Aeroplan Companion Pas… am I missing something, or is this incredibly frustrating?

I recently earned an Aeroplan Companion Pass and have been trying to actually use it, but I’m finding the whole process pretty frustrating.

I’ll search for flights and the itinerary will show that the Companion Pass can be applied, but once I get to the final booking/payment page, I’ll get a message saying the Companion Pass couldn’t be applied / the flight doesn’t qualify.

What makes it even more frustrating is that some of these flights are actually more expensive with the Companion Pass than simply booking a similar itinerary on a partner airline. So at times it feels like I’m not really getting much value from the pass.

A few questions for anyone who has successfully used one:
-Is there a trick to finding flights that actually qualify?
-Why would Aeroplan display a flight as Companion Pass eligible and then remove the option at checkout?
-Is it generally better to use it for a specific type of trip rather than trying to use it whenever the opportunity comes up?

I’d really appreciate any tips from people who have used Companion Passes successfully. I’m sure there’s something I’m missing here. 😅

Does your local Costco still carry this ? Haven’t seen it in a few months; when I asked the employee they said it’s “seasonal” but yet I’ve purchased it there for many years 😓

Headed to Greece in September with my girlfriend. I’ve been there before and visited Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos. This will be her first time and now visiting as a couple. Which of these places do you recommend or leave out? We pinned it down to these islands: Aegina, Agistri, Poros, Hydra

Has anyone experience any issues booking flights using Aeroplan points ? When I try to use points, I get this error message. If I uncheck it, flights magically appear. 🤨
