'To Nowhere In Particular' - Zachary Mullins, Release August 31, 2026

Hi everyone! Excited to share that my debut sci-fi novella, To Nowhere In Particular, releases August 31st.

It follows an automaton navigator whose 63-year job has just ended — and for the first time, he has to decide what to do with a choice that's actually his own. Think retro-futurist, quietly melancholy sci-fi, with a Miyazaki/Little Nightmares kind of atmosphere.

I've had 15 wonderful ARC readers so far, which has led to a few early Goodreads reviews — not a huge number yet, but they've been genuinely positive, and I'd love to grow that list! If you're interested in an ARC or want to preorder, links are below.

Thanks so much for reading this far — happy to answer any questions!

Blurb:
Automation has its place in the world. The eerie thing about it is that it doesn't stop, even when we do.

He has been here for sixty three years. He knows the ship the way you know a room you have never left. The pressure gauge in the aft chamber. The clock that needs winding at noon. The table that needs setting at eight, for people who no longer come.

When his duties fall quiet for the first time, he descends into the ship below his deck — and discovers a world he never knew existed.

He has never thought to wonder why.

He wasn't programmed to.

Room after room. Machine after machine. Each one doing their job in perfect silence. Each one completely alone.

A novella about what lives at the bottom of things. And what happens when, after sixty three years, something finally looks up.

Got My First Review In! ARC is still open, looking to get 2-3 more!

Hey! I just wanted to share something that was pretty cool! I've been trying to promote the best I can, although I'm not very good at that part yet. I've gotten 8 people signed up for ARCs and just got my first review on Goodreads!

I'd like to have ~10 reviews before launch, if possible, I know that's a low number but, just getting one was more than I expected! If anyone would be interested in a short sci-fi novella, hit the links below!

'To Nowhere In Particular' by Zachary Mullins - A Sci-Fi Novella - Aug 31, 2026

Hey all! This is a short sci-fi novella and my very first publication, so I'm really excited but also slightly nervous, but I'm pretty proud of it! Little Nightmares/Miyazaki vibes!

'To Nowhere In Particular' by Zachary Mullins - Sci-Fi/Atmospheric - Aug 2026

Edit: I realize the cover is AI, it's the best I could do at the moment and I didn't realize there were places to get them fairly cheap. I'll update/post again when I have a real one!

Hey all! This is a short sci-fi novella and my very first publication, so I'm really excited but also slightly nervous. It releases on my birthday, August 2! The how this novel came about is kind of mundane, honestly, I'll include the origin story as well! I hope you guys like it!

I Wrote A Book, Now What?

Hey everyone! This whole process has been like a flashbang, so bear with me.

I just finished getting my novella up on KDP — it's not released yet, but I'd love some ARC readers if anyone's interested in a short sci-fi story.

I'll put my origin story below in case anyone wants context!

I'm very out of touch with the bookish side of the internet, but I've come across posts mentioning Goodreads and BookSirens as good places to gather reviews before launch day. That seems to be best practice from what I've gathered, but how do you guys actually go about it? It feels like information overload as a newcomer. So many methods and platforms that all talk to each other and I guess my question is, where do I start?

Origin Story:
I went on vacation with my family to the Smoky Mountains, as we do every year, and visited a Ripley's Museum that had an exhibit I thought was just aesthetically incredible. It was a model submarine with tiny robots inside each compartment, all doing their own little jobs in complete isolation from each other. I showed the photo to my wife, we talked about it, and something clicked. I took inspiration from Miyazaki films and atmospheric games like Little Nightmares, spent a few sleepless nights writing, and somehow a little book appeared.

Thank you all in advance!

Advice! Vibecoder Attempting to Turn Real Coder

Hey all, I've been diving hard into AI, specifically Claude and its spawned many positive things in my life; I changed jobs and tldr the new one is awesome. I've become the AI guy and have built many tools and workflows for our teams.

This inspired me to work on a personal project and its actually been going really great. I, however, dont like not understanding entirely, the things im doing. I've always had an interest in programming but have never had the time or the discipline to learn myself.

Changing jobs has been the best thing thats happened to me in a long time and my work has really brought back the desire to really learn this.

My question is has anyone else here followed a similar path? What resources did you use, where did you start, etc.

There are so many paths its almost overwhelming but I do think I want to lean more towards backend things and maybe one day become a real programmer. I've had AI build me a curriculum with resources but I'd like to hear from anyone who's done a similar thing.

Thanks in advance!
