Deaf with autism experiences

I am curious about those who are deaf with autism. I have never been diagnosed but had been frequently asked if I was. My son on the other hand had a bunch of nurses and doctors saying there a high chance he may be autistic. He's non verbal but does sign some words and gesture.

I would like to hear your experiences, advice, so I can be mindful and know what to look for.

All is greatly appreciated

Advice on healthy eating habit

I have a 6 years old autistic child who is extremely picky about what to eat. I'm at a lost

He would eat pizza, pb&j, small variety of fruits, rare occasion carrots, wolf brand chili, ANY sweets, and Ramen- cooked or not. At least he eat some healthy stuff but it's a roll of a dice sometimes. I don't want to keep switching whenever he flat out refuse what ever I made first. Sometimes he doesn't want to eat at all so I'm alarmed.

I grew up poor so I didn't have the luxury like he does now but I don't want him to think I'll let him do whatever he please. I'm trying to set up a healthy eating habit, 3 meals a day with snacks.

I understand he's 6 and trying not to be hard on him. But I'm at a lost on how to get him to eat when he fights me on it. I tried putting him in time out but he very stubborn.

Does anyone know how or have advice to go about having their autistic children to eat regularly?

AIO for getting mad at my husband for underreaction?

My husband's car was stolen a month ago, but we didn't find out until this passed Monday. We have a pretty good idea who might have stolen it, but we don't have any kind of proof whatsoever.

The car was parked at his childhood home and been there for 5 years. I had asked him if he ever planned on moving it here, but things always came up: time he doesn't have, the money to tow it, and the lack of space. I understand, so I left it alone. But I know he loved that car and have fond memories.

Now here's the clustered mess that anger me so. It's the situation that surrounds this. His aunt was aware and didn't bother to say anything until the last week that my husband mother was staying with us. But EVEN THEN she didn't bother to say anything during the week until my husband confronted her at this house, after he looked in where it was supposed to be parked. While he went to check he can hear his two relatives not so subtle whispering, "he going to see, he going there!" Then pretend not to notice when he returned. When confronted, all his mom had to say, "Well, I'm scared." When asked who might've taken it, they made a racist remark. He informed him that he calling the cops and told his relatives he just done with them and going no contact.

Welp, the cop essentially wash their hands and said there is nothing they could do since the car has not been seen by any cameras, the time it took to report it and the area, specifically this house has been known to have crackhead traffic.

We suspected it was that drug addicted relative who stayed with the aunt, who turned the house into a brothel and drug den. Also has a history of stealing to fuel their addiction. But again, we don't have proof.

I was so flabbergasted and angry for my husband the way this whole situation was handled and the people how they treated him.

My husband seemed to brush it off, which shocked me further. I understand this was the environment he grew up with and just how it is, but I figured after being away from it for some time, he would've raised hell. Especially the car he loved. We talked, and basically, he said it's not worth getting a stroke over. I've been around these kind of things but this was too much especially when family treated him like garbage. I felt like I might've had an overreaction point of view since this has nothing to do with me, so AIO?

My child was reject from TSD

We applied our soon to be 1st grade child to go to the deaf school here in Texas. However we received a rejection letter due to his previous school saying he's violent, hitting and kicking.

Yes he had issues, he reacts when no one understood or him not getting his way. We sat down with him to explain its not okay and worked with him. I'm not excusing his behavior

In my old town, I've asked if there was deaf kids in this previous school or is there schools nearby who have. But essentially I got the runaround that there isn't but I feel like they were playing cards that benefit them more and I regret not pushing it further.

I eventually took my child out after another issues in regards to his ezcema. They claim it might be contagious. Even though they have a doctor note stating it's not.

I'm frustrated at this since I know he will benefit greatly with other Deaf children. I recently learned of texas hand and voices, I will utilize when we relocate.

The main one is how can I appeal to TSD to give my child another chance? What can I do to fix this?

I understand why they reject, at the same time I figured they may understand that a deaf child in a hearing school is bound for extreme frustration. But I know it's not as simple as that.

Any thoughts is greatly appreciated.

BS all over the place

I am hard of hearing with deteriorating hearing lost. Last I check it was a 65 to 70% lost.

So I'm working at this job that is obviously itching to get rid of me. But I've held on out of spite plus I really need this job since it's my first 15 an hour job.

Sound dumb, I apologize, but I'm not the greatest at navigating the customs in the hearing world. It also doesn't help that I have the type of face that say it's all BS. I tried to be friendly, be open to conversation and courteous. But it was all worth nothing if i so much make the wrong face or not doing what socially expected. Trust me I tried all I could. But eventually keeping it up became more work with little to no positive results. So I opted to just be myself.

Now the job I'm working is basically fine dining with banquet event. I started as a dishwasher and worked my way up. I was proud of myself at first but now it seemed to be spoil by the negativity the people give to me. I don't have any kind of respect what so ever, not that I expected any in the first place but folks here seemed to show me I'm not welcome here at all or downright hate me. I overheard the sous chef at the time arguing with the head chef about being against me working in the kitchen. Now sous chef is head chef. She stuck me in food truck and the whole kitchen seemed to be happier and intentionally check if im pissed or not.

I'm angry that I'm consistently being treated this way: an inconvenience to be shoved out of the way. But on the bright side at least I don't have to worry about people intentionally being in my way or forcing me to sit on my hands. I'm surprise but not surprise that I haven't been fired yet. As long as I'm actively working and being there on time, there is no reason to.

Not only that but at home, I have a MIL who consistently lied and played the helpless victim. What's worst, she watching the kids atm because daycare is too expensive and I can't trust my family to watch them. We are making plans.

My husband is learning signs but sometimes he throw a sign out that tells me he not taking this seriously. He wants me to teach him everything but I do not have the time or the patient to do so. He says he been researching but I'm letting time tell me that.

Overall I'm just done. It's frustrating and astounding how the world is. I started asking myself, am I crazy? Am I overreacting? Is this how it's going to be for the rest of my life? We are making plans to move to a city that more open to the deaf population but I'm well aware that the grass is not necessarily greener.

Thank yall for reading my vent, I'm trying to remind myself that there's genuinely goodness out there but my faith is rotting. I'm debating to write everything to HR about what I endured during my 2 years but I feel like that going to do nothing.

How to make people take me serious

Sorry if this does not make sense. I notice people noticing my behind and it tend to make them blow me off.

It took me a minute because I never been around this kind of thing.

I had one manager talking/ make fun of about how big it is and the way I walked. Another guy I used to talk to kept mentioning how the ladies would be jealous and are, I thought he was trying to boost my ego or something so ignored it. On other occasion, this same guy implyed that all I'm good for is to lay on my back. I had women tried so hard to pick on me and tried to get my attention to get a reaction but luckily I've been around the block. But regardless, I'm in a situation that no matter what I do they assume and dismiss me because I'm not intelligent enough.

I feel like this is a long shot and I plan to get a different job. But in a situation where the woman had a ridiculous body shape that appealing in the eyes of a beholder but the twist it can be sexualized and dehumanizing at a work setting how can the woman defend herself against it? What worst if she have a hearing disability?

Normally, I would ignore it but if this is going to be common for many job I want the skills to defend myself without coming off as emotional, bitter, and vindictive.

Folks intentionally mumbling around me

This is a thing with me at work. I got senior coworkers who do this, but now I'm noticing it with newbies too. I confronted one of the newbies saying something and ask her what ups, she put on a fake smile and said just saying hello.

The question I'm asking is more towards the HoH: did anybody else experience this? I'm not even annoyed anymore just dumbfounded or something. I have not seen anybody do it with anybody else and I'm well aware of the stipulations that I'm faking with my hearing.

This is around prep/cook staffs, idk if that important. I'm comfortable confronting people but only if i caught them at the right time. No one got balls to admit what theyre doing to my face. But I am curious to read anybody else's situation similar.
