Ultrasonic cleaners

I see ads for ultrasonic cleaners popping up on my Instagram feed. A quick check with Gemini et all says that they’re safe to use with high-end acetates and lenses but somehow I am not sure. Hence reaching out to experienced eyewear veterans here:

Are they safe to use with sunglasses and optical glasses where we have coatings and frames like JMM, etc., where you have acetate, titanium, and others with gold and silver? What about the impact on the lenses and coatings?

I currently clean my lenses with distilled water spray and use a soft tissue /microfiber cloth to dry them. For acetates, I use a microfiber cloth for just wiping them at the end of the day before storing them back.

Bugatti eyewear: When companies do not list any price, then how do you decide the price point?

Yesterday one of the sunglass stores in India sent me pics of Bugatti Eyewear’s collaboration with Larry Sands. Normally, I am able to determine the premium I am paying for duties and limited supply by comparing it against the official price available on the company website. However, when no price is listed on the company website, then does one wait for the reseller market to discover the price point after the initial hype or is there another way? The question is more an academic one for me (the economics student in me refuses to die) as I find Bugatti frames too bling for me, but I am keen to know that those like me who live in areas with limited access to official stores for most brands, how do they manage?

Which emerging independent eyewear brands are nailing the 'high-concept + artisan quality' formula right now?

Most top sunglasses and optical frame players that are rated very high across channels are recent names like JMM, AKONI, DITA, etc. so i am guessing that some one comes out with a great idea and backs it with quality and with celebreties wearing them, they become a rage. if that be true, then which are similar emerging stars on your radar across globe? independent, great quality, and great deisgn, being the key.

Who is the next Jacques Marie Mage?

Esmont Black Angel Black Gold advice

I came across Esmont through an introduction from an out of town optometrist and through The Spectacle Factory liking it a lot. I have not experienced it in real life or on my face. As many of you are sunglasses and glasses connoisseurs so I wanted to check if any of you has bought Esmont and how do you rate it?

H1 Monaco Series

Grinning as I finally found a H1 Monaco Series and now awaiting my Esmont Black Eagle Black Gold. I am always confused that do I like Acetates more or Titanium? I think I have an equal distribution of both but love the acetates like Swamy from LA Eyewear or Sine from Lesca. Which way do most of you roll? Acetate or Titanium? Here, shared some of both from my collection.

Which independent sunglass brands manufactured in your country are worth collecting ?

I try to collect good sunglasses manufactured in different countries, but I was surprised in a recent search in Croatia to find that one couldn’t easily buy “Sheriff and Cherry” in Croatia, the country of its origin. This has motivated me to curate a list of good independent sunglass brands from different countries.

Most I know come from the USA, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Spain and the UK.

Please tell about the independent sunglass manufacturers / brands from other countries (good quality, and priced up to 1000 USD maximum).

Thanks in advance.

Wondering Essilor Luxottica dislike about their monopoly power or something deeper?

I read many posts about Essilor Luxottica hate and that extends by most to brands under this mammoth’s portfolio but then I wonder that is it purely on account of their monopolistic grip or for something beyond? When they have Muai Jim, Oliver People, Shamir, et all under their fold and keep buying other brands, then that does not make quality under these brands suspect. For example, many of us love Eyevan and I have some recent Oliver Peoples which mention manufactured by Eyevan Inc.

I have a portfolio of many independent makers also but as I am a new convert to collecting eyewear for learning more about them, so will get to know of comparative quality only over the years as I use them.

Wanted broader views of the group, as I find that most brands that I like, including Barton etc are all being bought by one mammoth or the other. Hence, I personally feel that I will look at how quality and material is and keep buying.

Thanks in advance.

Are True Vintage Revival 505-46 ok for a normal size face?

I have to get a TVR frame and it will be shipped to me. As the clip-on is available only in size 46, so I wanted to check if any community member has used size 46 TVR frame before? My face profile is attached.

Lesca Lunetier

My first. Took some time to lay my hands on this upcycle edition Sine-B, and my first big acetate frame but loving it.
