So Ill Torque Review
I was hunting for a new pair of shoes and they had some Torques for sale at the wall at my gym.
I’d only ever heard garbage things about their shoe lineup (longevity, poor fit, influencer shoes, etc…) the lady there said “they redesigned the shoes, but they have a very rocky history”
I was going to go with Evolv again, but I did some research about So Ill’s big ground-up redesign. What got me was a YouTube video of one of the founders admitting that they had a terrible reputation for shoes and needed to start over, so they brought in Fred and some proper designers.
I just kinda figured that So Ill would have needed to make some MASSIVE changes to avoid tanking an already floundering product, so I decided to buy them as the torques looked slightly aggressive for my style of climbing and were supposed to be comfy
After a few weeks: Honestly I’m extremely happy with the shoes. Fit like a glove, very comfortable, stiff and sticky for small foot chips, can keep them on for a whole session with very little fatigue. Not that it matters, but they’re pretty sleek looking too.
The velcro strap can wrap around the toe section or closer to the heel to give you more support where you need it. TBH never moved the strap at all, I just keep it towards the heel side.
Vibram rubber great as always, slight downturn.
Only con is those shoes are a sweat suit, though that’s not really something specific to those shoes as far as problems are concerned.
TDLR very happy with the shoes
