of the two national airlines in Canada. I worked from home but was a sales and service agent. So that meant I took customer service calls, booked flights, canceled flights - the whole thing. If anyone has ever been to Canada in the winter, you know that there's a strong likelihood of a snowstorm somewhere in the country. It just so happened that a nasty snowstorm went through Toronto over Christmas. It was a disaster. People were calling in trying to get different flights than the ones automatically booked, their luggage was lost, was the airline going to reimburse them for the extra night in the hotel...and on and on it went.

And then Mrs. X called in. She was VERY angry that her husband was on a different flight back to their home from Toronto than her and her son. I said that that was weird as the airline works very hard to ensure that everyone on one ticket stays together on a new ticket. So I looked into it. Turns out hubby was originally on a different ticket than wife and son. So, as the airline had no idea they were traveling together, put him on a different (and earlier) flight home. Here is how the conversation went as best as I can remember it:

Mrs. X: I want to be on the same flight as my husband going back home.

Me: I'm sorry that flights booked up and I can't get you on an earlier flight.

Mrs. X: My husband is a very important man in our community and he needs his family to travel with him.

Me: Again, I'm sorry but I can't put you on the same flight as him. It's already booked.

Mrs. X: Well then, kick someone off that flight!

Me: Wh..what?

Mrs. X: You heard me. I got kicked off my flight, I want you to kick someone off my husband's flight so my son and I can travel with him.

Me: I can't do that.

Mrs. X: Yes you can. You kicked me off my flight, you can kick someone else off of his flight. He's VERY important to the community and we have to be with him.

Me: You didn't get kicked off. There was a snowstorm and the flight was canceled.

Mrs. X: It's the same thing! If you won't do it put me through to someone who will!

Me: Ma'am, no one's going to do that for you. You're going to have to go on the flight scheduled for you and your son.

Mrs. X: I'm going to take this further. What's your name? I'm going to report you.

Me: Ok, then.

I wasn't worried about being reported. She was nutcase and no one was going to take her seriously. Besides, it was my last week working for this company so I didn't care.

Update to a previous story

Some of you might remember an episode Mark did in June 2025 where a fiance's sister was causing wedding issues for OP and made life miserable? The title was "Sister-in-Law SABOTAGED My Wedding...Then Found Out Fiance Was Helping Her".

Well, there have been several updates and I hope Mark covers them.

Bobblehead Coworker a challenge to work with

Hey Reddit,

I'd like to tell you about one of my coworkers, we'll call Marjorie. We work in a small retail location that's pretty busy. There are 7 of us that work there in total and I can't stand Marjorie, because she's super annoying. It's going to be a bit of a rant and long. I'm sorry but it's nice to get this off my chest.

When I started there it was my second job so I only had 2 shifts / week and didn't see her all that often. When we did work together I thought that she was bubbly and friendly and knew a lot about our products and was able to make some great suggestions to our customers. I even suggested that she get further training in a slightly different but adjacent field so that she could make a better living. I told her that I thought she would do well. Clearly, I didn't know her very well.

About 6 months in I got laid off from my main job but my manager was kind enough to increase my hours at the store. This meant more interaction with Marjorie. Marjorie is 37 and I'm f57. Our products are heavy to lift and because we are busy, stock is coming in all the time and has to be put out as quick as possible. This was all relatively new to me as I wasn't involved in that portion very much in my two shifts. So, I buckle down and start to learn what is fully needed. Along the way I would make mistakes. If I made a mistake while Marjorie was around she laughed. At first I brushed it off and then it started to get annoying, so I mentioned it to my manager who told me that I would have to talk to her. Fine. I waited a while to see if she continued with it if I just didn't react. She did it regardless. One day when I was working with one of the 19 year olds, she told me that Marjorie laughs at her when she makes a mistake. Well, I went into full mama bear mode (I don't have kids but the instinct is there I guess) and I told my manager that I was going to ask Marjorie to stop it. So, with both the MGR and Asst Mgr there, I asked Marjorie very politely to stop laughing at my mistakes. Her face turns red and her head goes up and down like a bobblehead.

So, she did stop but that's when I noticed how often she does the bobblehead routine. Mgr asks her to do something, she bobbles her head in agreement and does something entirely different. Asst Mgr asks her to do something and she bobbles her head in agreement and does something entirely different. I'm not sure why she actually agreed to stop laughing at people when they make mistakes other then I have a "don't fuck with me face".

The doing something entirely different from what was asked or not doing it all has been an ongoing problem. I get frustrated working with her because she doesn't pull her weight. Back in December I got sick but couldn't afford not to go to work so I did, and I still did more work than she did. Turns out I had bronchitis. I lost it though when a few of us were rushing around getting stock out and Marjorie was up at the till dancing to Christmas music when no one was in line.

I also feel frustrated because Marjorie gets a lot of weekends off (Fridays and Saturdays anyway) compared to me. She gets 3 day weekends that I don't. I work far more closing shifts than she does (we are open until 10pm) and I don't feel like there's an even distribution of these shifts. I even came up with an alternative way to schedule all of us but was told that 3 day weekends aren't always possible. I wondered (but didn't say out loud) how they are possible for Marjorie but not me.

A new scheduling system is coming into place in the next few weeks so I'm hopeful this problem will be naturally cleared up.

Thanks for letting me vent.

tl;dr Co worker isn't productive but bobbles her head in agreement to do tasks that she then doesn't do.

Hope for Those Struggling in Relationships

I (f57) am relatively new to Reddit and have been listening to Reddit based podcasts for about 4 / 5 months or so. I'm honestly heartbroken by the amount of shitty people out there in the world. For context, yes, I'm generally naive about a whole bunch of things.

I came here because I see a lot of posts about relationships that have gone awry. Sometimes they should have and sometimes I think that maybe with therapy there could be a different ending. My husband (m64) and I have been married for 32 years and together for 35 years. The first couple of years of our marriage were tough as every few weeks one of us was walking out on the other. Arguments were HEATED.

I don't remember exactly what was the turning point but after many conversations some honesty and self-reflection was required. We are both avid readers and started reading books about self-improvement. This helped. However, these 32 years of marriage have had many ups and downs and I think because we both love each other very much, we soldiered on.

Having said that, I want to be clear that at no point in our marriage has either one of us cheated on the other, abused the other, or hidden anything major from the other. Sure, I've had crushes on movie characters, but interestingly enough they ALL look like hubby. I don't really think he has ever had a crush on any character because he follows the plot of any movie intently.

But honestly, if we didn't communicate with each other, give each other space, and respected each other, this marriage would not have survived. So, to those people that are struggling in their marriage or relationship, the very first piece of advice I want to give you is to employ open and honest communication. If you can't be honest with each other, then you really need to rethink the relationship. A long marriage is possible and completely doable but it does require work. Don't give up hope.

I am not requesting advice, but just wanted to give some in general.

tl;dr Marriages take a lot of work.
