Insta360 X4 vs DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro — which would you choose for travel/adventures?

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to choose my first small action/360 camera, and I'm stuck between:

  • Insta360 X4
  • DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro

I already have a Canon 700D, which I'll continue using mainly for photography. I'm looking for a much smaller camera that I can take everywhere for vacations, travel, adventures, family memories, behind-the-scenes footage, and potentially Instagram/YouTube.

I'm also hoping that having a small camera might get me more interested in videography, since I don't really enjoy holding my DSLR for long periods.

What I care about

  • Good video quality for social media/YouTube
  • Good stabilization
  • Good low-light performance — I go out at night fairly often
  • Small and easy to carry
  • Good battery life
  • Something I can keep for many years
  • I want to actually use it, rather than have it sit around
  • I don't do a huge amount of reframing/editing, although I'm willing to learn
  • I'm not looking for the absolute best/most expensive option. I want the one that makes the most sense for my use.

I'm particularly interested in the X4 because I've always wanted a 360 camera. I also understand that both can record normal single-lens video, so I'm not only considering them for 360 footage.

Prices

The X4 and Action 5 Pro are similar pricing.

What would you choose?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have actually owned/used these cameras, particularly for travel and everyday adventures.

Would you personally spend the money on the X4? Or would you choose the Action 5 Pro instead?

Also, if you've owned both a 360 camera and a conventional action camera, which one do you actually find yourself using more?

Thanks! 🙏

Should I buy DJI/Insta360 from Taobao China or locally in Cambodia?

I'm considering buying a fairly expensive DJI/Insta360 product (most likely an Insta360 X4/X5 or a DJI action 5 pro), and I've noticed that prices on Taobao can be significantly cheaper than what I can find in Cambodia

I'm aware that Taobao has official/legitimate stores and many reputable sellers, but I'm still hesitant because there are so many third-party sellers. I've also seen people mention receiving the wrong product, having problems with customer service, or struggling with returns/warranty when buying from China.

Since the money is coming from my parents, I'm much more concerned about reliability and after-sales support than getting the absolute lowest price

For anyone who has experience with this?

Have you bought DJI or Insta360 products from Taobao/Tmall?

Did you buy from an official store or a third-party seller?

Was the product genuinely new and authentic?

Did you have any problems with warranty or activation?

If something went wrong, how did the seller handle it?

Would you recommend buying from China instead of buying locally?

For someone in Cambodia, is the price difference actually worth the additional risk/hassle

I'd especially appreciate responses from people who have actually bought camera gear from Taobao/Tmall and had it shipped outside China, rather than just general opinions

Thanks!

Sony A7 IV vs Canon R6 Mark II for long-term use?

Budget: Around $1500–$2500 USD depending on body/lens combination.

Country: Cambodia

Condition: Preferably new, but open to used if it’s from a trusted source and worth it.

Type of Camera: Full-frame mirrorless

Intended use: Hybrid shooting (photo + video)

End use: Mainly personal use, photography as a hobby, possible YouTube/content creation in the future.

If photography: General photography, travel, street, casual portraits, low-light/night shots, everyday shooting.

If video: Tech-style videos, casual cinematic shots, YouTube-style content, handheld shooting.

What features do you absolutely need:

  • Good low-light performance
  • Strong autofocus
  • Center EVF
  • IBIS
  • Great photo + Good video
  • Reliable long-term camera
  • Good ergonomics/build quality

What features would be nice to have:

  • Strong lens ecosystem
  • Third-party lens support
  • Good battery life
  • Water proof or Water resistant

Portability: Medium or Large sized body

Cameras you're considering:

  • Sony A7 IV: I like the modern design, lens ecosystem, third-party lens options, and overall flexibility.
  • Canon R6 Mark II: I’ve heard the ergonomics, usability, autofocus, and overall shooting experience are excellent.

Cameras you already have:
Currently using a Canon EOS 700D with the 18-55 STM kit lens.

What I like:

  • Helped me learn manual settings properly
  • Comfortable to use
  • Makes me experiment more

What I dislike:

  • Weak low-light performance
  • Older autofocus/video system
  • Feels outdated compared to modern mirrorless cameras

Notes:
I’m trying to make a smart long-term decision and would really appreciate honest real-world opinions from people who’ve used either system for a while. I care more about actual ownership experience than spec-sheet comparisons.

MacBook Air Case Dilemma 😭

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide if I should get a hard shell case for my M4 13-inch MacBook Air.

I want to avoid scratches, but I’ve read that hard cases can cause issues like trapping dirt that scratches the aluminum, straining the screen hinges, or messing with heat dissipation since the Air is fanless.

For those who have used hard cases on Apple Silicon MacBooks; Did it actually protect your laptop, or did it cause damage?

I already have a laptop sleeve to protect it but I a thinking of a case too, because I think it looks cool, but im not sure if it is good or not.

Looking for honest pros and cons. Thanks!
