UFOs over Ireland

I was looking out for shooting stars in the meteor shower the other day and noticed something strange in the night sky. I know satellites orbit the earth and I saw quite a few of them while looking for shooting stars. However, this particular light wasn’t really moving in a straight path. I thought it was just another satellite but it made what I would say a 45 degree change in its path very suddenly, and then continued on straight until out of sight. Weird. Could this have been a satellite? Has anyone else seen unexplainable things while stargazing?

Why is it so hard to get an entry level job these days?

I have been applying to entry level jobs numerous times over the past few months and its of no avail. I am quite young and have a decent CV with relative experience for jobs that im applying for but 90% of them dont even give you an acknowledgment email. I see similar posts on here talking about it and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. Does anyone else feel the same way? Or is it just really bad luck

PPL groundschool before flying?

Would completing all 9 EASA PPL exams before taking flying lessons a good way to go? Im doing it modular and only have 3 hours total, however I now have 6 of the ground exams finished and currently studying the last 3 with plans to start flying 1-3 times a week once I am finished them all.

Feel like I will never be able to afford flight training

I am 21 years old. I feel like I’ll be saving for years and years before I’m able to go to flight school, and even then, it’s gonna take another 2-4 years before you actually get your first job. I have always wanted to do it and it’s constantly on my mind but at the rate im going I could be in my 30s by the time I have the funds together for it. I am on here seeking advice and seeing if this dream is worth chasing/doable. It sucks having to hold back on spending money to enjoy yourself with friends, go on holidays, restaurants, nights out, travelling etc. How old were you once you started training? What age were you when you got your first job? Any methods or ways you saved money? Any other advice?

Can you become a pilot in the air corps with an O4 in maths?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to apply for the Irish Air Corps Pilot Cadetship in the future, but I got an O4 in maths in my Leaving Cert.

I’m currently working towards my PPL and have completed 3 out of 9 ground school exams so far. I was also thinking about joining the Air Corps first as General Service and then applying for Pilot Cadetship later.

Would already being in the Air Corps, along with having PPL training, make any difference to the maths requirement? Or would I still need to have an O3?

Has anyone here gone down a similar route or knows how strict they are with the entry requirements?

Thanks!

Weather forecast for ATN

Looking at the weather forecast and it doesn’t look great at all. Lot of clouds, wind, and some rain in there. Would be so typical that we get that instead of the nice weather we had for the few weeks recently.

ATPLs after flight school?

Are ATPLs and the knowledge in them important to retain for after flight school? Or is it merely just to see how well you are with all the information involved? I’d imagine it’s quite hard to remember it all afterwards.

PPL before Integrated flightschool?

Does having a PPL give you much of an advantage before going integrated at a flightschool? Will the ATPLs be slightly easier?

How to use Bristol Ground School effectively for PPL?

I find the shear amount of content in each subject on bristol ground school to be very overwhelming, and Im curious to see how you navigated through it. I have some exams passed and done already, but there has to be an easier/better way of learning the groundschool with BGS. There is a huge amount of information for each subject. How did you use it?

Help with PPL subjects MET and POF

If anyone knows any study tips for meteorology and principles of flight, I'd greatly appreciate it. There is an overwhelming amount of complex content in each and I dont know what way I should approach it. Should I hammer down with question banks and make notes on things I get wrong? Or is there a more efficient way of studying these 2 subjects.

How to use Bristol Ground School (BGS) effectively for PPL?

Hi all,

Im learning online groundschool through BGS, although I find its quite content heavy. I find myself constantly writing out notes for every slide. Should I just breifly read the chapter im going over a few times, bang out the banks on the chapter, and focus on ones i get wrong, or is there a better way? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Retained firefighter role

Hi everyone,

I've recently applied for a retained firefighter position in my local area and I'm just looking to hear from anyone who is currently a retained firefighter or has experience in the role.

I have a few questions:

  • What's the pay like for a new recruit?
  • How long did it take from submitting your application to getting called for an interview?
  • Roughly what could a new retained firefighter expect to earn in their first year?
  • Would you recommend getting into the role nowadays?
  • Is there anything you wish you'd known before you joined?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Best ATO to do your PPL in Ireland

Hi folks,

Just curious to see what flightschool would be the best to complete the PPL, particularly down the modular route. My main concern would be aircraft/instructor availability. I aim to fly 1-2 times a week.

More acts?

Is there gonna be more acts announced or what? Do you think we’ll get another fairly popular act/acts announced? I think nelly furtado was announced pretty late last year, although I wouldnt really be expecting anyone that big at this stage.
