I get paid to live with and be friends with my roommate.

It’s sort of an odd situation but when I was moving to a new city for college I joined a Facebook group about finding roommates in the area.

I didn’t have a lot of money and would be working to pay my own rent so I wanted somewhere cheap. After two potential places fell through I was losing hope.

Then I got a message from my roommates mom. She basically explained her kid struggled to make friends and keep roommates around.

She was super desperate and offered to pay half my rent each month. All I had to do was live with her kid and be their friend. I was also super desperate to find somewhere to live before the semester started so I agreed.

I’ve held up my end of the deal despite the fact that I absolutely hate my roommate. They are disgusting, have no social awareness, completely helpless, super dramatic, have an insanely mess social life, and generally just suck to live with.

I absolutely hate them but I get to live in a really nice apartment for pretty cheap. Despite being a nightmare roommate and person I do still feel bad for them. I know if they found out they’d be devastated so I’ve never told anyone about it.

How do I get my wife working?

Wife has been a SAHM for close to 20 years. Before that she worked some book keeping and secretary type jobs. Two of the kids are over 18, one moved out several years ago and we have a 13 yo. I'm tired of working my ass off all the time. I make okay money but we've never had extra money and still have debt. She's only 45 and seems to think we're retiring soon or something. Yeah there's no retirement account except my old 401k with like 25k in it. I work from home a lot and it makes my seeth to see her waste an entire day sleeping till noon and scrolling. Hard part is she's a good mom, always dinner made but often leftovers which is fine so it's not like she's cooking every day. She's a smart person that needs to get the eff out of this house and do adult things, talk to grown ups, make a friend, have a drink after work idk. My job is pretty flexible although a grind but I own my own business and can schedule what I want. I am a good cook too and do things like my own laundry, I'm not a "just work" guy. Kids all do their own laundry and can clean as well. She has so much free time it's insane. I've offered for her to go to community college, find anything she likes to do, I just want her out of the house and making a little money, like $1000 a month would be awesome. This has been a vent post.
