Ready to build out my Overlander project.

So I have a 1974 FJ40 that’s stock other than a RTT on a rack I made, and I swapped in FJ60 gears and brakes. I wanted something else to add to my little fleet, that I can beat up off-road. After some trading around I ended up with a 1986 Toyota pickup, 5.3 gen 3 LS, SM465, NP205, solid axle swapped, LSD/locker. Great frame, cab was pretty rough, glass smashed (even sunroof), doors and B-pillars caved, fenders crunched, even sunroof smashed, driveshaft ruined, bunch of ecu codes, keys and wipers non functional, etc... I pulled the windshield and realized the windshield frame was rusted and the cowl was rotten on both sides.

A ton of work later: welding in lots of new metal, ripping out old wiring, cleaning out all the mice, bullets and random junk, installing parts, new and used body panels, body work, swapping glass, fixing engine, learning to wrap… Finally I’m ready to start the actual build. I want to do a partial enclosure to keep some camping and recovery gear dry. I need a spare and a fridge. It’ll be a weekend warrior, I work full time and have a kiddo. I still have the 40 series. I’ve done maybe 300 miles on it and other than needing a double cardan driveshaft and a tune it seems to do pretty good. It drives like a 300hp tractor.

Heading to Flathead lake MT. Advice for whitefish and other fish?

Heading to Flathead MT (USA) next week. We do have a charter scheduled for going for the deep lake trout. But the house has a dock and kayaks and I’m bringing a medium travel pole and a reel. I want to fish (for whitefish or bass etc..) from the dock/kayaks. Any advice?

I ordered a pack of 3/8 oz jigging spoons. My reel is spooled with 30lb braid and a 10lb floro leader. I’m going to bring some hooks and plastics for bass and some trusty rooster tails. What else?!

Picture for attention, catching bluegill floating off my dock in VA.

Positive Reinforcement VS Bribes

My 3yo son is a good kid but like any kid can have off days. We’ve instilled into him that if he’s good then good things will happen to him. With mom it’s a piece of candy or a cookie. My go to “treat” is a stash of hotwheels cars (mine from years ago and new ones @ $1.25 each at dollar tree), occasionally a drive in my off-road truck or fishing from the dock.

He’s started to ask for treats, a lot, specifically hotwheels, specifically around being at daycare. He’s been asking first thing when we get up, (he knows that’s not protocol), or even after he’s been naughty at school (we explain why not).

I’m wondering if anyone has advice to keep this motivation to be good, but not beg for presents. I feel like I’m bribing him to be good and he honestly doesn’t need that. This morning on the way to school he was sweetly singing “I’m going to be good today” then put in a request for a specific car he wanted if he was good all day. 🫣

There have been interesting outcomes… The other day the “treat” he asked for was to inspect my spare tire which I happily agreed to 🤣

I rode until Vans Potomac Mills closed down in ‘04. Then got into BMX. Been back on the board a few weeks.

I’m exhausted in the clip but got some sketchy BS 50-50 fakie and slash grinds and half cab rock and roll things. Learned to drop in fakie and nose stall and starting to crooked and 5-0.

I cannot Front Side grind. I really hurt my foot trying and was out of commission for over a month haha.

If you need help getting the CKP crank cam position relearn (aka Case) on a swapped car - specifically one that has a non standard trans or paired down PCM.

I had to build a little temporary harness to get the PCM to think I applied the brake and had truck in park.

My truck has a SM465 so a lot of the trans related pins on Blue side C1 aren’t used.

If you need more details view this post I made on Mud.
