Has anyone gotten into college or university after doing the GED?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from people who have real experience with this.
I didn’t finish high school due to personal circumstances, and I’m now considering doing the GED as an alternative pathway. My goal is to study Cybersecurity / IT, ideally starting at a college and then progressing to university later.
My parents are currently unsure about this route and are asking for proof that it actually works, especially in South Africa and internationally.
I wanted to ask:
- Has anyone here done the GED and successfully gotten into college or university?
- Is it accepted for IT / Cybersecurity pathways?
- Did you need additional steps like foundation programmes or evaluations?
- Would you recommend this route compared to going back to high school?
Any real experiences or advice would really help me understand if this is a solid pathway or not.
Thank you 🙏
18 Years Old, Considering the GED for University Applications (US & Other Countries)
Hi, I’m currently considering taking the GED as part of my academic pathway, and I’m applying to colleges in the United States and possibly other countries. I’m originally from South Africa, and I’ve had some changes in my education journey that led me to explore alternative options like the GED.
I wanted to ask how life tends to go after completing the GED, especially in terms of applying to university and adjusting to that next stage. I’ve done some research already, but I still find myself overthinking things a bit.
It would really help me to hear from others who have taken the GED and gone on to college or university ,how did things turn out for you, and what was the transition like?
Bro 😭if you dont like iceman we dont care bro stop posting it on this subreddit
Every song you hate is a song i love.
It’s kinda crazy what artists go through when an album drops
Crazy to think an artist can spend 2–3 years making an album just for people to rate it a 6/10 an hour after it drops. Especially with Iceman coming soon, you already know the internet is about to dissect every lyric, beat, feature, and rollout decision instantly.
The album’s gonna get loved, hated, overanalyzed, clipped for Twitter debates, and used by struggling YouTubers farming reactions and hot takes for views. One person’s calling it a classic, another’s saying Drake fell off before they even sit with the music for a full day.
Then months later people switch opinions anyway 😭
Must be hard being an artist at that level knowing your work turns into public discourse the second it releases.
Can anyone share their story on how they almost couldnt study abroad due to a tough situation.
A situation like documents or something else.

Hello everyone i just need words of encouragement nothing much
So my parents changed my surname after school due to reasons I had to learn recently which is something I cant even share that's how complicated it is. So I had to change my high school certificate to have my new surname on it and the conversion is having time like its been 2months and I need to apply to university and time is ticking. I cant apply where I live because my parents are foreigners so we are planning to apply overseas we have connections and I had to do my passport and ID in my parents home country. I been praying for God to watch over my life and make sure things come out in time. I did the St Jude prayer for 9 days and nothing has came out i just heard that the person is working on it and that's all. I been through this so many times with my personal documents. Im still pushing i just need words of encouragement right now. Thanks.
