First “character” model, looking for tips and critique

First time painting a more in depth model, not just Intecessors. Ultramarine Captain in Terminator Armour. My process was:

  1. Prime in Colour Forge Matt Black spray
  2. TTC Marine Blue touch up
  3. TTC Oblivion Black Wash
  4. Edge highlight with Calgar Blue and Fenrisian Grey
  5. Gold components and shaded with Seraphim Sepia
  6. Metallics were Leadbelcher and Nuln Oil
  7. Crux Terminatus was Dawnstone base and Vallejo off-white with Nuln Oil shade
  8. Gloss Varnish and Transfers applied
  9. 1:1 Gloss and Matt Varnish by Vallejo for final coat

I recently watched a Podcast on miniature painting and that each miniature is a “snapshot” in time of what you might have been going through when you painted the model. I’ve had a pretty tough year and lots of stress in recent weeks and I felt like I rushed this model more than I normally would and the finish reflects that to me. I’d like to take more time with these types of models and enjoy the process rather than feel rushed or stressed to finish it.

If anyone had any tips or critiques for the model I’d be more than happy to hear, I enjoy the painting and it’s a hobby I’m really glad I picked up again. Also the community has been awesome!

Progress critiques on Ultramarines

I have been painting for approximately 2 months. I don't really have any friends or people who paint models also and I wanted to get critique on my progress and any tips, tricks or advice on where I can improve. The models are left to right first model, middle model and my model I painted tonight.

My basic process now is:

Basecoat Matt Black, cover in TTC Marine blue, fill black details, metallics and shade, edge highlight, recess shade, fine details, brush Vallejo gloss varnish, transfers and then Matt spray varnish and base.

Any advice would be awesome! Thanks

First time painting Redemptor Dreadnaught

I think I’m really happy with this guy. Please if you have any tips I’m more than keen to hear them.

Also any varnishing tips for the model would be appreciated.

Thank you!

New to Varnishing models

New to the hobby. Only been painting for 2 weeks and I’ve just heard about varnishing. What does everyone use for Space Marines?

I tried a canned matte varnish today and felt like it turned the model I used it on powdery and not how I like when I finished painting it.

I’m open to suggestions or tips, thanks heaps!

Redemptor Dreadnought

Just venting. This thing was so hard to build. I screwed it up about 5 times before having to resign to gluing certain parts that probably shouldn’t be glued to just keep the thing standing.

Will definitely have to read the instructions much closer next time haha

Space Marine Combat Medic

I’m fairly new to painting miniatures and I also work as a Paramedic. I wanted to try my hand at making a Space Marine combat medic (apothecary adjacent).

This is how he turned out, I’m happy for feedback or any panting tips!

Just joined 4K QD-OLED club

Just bought myself the Alienware AW3225QF 32" 4K 240Hz Curved QD-OLED.

I’ve only ever played at 2K OLED and I was wondering what I should do to best optimise the:

  1. HDR settings
  2. Can someone explain the DLSS vs 4K native argument
  3. Any other tips or tricks

I’m running a 9800X3D with a RTX 5080, 32GB ram

Thanks heaps

Tax Time!

G'day, just wanting to see if anyone around the Brisbane area knew or had any recommendations for an accountant that specializes in QLD Health or Ambulance Service tax needs.

Cheers

Blurry distance visuals

I run my Horizon FW on pretty much all highest settings. I use DLAA and Frame Gen for really smooth gameplay but the visuals in the distance always end up blurry when I move/run and refocus when I stand still. I'm fairly sure it's a product of FG but when I turn it off it still occurs. Is there a fix for this on PC?

EDIT: Motion blur, radial blur, depth of field, vignette are also all off.

I know this has probably been done to death, but I wanted some more up to date advice around optimizing these settings. I have a 5080, 9800x3D and play on 1440p QD-OLED monitor 280hz.

What settings should I change or optimize from the stock settings I currently am on and some pointers on DLSS 4.5 presets etc. I mostly play single player games and currently playing Dead Space, Starfield and Jedi Survivor etc.

I wouldn't be upset if people also just linked me YouTube tutorials they found helpful also. Thanks!
