Is she beautiful or what? True, female Goliath birdeaters are indeed the largest spiders on Earth by mass and body length, but this particular girl has amazed me ever since I first saw this photo! The best way to handle a female Theraphosa blondi if you see one is to handle her with your eyes only. If you touch her, she will either hiss loudly or flick urticulated hairs from her abdomen. She does this by rubbing her abdomen with her back legs, and this action sends the urticulated hairs flying straight towards you. If they become embedded, they can cause serious irritation on your skin.
