Cosleeping-friendly hospital stay

Cosleeping-friendly hospital stay

Hi all, I just want to share a positive story of a hospital stay with my 22month old, after hearing many stories about hospital experiences that don't allow co-sleeping. We were admitted into the children's ward at a hospital in Western Australia. There was only a cot in the room with a sofa bed next to it. The nurse immediately asked if we co-slept and if so, she would replace the cot for a bed for the both of us. No judgement whatsoever.

We also had a stay here a few months ago just in the emergency ward, and the nurse were also very supportive of us co-sleeping then too.

I'd love to hear other's experiences, positives and negatives about hospital status for co-sleeping families.

My little guy is fine, just needed some help getting through a nasty virus (probably RSV).

[Academic research] Your Experiences Returning to Work After Parental Leave

Hi everyone,

I work at Edith Cowan University, and I'm conducting an ethics-approved research study exploring parents' experiences of returning to paid work after parental leave.

Returning to work after having a baby is a significant transition, yet we still know relatively little about which workplace practices genuinely support parents during this time. This study aims to better understand those experiences and contribute to research that can inform future workplace policies and practices.

You are eligible if you:

  • are 18 years or older;
  • are a parent; and
  • have returned to paid work following parental leave.

The anonymous survey takes approximately 20–25 minutes to complete and includes questions about:

  • workplace support;
  • flexible work arrangements;
  • supervisor support;
  • childcare and family responsibilities;
  • wellbeing; and
  • infant feeding experiences (where applicable).

The study has been approved by the Edith Cowan University Human Research Ethics Committee.

As both a researcher and a parent, I'm passionate about improving the experiences of parents returning to work. There have been very few studies on these experiences, despite how common they are! This leads to many workplace decisions being made without a strong evidence base. By sharing your experiences you'll be contributing to research that aims to better understand what helps parents thrive at work while caring for their families.

Thank you for considering taking part and for helping build the evidence needed to improve workplace support for parents. I really appreciate your time.

And thanks to the sub moderators for giving me permission to post!

[Academic] Parents' experiences returning to work after parental leave (Parents, 18+, have returned to paid work following parental leave)

Hi everyone,

I'm a Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University (Australia) conducting an ethics-approved research study exploring parents' experiences of returning to paid work following parental leave.

Despite millions of parents returning to work every year, we still know surprisingly little about which workplace practices genuinely help parents thrive after parental leave. This research aims to build that evidence and help inform future workplace policies and practices.

Who can participate?

  • Aged 18 years or older
  • A parent
  • Have returned to paid work following parental leave
  • Able to complete the survey in English

The anonymous survey takes approximately 20–25 minutes and includes questions about:

  • workplace support
  • supervisor support
  • flexibility
  • childcare
  • family responsibilities
  • wellbeing
  • infant feeding experiences (where applicable)

The study has been approved by the Edith Cowan University Human Research Ethics Committee.

Thank you very much for considering participating. Every response will help improve understanding of how workplaces can better support parents returning to work.
