Switching From Sidecars to Embedded Metadata

Ok so I'm primarily using Digikam for hierarchical tag data, and I've got it set up to write the metadata directly to the file as per the instructions on this page: Setup of Digikam for Windows Compatibility

At some point, I ended up with a small number of files that the metadata got written to sidecars instead - not sure how, but it doesn't really matter, it's fixed now and writing new metadata correctly. However, I'm stuck with these files that have sidecars and I'm not sure how to fix things so the metadata on those sidecars gets embedded into the file and I can safely delete the sidecar, and I couldn't find specific instructions on how to do that when searching, so now I'm here.

Does anyone know how to embed metadata that's on a sidecar into the file? Ideally I'd like to be able to do it in a batch and just get everything in the folder at once, but it's not so large a number that I can't do it individually if I have to. I appreciate the help!

Horror short story collection - one story about a family moving into a furnished house and a braid appeared in their soup, one about a boy on vacation and the moon deposited other kids into his room

Ok! So I read this collection sometime between probably 1995 and 2010 (probably more on the 90s side of that timeline but I could be wrong). It was a collection of horror short stories that I'm pretty sure were meant for children or teens, and I don't recall anything super graphic in it, mostly just creeping psychological horror, existential dread, that kind of thing, though I could be wrong because I only really remember two of the stories.

Story 1: A family that moves often (I feel like they were a military family but I could be wrong) has just moved again and, to their displeasure, they find their new rental house is furnished. They check their contract because they always make sure to rent unfurnished places, but even though they remember having included unfurnished as a contract condition it's now nowhere to be found. They move in and shove all the existing furniture somewhere (I think the garage or attic, don't remember) because they can't get out of the contract and can't get rid of the existing furniture. Creepy stuff happens, I don't remember details, but it becomes clear that there's something fucked up going on and it involves hair and situations occuring in which the family keeps getting set up to swallow that hair (with the implication that this will put the family under control of whatever is doing the creepy shit) including a scene where they make a pot of soup and then as it's being served they fish out an entire long braid. I think there's also a scene where someone wakes up with hair in her mouth and the mom pulls it out with her fingers - I could be wrong about that specific scene but I distinctly remember the braid in the pot of soup scene.

Story 2: A family goes on vacation and the kid gets a room with this wide bay window that overlooks a lake. The moon shines through the window and basically puts another boy into the room (I don't remember if there were multiple beds in this room or if he ends up in the same bed as the original boy). They both go down for breakfast the next day and the parents just act like this kid has always been there and everything is totally normal. This happens again (I'm pretty sure twice more) and the kids chill and play together for a period of time and then the moon starts taking them back at the same rate it dropped them off, and the original boy knows that he's going to be taken next just like them, but the vacation ends and they leave the house the day before that happens. This is POV the boy on vacation and I'm pretty sure I'm missing some significant portions of the story, but I mostly just remember the bit about the moon depositing and then taking away the other boys and the POV boy knowing he's going to be next.

I appreciate the help! :D

How much is reasonable to pay for a dev to make a product with variable priced optional add-ons correctly transmit the final price to a subscription app?

I'm trying to figure out a way to do a subscription box product with customizable and optional add-ons that add cost to the final product in such a way that the total cost is correctly transmitted to a subscription app, and unless there is a solution out there that I haven't found yet, I think I'm going to have to pay for it to get built for me. I don't know how complex this issue will be, though, so I'm not sure what kind of total budget is reasonable to expect for this, so this post is basically to get an idea of what kinds of costs I'm looking at so I can budget appropriately and figure out how soon I can afford to get this done.

The description of what I want to happen is this:

Base subscription box price is $12.

Customer chooses if they want the specialty scone, sweet, or both (+$12) in their box.

Customer selects if they want to add any curd, vinaigrette, tea, additional scones, or additional sweets.

If the customer selected an add-on category, they then choose which flavor(s) they want from that category and how many of each flavor (with between two and 22 flavors available depending on which category). Each add-on adds cost, so, for example, if they want one jar of curd and two additional sweets it would be +$13 +$12 +$12.

Customer checks yes/no about if they have any allergies and, if yes, there is a required box for them to fill out so we can give them an alternative if the regular monthly item has their allergen in it.

All this information is captured, including the add-on costs, and hooked to a subscription. This box isn't available as a single order, it has to be ordered via a subscription.

I've tried various apps in different combinations with each other and I can't find anything that correctly translates the add-on costs to the subscription charge. I'm not tied to any specific method of getting this done, so long as it works, can be edited by someone with basic shopify admin knowledge if we add/subtract add-on options or flavor variants, and doesn't require an ongoing monthly payment from me of more than like $100/month (ideally less). I'm absolutely willing to pay a decent amount to get it set up, which is why I'm making this post because I want to know how much to set aside to get this done.

Is there a product options app that works with subscription apps or vice versa?

My store is trying to sell a "Scone of the Month" box subscription and I am really struggling to figure out how to set up custom product options that will correctly connect an add-on cost to a subscription.

The product flow I want is this:

--

I was easily able to set up the options in both Infinite Options and Easify Custom Product Options, but, as far as I can tell, neither of them can correctly connect the add-on costs to a subscription - you can fill out the options, it'll tell you the cost on the product page, but when you click the subscription button to add to the cart it will always only show the base price.

Is there a solution to this? Apps that play well together? A reasonably priced dev who can make options with add-on cost work with subscription apps? I'm incredibly frustrated and just want this to work.

(Shop info - currently about ~$400-$500/month from online sales, most of our sales are in person but we're trying to get some steady online sales which is why we're trying to push a subscription box. Currently using Seal subscriptions but are willing to switch - our main like for Seal is the ability to increase the subscription discount every X months someone remains subscribed.)

Alienware m18 R2 in restart loop within 5 minutes of logging into windows account even in safe mode, then crashes after reset

Ok, so my laptop started restarting itself within 5 minutes of logging in. I couldn't find an error message or root cause, and after several regular troubleshooting steps failed to give any information or fix the issue, I reset the PC with the "keep my files" option. After that, it stayed on for several hours but then crashed dramatically about three minutes into a discord call (I hadn't even reinstalled everything, discord was one of the first because I have a tabletop via discord tonight and didn't want to run it through my phone). I've just run the reset again, but I'm not hopeful that this will fix it since it didn't last time so I'm hoping to get some advice for further troubleshooting directions to look into.

It's an Alienware m18 R2, device info as follows:

Intel Core i9-14900HX (2.20 GHz)

16 GB Ram

NVIDIA GeForce RTX Laptop GPU 8 GB

954 GB (788 used)

64bit OS

Windows 11 Home Version 25H2

OS Build 26200.8457

Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.304.0

Things I've already tried/notes about that:

Memory Diagnostic says no problems detected, but it did get stuck on a blue screen when I tried to run the extended check. Left it for a couple of hours to eat dinner and see what happened, no movement, so I manually shut it down and moved on.

Pre-reset it still rebooted within 5 minutes of logging in on safe mode, haven't tried that since the most recent reset.

Pre-reset it still rebooted even with the automatic restart on system failure option disabled.

It didn't seem to reboot from the initial login page after restart, only once I'd logged in and reached my desktop.

There are no power issues and it will stay on for ages on the login screen or through the whole memory diagnostic or reset, for example.

There were no newly installed programs - the most recent one was CurseForge for a modded Minecraft server, but it's been running that for almost a month with no issues and nobody else on the server and using the same mods has had problems, and I haven't installed any client side mods. After the first reset, when it stayed on for several hours and then crashed, I had redownloaded Firefox, Chrome, Minecraft, Curseforge, Calibre, and Discord. They'd all been downloaded for several hours just fine, but I hadn't actually run Minecraft yet and the laptop crashed after just a couple of minutes when I did open the discord call for my game tonight.

The Alienware dashboard says it's not overheating and I haven't felt any excess heat or hear my fans kicking up.

I didn't see any driver issues when I checked, but I suppose I could have missed something. There shouldn't be anything new there to be a problem, though.

Event viewer gives me the Error 41 message and nothing else, so very not helpful.

Weirdly enough, the one way I got it to stay on for longer before the reset was using the Fix problems using Windows Update option. I didn't actually expect it to stay on long enough for it to work, I was just walking through the troubleshooting steps, but it was perfectly fine staying on long enough to download on the shitty wifi I'm on (which took much longer than 5 minutes) and ran the reinstall fine...and then proceeded to shut itself down about 5 minutes after the reinstall's restart.

Windows Defender says all good, no issues.

I appreciate any help sent my way!
