Finding prescribers who actually understand MJ as a lifetime med

So I’ve been on MJ for about 4 months. I have been “dieting” for my whole life and the only time I was at a normal weight was when I was in my late teens eating 1000 calories a day and burning 1000 calories at the gym (I didn’t know any better at that time).

MJ has given me so much mental freedom and I finally feel like a normal person around food. I’m about 5kg from my first goal, but could stand to lose another 5kg after that.

I’ve seen 2 GPs and asked them about their thoughts on Mounjaro long term. Both of them want me to get off it once I hit my goal, even though I told them that I see this as a long term, forever kinda deal.

I really want to find a GP who is supportive of being on this medication long term. Im happy to go with online options or a in person GP in Melbourne. What I want to avoid are steep costs. I’m click counting 5mg from a 15mg pen and not paying for the GP appointments. If I go with online providers how much could I expect to be paying with them?

What positive effects have you noticed not related to appetite?

Just started taking Mounjaro 2 weeks ago. I don’t have a heap of weight to lose and already have good eating and exercise habits, so thought I would start at 1mg and see how I react instead of going straight to 2.5mg. So far so good, no negative side effects and I feel a bit more satiated after meals, I also don’t wake up starving at 3am, which was occurring though my usual calorie deficit.

While the appetite suppression is handy, I was more interested in the medications impact on inflammation and insulin resistance. I’m wondering if there is a minimum effective dose for positive impacts on these aspects? Or is it really just dependent on person to person? Everything I read says 5mg is the minimum effective dose. Can you see benefits in insulin resistance and metabolism with doses much lower? Would love to hear your experiences

When should I take my first jab? Any tips?

My first 2.5mg pen is locked and loaded in the fridge. I’m waiting to take it, but am trying to time it with life events in case side effects are bad. I was thinking of taking it on Sunday night so it doesn’t ruin my weekend. However, I have a few important work events/ trips over the next few weeks that I don’t want to be “sick” for.

In your experiences, what have side effects been like? Should I hold off 3 weeks to get all my work stuff out of the way just in case I react badly? Or are symptoms generally only a couple of days within the jab?
