First steps?

I 69f am seriously considering divorcing my husband 72m of 46 years. He is hostile towards me and is gone most evenings at club meetings, etc. I haven't loved him for years. Leaving I could do by moving in with my brother or oldest son but that doesn't really move me toward a solution. Money is all tied up in retirement funds and the house. I want him to sit down with me and work out a financial solution but he absolutely refuses to. Did you folks work out some of the money issues first or did on of you just pack up and leave? At my age, this is scary but I am so damned miserable here.

Does anyone have a great idea for a family-reunion prize?

OK, hive-mind, I am seeking one really great idea. As prizes for an upcoming family reunion, I have decorated little wooden boxes and labeled them with certain categories. For the oldest woman, oldest man, and youngest baby, I am including a birthday candle for their next birthday cake. For the longest married and the newlyweds, I am including a one dollar coin to flip to settle any future arguments.

I cannot, however, think of anything to give the person who traveled the farthest to attend. The boxes are 2" x 3" with a hinged lid like a little treasure chest. The sides are probably about 1/4" thick so I need something that will fit in a small space. Each box will also have a semi-precious stone heart since we love and treasure every one of them.

What should I put in the box for the long-distance traveler? TIA.

AITAH for making an issue of sloppy handwriting?

I am scheduling cataract surgery. Today I was emailed a link to some documents I needed to sign. The blanks in it were filled with handwritten detals. That writing was so sloppy, I couldn't read it. I sent an email in response stating that. I expect a neater version soon. Was that over the top??

Fireworks

Am I the only one disappointed in Sugar Land's lukewarm response to America's 250th anniversary? The only big show was at Constellation Field. If you didn't shell out for tickets and parking, there wasn't much to see. Highway 90 was packed with folks waiting to see the show for free The fireworks were not shot high enough to have any impact and the show was their typical post game display --nothing special. We usually watch from the Smart Financial Center parking lot but didn't happen. I just felt like Sugar Land could have put a little more effort into a celebration.

AIO to grandson's change in attitude

I have one grandchild, a boy who just turned 13. We live about ten minutes from him. His parents divorced in 2025 and his father (my son) has 50/50 custody. My son and I are very close. And I thought my grandson and I were very close but that seems to be changing. Last Thanksgiving, his father asked him to write letters to all the people in his life for whom he is thankful. I was not among them. That hurt me deeply but I didn't say anything. These days, when I see the grandson, he is rude to me and seems to avoid any and all conversation. This is a real change from years past where we had many adventures, inside jokes, and special activities. I don't remember anything that I might have done to upset him. I am at a loss and don't know what to do. Is this normal on any level?
