I am delighted to join the Canik scene. Got this new for only $500 😤

I've had a recent falling out with Glocks. Yes they're reliable, but way too overpriced in my opinion. For example, I went to mount a Holosun EPS carry on my G43X MOS and realized that my iron sights would not be able to co-witness with the dot. I then realized that my CZ P10-C was able to co-witness with a Holosun EPS with the OEM iron sights, it felt better to shoot, and was only $425 new vs $484 for a new G43X (or $620 if you want a new Gen 6 🤪). If my main compact 9mm can beat the legendary Glock 19 (in my opinion of course), then I was sure there was a challenger for the G43X.

Anyways, I went to the range to try out some some different options (Sig P365Xl, Hellcat Pro, Shield plus) but I wasn't feeling any of them. I was about to leave when one of the employees recommended checking out the Canik TP9 Elite (SC). I thought it was the best gun I had shot that night, but the grip was too short. He suggested trying out an MC9LS if I wanted something with a longer grip and was more slim (like the G43X). I managed to meet up with a friend of a friend and shot his. I knew immediately this could be the gun to replace the Glock. It had a way better trigger, the ergo's were fantastic, and the grip was solid for a gun that was optic ready and as low as $384 on some websites via gun.deals (great resource btw), while the G43X MOS was $484 on the low end. Game set right? Well, I decided to look at the other Canik Models on their website for fun before ordering the MC9LS. I saw the MC9 Elite and liked the upgraded features but did not want a compensator on a ccw. But lo and behold, there was another MC9 Prime model with no comp. The employee at the range did not even know about this newer model. It looked good, but I did not think it justified the price increase to the MC9LS. But out of curiosity I searched gun.deals and found one listed for $500 with no comp. I thought this had to be a scam and went to the website. It was a legitimate business in Georgia with thousands of reviews. I still did not think there was any way I would get this gun at this price, but what the hell right? I placed the order. Once I got to my order confirmation, I went back to the guns page on that website and saw the MC9 Prime NC was now out of stock and would cost $590. I was sure that this meant my order would be canceled, as I had heard this had happened before for this business for some popular models. For the rest of that weekend, I was waiting to get an email from them saying they would actually not be able to fulfill my order. Again, I did not care and just thought I should give it a try. But after the weekend, I got am email stating it had shipped. I still thought there would be something messed up with this order when I picked it up from the FFL (such as them listing the comped version as the non-comped version). But sure enough it was the actual gun I ordered. What a great surprise man. The MC9LS already blew the G43X out of the water, but this thing could run laps on it. It was just as nice as the MC9LS and had an even nicer design. To all the Glock fans, I'm sorry but they just can not compete with so many other brands out there at an inflated price point. They'll always have clout for being the early innovators and reliable as hell, but companies like Canik, CZ, and S&W (respect to the Bodyguard 2.0 in the corner of the picture) show that you need to keep at it if you don't want to become a non-starter in the striker-fired handgun world.

TLDR: Got tired of the Glock 43X. Tried out MC9LS and loved it, but was able to get the MC9 Prime at an excellent deal. Now happy to be a Canik owner👍.

Bought 2 New Glock 19's (Gen 5 MOS and Gen 6). Am debating if I should keep both or sell Gen 5?

Don't judge how I got here, but I managed to fumble my way into buying two Glock 19's by mistake. Both are brand new, but I have only shot the Gen 6 as I wanted to have a new G19 in the most recent generation. So now I have an extra mint condition G19 Gen 5 MOS that I am debating on what to do with.

For background, I primarily carry a P10-C or G43x on rare occasions. I decided that I would like to have two compact striker-fired 9mm's and went with the G19.6. I enjoy the gun! I don't see it replacing my P-10C as my primary carry right now, but it is a solid compact 9mm I would be more than happy to carry. My logic was that Glock 19's are very common and access to magazines or other parts would be the most easy for this brand. I also bought a Extar EP9 a few months ago and it can use Glock magazines, so why not go that route as well?

But now I don't know what to do with the G19.5 MOS. I am aware that changes were made between the Gen 5 and Gen V guns. I also know that there was some controversy with those changes as well. I've heard stuff about more limited access to aftermarket support right now for Gen V and Gen 6 vs previous generations. I could really go either way on keeping the G19.5. I am not in dire need of the money and understand that having an extra gun is never a bad thing (especially a Glock). However, I would also like to own a different type of gun than my compact 9mm's and Ar-15's (such as a .22 rifle, .308 rifle for more precision shooting, or even a different size/brand striker fired gun). If I really wanted to get one of these guns, I would need to sell the G19.5 to justify it financially. Also, I'm not selling the G19.6 (it feels nice man, can't pass that up).

So in short, should I hold on to the G19.5 due to it no longer being in production/issues or limited accessibility with generations V and 6 or do I try to find someone to buy it and use the funds to get something different that I am after. Again, it would have to be one or the other. I may not need the funds but I can not justify keeping the G19.5 and buying one more gun. I know that is blasphemous to many (which is fair), but that is just my personal situation. I appreciate any feedback and I'm happy to be a part of the Glock family! Thanks!!!

P10C Back-strap Pin Advice

To begin: Yes, I am a dumbass and deserve to be shamed for it. If you feel the need to tell me, please do so after any helpful advice you can provide.

Basically, I used too small of a punch and went through the entire middle of the pin. I was able to remove the punch from the pin and this is where I am at now. I tried to slide the back-strap off to see if the pin was compromised but it would not budge. I even tried to use a small flat-head to see if that would pry it off (gently, not trying to damage the frame) but it still stayed in place. I shot about 200 rounds and have not noticed any movement thus far. I do not need to replace the current back-strap (I was simply curious to see how the Medium or Large ones would feel). So I am wondering about best next steps. I have three thoughts:

  1. Try to use the correct punch size to remove this pin and install a new replacement one.

The only reason I am hesitant about this is that it may do more harm than good. I know these pins are notoriously difficult to remove and don't want to tempt my luck.

  1. Try to use a small amount of heat resistant epoxy or super glue to fill the hole.

The actual screw is not opened into the mag-well so I would not be worried about anything leaking into there. Not sure if this would keep me completely locked into this specific back-strap size, but I am willing to live with that.

  1. Do nothing?

Maybe not the best option, but I have not had any issues thus far. Obviously I know it is best to fix these things before anything bad happens, but would it be best to simply let sleeping dogs lie? I do plan on putting some talon stick-on grips on the gun, so I would like to make a decision before attaching those so I do not waste money.

Please let me know your thoughts or other ideas. Thank you all.

Sincerely,

A Dumbass
