Today I migrated my Omen 16 to Cachy OS from Windows 11 (First time Linux user)

RAM: 32Gb // GPU: Nvidia RTX 5070 // Ryzen 9 // 1TB SSD

Is my first Linux experience. I only used it for a couple of hours. But the improvements are just awesome. I personally have 0 idea of how to install all the drivers and stuff in Linux PCs, but with some prompts to Gemini I got all solved with 0 trouble. For example, in Win 11 with Zen Browser, Task administrator and PDF opened I was using like 12GB of RAM and my CPU was on 65°C. Now, with Cachy with Firefox opened, task administrator, and terminal I was using 3.8 GB of RAM and my CPU was at 45°C and at 3% USE!!.

I had no problem with fan speed (goes as it needs automatically, so better for the laptop), and the keys' combinations for keys' led shine and screen shine goes without trouble + I can switch energy modes + graphic modes.

But what did me a brain explosion was the KDE Connect app. That shit humiliated so hard and without mercy the Window's Link App. Being able to fully control my laptop by my smartphone and sending links, archives and the things I have on my phone clipboard so directly and without trouble is just awesome.

So Linux people: A new hand touches the beacon.

Today I got an eye on one of my Messor barbarus queens I caught this last year autumn and I could appreciate that a nurse is in pupae state. I've been 5 years without antkeeping, so it is beautiful to restart the hobby since 0.

Specs (laptop models): 32 RAM, Nvidia 5070, Ryzen 9, 1Tb SSD. Currently using Win 11 Pro.

To put in context my personal case. I'm an agri-food engineering student. I'm doing my practice period at the Valencian Institute of Agronomical Research. I don't play anymore videogames but I wanted some beefy laptop to be able to AutoCAD, Octave, DiaLux, CYPE engineering and more programs of Microsoft Office I used on the degree referring to engineering word. And I like a lot the Omen Gaming Hub options to switch between energy consumption and turning On/Off the GPU for getting that extra battery hours + win energy saver mode (gets very clunky this way, but I get like 4-6h of battery powered autonomy).

I have friends who work as programmers and speak to me very nicely about Linux based OS. In performance, well-being, now is compatible with almost everything and is more energetically efficient than Windows + all the open-source programs available, which are very good in performance. So I'm asking if it's worth it to migrate. I didn't use a different OS, so pls illustrate me with your knowledge.

Hi! Yesterday I got this lil fella. I didn't name him yet but surely I'll put a dumb name as I do with every pet I have. Alfonso or Manolo seems funny to me (typical Spaniard old man name). He still young, hatched this year (on his ID ring).
