Question for the MM+ : Audio Popping/Crackling?

Still fairly new to my MM+ (which I LOVE) but ever since I got it, I notice some minor audio popping/cracking/crackling upon boot up / shut down and navigating around some stuff like that. I searched and found a recent thread on this sub about audio issues 'during' games (which I haven't noticed) and that seems to be an 'overclocking' issue (still not sure what that is), so wondering if this might be the same thing? Is this a common MM+ thing, or just mine?

(running OnionOS as well - which I love!) Thanks in advance.

Replacement lenses for old Frogskins

I have an older pair of Oakley Frogskins sunglasses. I purchased them in 2014 (they could be older) and I bought them to replace a pair I bought in 1993! I loved those so much, but the frame eventually cracked and needed a replacement. I love these ones as well.

I noticed that with the current ones I have, the lens coating (I am guessing 'iridium') is starting to peel off by the nose side, and its getting worse.

Wondering about replacement lenses. I don't know the exact version of Frogskin I have (I am guessing its "24-305") as that's whats on the inside of the frame, but there is other info there as well: (24-305 55 17 133) not sure what all of these numbers mean.

I keep seeing this model number for Frogskins (OO9013) for replacement lenses but there is nothing on mine with that number.

I live in rural Canada (so there are no Oakley stores, or Sunglass Huts or anything like that remotely close to me), so I am limited to shopping online.

Suggestions for replacement lenses for my Oakleys? I've seen ones for $100 ish (Canadian) on Amazon (which was about the price of the glasses) and I have seen them for $10 on Ali Express, etc.

But I don't even know what size I would need to get for mine.

Suggestions or advice?

Sega Saturn on MM+ ?

Does anyone play Sega Saturn roms on your MM+ ?

As someone brand new to emulation and retro handhelds (with only a handful of roms), I have heard that the Sega Saturn system is hard to emulate? I never played the Saturn (I missed that) so I don't have nostalgia for it, etc, but know there are some good games on it, so I don't want to miss out.

Just wondering about Saturn roms and emulation (and the MM+ !) in general.

DOS Games on MM+

Wondering about DOS (early PC games) on the MM+?

I am still new to my device (and retro handhelds in general) and still only have a handful of roms and am thoroughly enjoying playing them. I LOVE the MM+ and retro video games!!

In my research for roms to get, I keep running into various dos/pc games that I played in the 80s, and I know they 'can' be played on various retro handhelds, but wondering about the MM+

I know there are things out there like DOSbox (not sure what that is 'yet'), but before I dive into this rabbit hole to research, wondering if DOS (or older pc games) are worth playing (trying to emulate) on MM+? Is it confusing? Hard to set up? Just not worth it? Easy/fun to play?

We mostly played Sierra point and click games (Kings Quest, Police Quest, Monkey Island, the Larry series...) and touched on some stuff like Wizardry, etc, and I would love to dip my toe back into these at some point. Or maybe I should wait and try these on a different handheld if/when I upgrade?

And if I should get into these games on the MM+ ... any suggestions for retro DOS games to play??

How Do You Start a 'New' Game?

After being away from gaming for almost 30 years, I am back with my MM+ and LOVING it!!

Basic question for you all (which might seem odd), but I am going to post it anyway, as of all of the gaming communities, I find the MM+ to be the most helpful/positive.

What do you do when you start a new game? Example, I decided to start some games over the past week, that I never played before (Life Force on NES, Kirby on GameBoy, a tennis game on GameBoyColor and Pocky and Rocky on SNES). All look amazing and I really wanted to play them.

Since I haven't played them in the past, I was sort of lost. I didn't get very far in Life Force...I got smoked in Tennis...wasn't really sure what was going on in Pocky&Rocky and I was lost in Kirby! I think the Kirby one frustrated me the most, as I hadn't even heard of a Kirby game (until recently) and I know it was aimed at young audience, and I really wanted to get into this franchise, but I had no idea of the controls and what to do.

So in cases like this, what do you do when you start up a new game? Look for the instruction book online? Watch some YouTube videos - walkthroughs, reviews, etc? I mean, other games like Super Mario and Bubble Bobble, I just jumped in and started playing as I could remember it all from back in the day and had no isses.

Just curious as I want to enjoy games I never played before (like Pocky and Rocky and ALL of the Kirby games...), so want to know how to get started. Thanks!

MM+ and Final Fantasy? Where to start?

So I have never played a Final Fantasy game. Ever.

I grew up in the 80s (I was the perfect age when the NES arrived (11 years old) and we played that, and then the SNES before moving to the PS1. However, in all of my years of gaming, I never played a Final Fantasy game (or rpg, for that matter). I bought FF VII for the ps1 simply for the box cover art, but never got into it. When i started, I had no idea what I was doing and quickly gave up (and probably went back to FIFA, GTA, Tomb Raider or Crash Bandicoot).

However, now that I have discovered emulation and my MM+ I want to dip my toe into the Final Fantasy series.

So where do I start? From the beginning and go chronologically? I know there is some confusion in numbering (from Japanese vs other versions? 3 is 6, or something?)

Or should I jump in elsewhere? Again, this is coming from someone who has NO idea about "HP" points (is that 'health' or 'hit' points?) and no idea about the 'combat' in these types of games...but I want to try! I have been doing some research into rgps, and know there are tactical, turn based, action rpgs, and I have no idea what any of them are, but figure its time to try.

Thoughts/Suggestions?

Game Boy Advance Games & MM+

Ok, so I totally missed the GBA. By the time it launched (2001), I was finished college, starting a career, family, etc, and hadn't played video games in a couple of years when it came out (I had a PS1, but that was the last system I played). I knew of the GB (that came out when I was in high school, but totally missed the GBC and GBA).

Fast forward to a couple of months ago, when I found out about retro handhelds and emulation, and got myself a MM+ (which I LOVE) and began researching other systems that I never heard of (I mainly bought it to emulate NES, SNES, Genesis, etc), and then I find out about the GBA and its amazing library (by watching some best of YouTube videos). That system was awesome and it looks unreal on the MM+ !!!!

That being said, wondering if there are any must play GBA games that you recommend I try?! I am open to anything: platformers, shmups, sports, rpgs, beat em ups, puzzle...whatever you think would be worth checking out. Thanks!

Zelda Games: Where to Start on the MM+?

Ok, so I never played a Zelda game. I grew up on the NES, and tried the original Zelda at a friends house, and gave up after a few mins and went back to platformers (Mario) and other games.

Now that I am new to the retro handheld world and have my new MM+, I want to play a/some Zelda games to see what I missed. Suggestions as to where I should start? At the beginning? Or somewhere else? I have been emulating the systems I had experience with (nes, snes, gb, gbc, gba, n64, gamecube) and I've never played the DS, 3DS or Switch, so I would like to avoid those...

Suggestions for where I should jump in to get into these games?

'Commando' (1985) Style Games?

One of my favorite games growing up was Commando. I think it was what got me hooked on video games and I just thought it was amazing when I saw it in the arcade, and even though I wasn't good at it (I was only a young kid), I LOVED it.

Now that I found emulation, wondering what other retro video games are out there like Commando that I should also check out and add to my library?

(I guess it would be considered a top-down run-and-gun?)

Beginner/Basic Dungeon Crawler Retro Video Games?

After a long break from video games, I am back playing them once I found out about handheld devices and emulation! I am LOVING being back and researching games to play.

One genre I never played (or even knew about), was 'dungeon crawlers' (only started to hear about them while watching YouTube videos of retro games to check out.

That being said, are there some 'basic' (I mean, pure beginner-friendly) dungeon crawlers that I could check out? To see if I like the genre?

AND, is a 'rogue-like' a dungeon crawler? I didn't know that was a thing and have no idea about those.

Granted, growing up in the early 80s, my best friend's older brother had an IBM PC and used to play the original Wizardry game (we never played it...but we watched him play it a few times). So maybe I had witnessed a dungeon crawler, if it is one?

Wondering if this is a genre I have missed, and should check out a few games to see if I enjoy them...

Basic Beat 'em Ups?

Back into gaming after a 25+ year break! I was never into Beat em Ups but want to give some a try, however, I am not interested into anything too complex and memorizing combos, etc, at my age (mid 50s).

Any suggestions for fun, simple retro Beat 'em ups for an intro into this genre?

I am thinking of getting back into Double Dragon and stuff like this? I was too old for any TMNT games back in the day, but would love to play some of those now (I have heard there are a few that are decent?) or any stuff like that.

Looking for retro systems (8-bit up to psx) (and including arcade suggestions. Thanks!

MM+ and Vectrex Emulation?

Hey All.

Apologies in advance for the question (again, I am new to all of this and have only owned my MM+ for 15 days now...and LOVING it more each day), wondering if anyone has emulated Vectrex on the MM (or handhelds in general??)

I LOVED the Vectrex game system back in the day (I don't want to date myself) but I never owned one but know a couple of folks that did, and LOVE "vector" style games. I have read (in passing) with my research in retro gaming that I think Vectrex can be emulated, so wondering if anyone has had success on it with the MM or MM+ (or if its better suited to a different device/screen, etc). Just curious.

Any if anyone has any other 'vector' style games (that weren't on the Vectrex) I am open to any games in this style. Thanks!

Running Pico-8 on RG35XX H on Knulli Scarab (not emulation)

I am still brand new to all of this (my rg35xx h was my first handheld that I received about a month ago) and I only moved from stock OS to Knulli Scarab last week! (very pleased I got it set up and going, and only getting used to its settings now)

I've watched enough videos on pico 8 to know that I want to set it up natively (vs emulation) and i paid for the $15 Pico 8 and have the downloads, but wondering if anyone has had success with Knulli Scarab setting it up?

Or even previous versions of Knulli (not sure what they were, as my first/only version is Scarab).

Thanks in advance!

Is it too late to join the Pokemon train?!

As someone only back to video games after almost 30 years (and having my MM+ for just over a week!!), I am slowing adding some roms and figuring out what retro games I want to get into.

I never owned a GameBoy and was almost finished college when the first Pokemon game came out, and have never played a minute of ANY Pokemon games (or collected a card), and neither did any of my friends. I heard about the Pokemon GO craze about 10 years ago, but now that I am getting back into video games (and retro games) I feel like i am missing out. I mean, I honestly have never played games like these (including rpg's) or any games with HPs (are those Hit Points...or Health Points) so not used to that style of game (or I think its called 'combat')?

I figure its about time I try one out? Of course, I keep hearing about Pokemon Unbound (which I know now is a rom hack, which I didn't even know what those were a week ago!)

Thoughts? Too late for an older gamer to sink my teeth into the world of Pokemon and open myself up to another genre that I might love?!

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Tips?

Running Pico-8 on MM+ (not emulation)

I am still brand new to all of this (got my MM+ 8 days ago, and am loving it!), installed OnionOS a couple of days ago, and finding it great and still getting used to it and the settings.

I have always enjoyed Pico-8 games (on my browser) and know you can play it on retro handhelds and now I want to use it on my MM+. I watched several videos on setting it up (as I heard a couple of folks say its much better to play natively vs emulation), so i went ahead and paid my $15 to have it am am ready to go. However, all of the Pico-8 videos are older (at least 2 years old) and one from russ at retro game corps (which is great), is 4 years old. in some of the videos, you have to change a script in json files and another one you have to download tar.gz files to get it working.

So I am wondering with the latest versions of OnionOS and now a bunch of years later, is all of this still accurate? can anyone recommend an updated video (or guide) to get this running natively on my MM+ so I can enjoy all that Pico-8 has to offer on my beautiful MM+ (and not just my browser).

Side Note: for those that run it natively, I am guessing this is where 'splore' is used, and if so (I only heard of splore this week), do you need to buy carts or can you just play them for free in splore? I do want to support some of the Dev of the games that I really enjoy.

Thanks in advance!

My First OS Install: Knulli Scarab + Wifi

Just installed Knulli Scarab on my rg35xxH last night! Going good thus far - still trying to figure out all of the details - and can't get wifi to work, but all good so far. Proud that I have it working!

More Details:

So less than 2 months ago, I hadn't played a video game in almost 30 years, never heard of roms/bios, etc, and wanted to play some retro games, and here I am now, with two retro handhelds, a handful of roms and ready to go!

I've never flashed anything on a sd card, or anything like that, and after spending a lot of time on this sub, i decided to go with knulli...(then based on so many other posts), was going to go with muOS and then decided to go with Knulli Scarab. I followed one of Russ' (retrogamecorps_ older YT guides and seem to be in business! I have a handful of roms loaded up (I went with the 2 sd card system) and played games ALL last night!! I still need to figure out all of the settings in Knulli (like I don't even know how to get to the Main Menu after finishing a game!), or what a hot key is!, but that will come soon.

I was hoping to get wifi working (it seemed so easy when folks do it on the YT tutorials), but it didn't work for me.

I still might try out muOS eventually, but am super happy with it thus far!

Any tips/tricks...pass them on!

My MM+ has finally arrived!!! (its Grey...but looks white in the pic, and I LOVE it) I haven't even put the stock (non-branded sd card) in to turn it on yet. I have a branded 64g SD card and am ready to install OnionOS!

I've got a handful of Roms, so here we go!

Anyone recommend a good OnionOS youtube beginner tutorial that you liked to help me get set up and rolling?!

Horse Racing Games?

Any good suggestions for horse racing games on retro consoles to check out?

With the Kentucky Derby over and the Triple Crown happening, I am more interested in horse racing.

I used to play "Horse Racing" on our Intellivision in the early 80s and we loved it. I have done some research and have seen some gdecent ones for the Famicon but they are in Japanese and with no translation, the reviews were to skip.

So any suggestions for decent retro horse racing games (in English or with translations), that I could check out?

How "Safe" is the stock sd card?? (virus?)

Sorry folks - new to all of this - with my first handheld (rg35xxh) only purchased a little while ago (still using stock os and planning on upgrading soon (this weekend), but since I am just starting and have a handful of roms to date (about 10) and ZERO bios...wondering how 'safe' is it to plug the stock sd card that came with the unit into my computer and grab the bios files (I plan on leaving the roms and collect my own eventually).

I have watched many a YouTube video by folks who do it, and yet I have seen several folks on various retro handheld subs say you should never put one of those cards in your personal computer.

We only have the one computer and I don't want to put it at risk but plugging it in and grabbing some files to use. Should I not bother and try and source these myself or just do it?

Again...new to all of this so please go easy on me.
