Hot Rehearsal Space

Middle school band director in GA. If you live in the South you know how August-October can be. My room is unbearably hot and humid. I’ve told administration about it and they’ve put in multiple requests for HVAC to come out and fix it but maintenance aren’t the fastest moving people in the world, and even then half of the time they don’t even fix the problem. Some kids have started to complain and get nauseous because of the classroom conditions. Any recommendations on how to cool down my band room?

Car Stutter

2014 Camry LE 185K miles. My car stutters and does that clicking sound about every other time I turn it on. The other day my turn signals started malfunctioning for a couple minutes before returning to normal. Does anyone know the possible cause of this? I thought it was a spark plug misfire at first so I replaced them but the problem didn’t go away. This is my car battery and I’m not sure the last time it’s been replaced so I thought that might be the issue.

All help is appreciated.

District Schedule Change

**LONG READ**

1st year middle school band director here. For the upcoming school year the district decided to put every school (elementary, middle and high) on a A/B day schedule. Monday and Wednesday is A, Tuesday Thursday is B. Every nine weeks, Friday switches between A and B day. So for the first nine weeks, Friday is an A day, then for the next nine weeks it’s a B day.

The problem is that my band classes are only on A days, B days is general music (I tried to fight it but they wouldn’t let me change it). I wanted to build this band program because the district will shut it down if I don’t get my numbers up, we already lost our choir and orchestra program due to low numbers/funding. When the nine weeks come and Friday is a B day, I will only have my band students for two days out the entire week.

How am I supposed to build up my program if I can’t meet with my kids at least half the week for half of the year?

Any advice is appreciated because I’m really stressed out and I want my students to succeed.

Thinking about getting these for my ‘14 Camry LE. I want a more sporty look and I like the look of these, I’ve seen positive reviews online so I might get them. Thoughts?

My district is switching schedules next school year to block scheduling. Basically instead of my middle school students having band every day, they’ll have it every other day so I only see them twice or 3x a week. My goal was to build the program because we’re very small right now but this sounds detrimental. If anyone else had to deal with this, how did you all succeed?
