A masterful feat of engineering aboard the Электрон спутник 1the first artificial satellite was launched. the sibling satellites of спутник 1 and the Электрон Влок-Б core stage are circling the earth almost exactly 2 years before the first satellite irl.

Rp-1 is lwky the best and most challenging game I have ever played and the amount of joy i find in overcoming these challenges is insane, when I first started I was very confused and overwhelmed but decided to stick with it and it payd off, even though I should probably try getting my time spent on ksp per week back below 20hrs lol. Thx btw to all the people that encouraged me to give this a try.

Soviet X-plane: Экна СР-Ласточка

March 1954: Test pilot, yaoi gagarin died in a crash while attempting to land the СР-3 Ласточка after successfully completing her mission to reach 40km in the exlerinental rocket plane, a replacement is being built currently.

Although future pilots are advised to simply land in the flat deserts around Baikonur Kosmodrom.

It is soon to be replaced by СР-4 Медведев (similar to X-15, just more capable)

It means swallow btw and Otherwise it flies great, I was just at a bad angle to the airfield and stalled on landing. If you want the craft file I can give a download link the next time I am on my pc.

Dumb question ik, but how do I navigate with planes

I have built this (totally not a spyplane) and I need a way to create waypoints and make them appear on the nav ball or something so I can land on a runway instead of the desert. I know you can make waypoints but they are useless if they don't appear on the navball even if I activate navigation to them. I don't just want to land in the desert and idk how except for guessing based on the position of the sun and the map view.

Is the easiest way to just place a small craft/a flag maybe near the runway I want to land at and set it as a target.

I built an airbase with KK a few hundred kilometers from my space center and I am trying to land there or at the space center, really doesn't matter much.

How do you do navigation?

What materials to use for airframes

These are some of my plane designs, first one is a MiG 15 inspired and the second one is a mix of MiG 19 and 21

Idk what materials I should use, I have tried fairings(on the MiG 15) they are very light but sorr of hard to shape and there are sometimes weird interactions with landing gear which messes up aerodynamics I am currently using Procedural structural parts for the fuselages (in the MiG mashup) but idk if it is the most cost/mass efficient way

What do you usually use? Are empty tanks an option?

I also use the same tank dismeter from my early sounding rockets 0.45m and add multiple 3-5m long tanks clipped into the fuselage

how do you build the N1?

I havent found any prefab part mod for the N1 tanks, I know the engines are there but i really dont want to use procedural parts to make the rocket look realistic.

if there isnt one I will probably just build a UR-700 cuz it is way cooler anyways

(i tried rn soviet rockets but the n1 parts seem to have been blocked by rp1)

edit for clarification: I do not mind procedural parts, I would use them for the UR700 and I like them but I think building The N1 accurately would be difficult with procedural parts so I asked for a premade part mod. I mean specifically the tooling coat for all of the details especially on blok A and V, the domes and interstages would be ez tho just those ribs on the side

I saw the beardy penguin used premade tanks for the N1 but he probably configured the parts from SXT himself, I should look for that in his modpack

Sol terrain is way too uneven around launchsites

I love building large custo space centre with KK but with Sol the terrain arround the launchsites (especially baikonur) is very uneven and way more so than in old RSS.
This is very annoying as building with KK on uneven terrain is kinda difficult especially when trying to use things like the railway statics from i think kerbinside? idk where they are from but I have only found one direction from baikonur in which I could place them without going through a hill and even now it is floating in spots.
The locations for aunchsites are lso kinda limited if i dont want to have them float.
The KSC also seems to be floating a few meters above ground.

I should probably just try to get in contact with the creator tho

Parallax issues

Idk why but since launching the game yesterday parallax scatters only appear at a certain distance from the craft and only at a certain angle.The density also seems really low even though I didnt change anything.

for context:

this is SOL/RP1 it worked perfectly fine until recently. I dont think parallax got an update but maybe it is because I went down to 4k from 8k textures due to vram issues.

My first space program is going well, I need some advice tho

For context:

I have completed the following contracts: 100km, 140km(suborbital), low space bio return, low space film return

I have researched: Post war material science, early tracking systems (or whatever gives you the bio capsule and film camera) and post war rocketry testing

I am researching rn early rocketry,early science,early material science

Now for the questions:

Should I do optional contracts, and how many?

(I need optional contracts to get more funding, no?)

Should I fully staff my new 12t, 73 engineer complex?

Should I upgrade the admin building to be able to start the x-planes program?

What tech nodes should I research?

How much monthly positive balance should I keep, should I hire engineers and researchers till I am down to +500 a month or so ?(rn I am at +1800 )

why no gimbal on any of the RD100/model 39 engines?

there is a gimbal on this R2, which I am trying to replicate, however there is no such thing on any Rd100 variant, why is that, and is there a way to add one?

also how do these types of gimbal work? There is one on the RD200 but I dont get it.

Wait aminute, it gimbals??!! lol I just tgested the rocket and it gimbals wth lol

Edit number two: just to clarify i meant there weren't those gimbal block thingies on any of the model 39 derived engines
