Tenerife in late October, where should we stay for a relaxed, less touristy 5-day trip?

I'm planning a 5-day trip to Tenerife with my partner in late October. We're looking for sun and warm weather, but we'd really like to avoid the big tourist/resort areas and have a more relaxed, authentic feel.

Our rough plan is:

  • 3 days doing very little, beach/pool, relaxing, no activities
  • 2 days of excursions, definitely Teide, plus one other day trip
  • We'd probably hire a car for flexibility

I've been looking at Playa San Juan and Alcalá, as they seem to offer the quieter atmosphere we're after, but I'm finding that accommodation there is mostly apartments rather than hotels, so we'd have to cook or eat out more.

I've also looked at Puerto Santiago, but I'm unsure about the water quality there.

Another possibility is Santa Cruz, which seems much more local and interesting, but I'm wondering whether we'd end up spending too much time driving to the south for our beach days. With only 5 days, I don't really want to spend hours in the car just to get some sun.

For anyone who's been to Tenerife in late October:

  • Where would you recommend staying for a relaxed, less touristy atmosphere while still having a good chance of sunshine?
  • Is Playa San Juan or Alcalá a good choice, or would you recommend somewhere else?
  • Is hiring a car worthwhile for such a short trip?
  • How difficult is parking in the different areas?
  • Is Puerto Santiago a good place to stay, particularly regarding the sea/water quality?
  • If you only had two excursion days, would you choose Teide + something else, and what would you recommend?

I'd really appreciate recommendations from people who've stayed in these areas, especially for a late-October trip!

I was stopped from marking, when do I get paid and how can I have confidence in my marking again?

I was stopped from marking by AQA, I won't give details as my post was removed before but basically I was stopped several times, then told I was doing well again but then completely stopped from marking this component ever again. At first it was my marking was too harsh, and I'm not entirely clear but what I am assuming has happened is that my marking may have gone from being too harsh to too generous, or just continued to be too harsh, all the letter said was that I am not consistently meeting the standard. It was very frustrating because I was told I was doing well at other checks.

I am disappointed I was stopped permanently because the only reason I did this was for the CPD as myself and colleagues always find this paper difficult to mark, and yet I learnt nothing from the training other than you have to make a judgement call, but seems that often my judgement is wrong. How can I know now how to prepare my students for this exam after being essentially banned from marking it? I feel like I can't teach it now, because if I can't mark it I clearly still don't get it. I wish they would give more feedback because now I basically didn't learn anything from this experience other than confirming that I cannot mark it.

Also it said I would be paid at the end of the marking series, I still haven't been paid after results day, is this normal?

To the colleague who is showing films already : you suck

We have been told to save films for the last 1, maybe 2 lessons we have with our classes. I have been following this rule because it just looks bad to start showing films every lesson when we don't finish until the 23rd.

To the colleague who decided to start showing films already last week, I hate you. You are making it hard for everyone else. You are making me look like the strict teacher and kids are becoming resentful and it feels like a battle at the start of every lesson to waste 10 minutes arguing why we are not watching a film when your class is. They tell me you even allowed them to choose the film. And I know it's true because I have seen you with a movie on. I gave 3 detentions today for kids chatting back to me. I blame you. If they didn't see other kids allowed to watch films they would have nothing to complain is unfair. School rules only work when all teachers follow them so stop being a lazy dick and actually teach your lessons until we are supposed to. I hope you're on reddit so you see this and realise you suck.

I 36f shared private details of my sex life with a friend and now my partner 38f is very distant. How do I handle this?

Last weekend I met with a friend and talked about some details of my sex life regarding my partner. My partner later asked me what we discussed and I told her honestly. She is now very upset that I shared private details about our sex life, specifically some things about her, that she did not want anyone else to know.

Since then, she has been very distant with me. We only talk about practical things we need to manage the house, but there is no personal conversation, no spending time together, and no physical affection. It has been about 4 days and I am struggling with the atmosphere in the house.

We have already spoken about it once. I apologised and she said she feels it is a serious breach of trust and that there is “nothing I can say” right now.

I understand why she is hurt and I have taken responsibility for it, but I am struggling emotionally with the distance and not knowing how to behave day to day without making things worse. When we are in the same space and not speaking, I find it very difficult not to become upset, which has sometimes made the situation worse.

I am not trying to pressure her to forgive me quickly. I just want to understand what is appropriate behaviour at this stage and how people normally cope with this kind of situation while living together. Mentally I am falling apart and struggling to deal with this. When I get mad I don't have this kind of behaviour, I would rather forgive quickly if I'm going to forgive, or break up if I'm going to break up, but long days of silence just feels punishing to me.

Any advice from people who have been through something similar would be really appreciated.

Has anyone ever used a Teacher Release Voucher from AQA before?

Does anyone know how Teacher Release Vouchers work from AQA? I have been asked to do 2 meetings for standardisation in school hours, but they say they pay for cover with TRVs, however I am still nervous about asking my school for cover for this

I have a Cifas marker placed on my name for insurance fraud. I bought a travel insurance policy for one trip 30 minutes before my flight was cancelled. I made a claim and the claim was rejected and I got a cifas marker.

I had a single trip travel insurance policy so no policy was cancelled as it was already ended by the time I made the fraudulent claim. I was never told the policy was voided either, they just rejected the claim and I only found out about the cifas marker when I was declined from opening a bank account.

Do I have anything to declare with my car insurance? Either now or on renewal? I tried calling my insurer and they just told me they can't tell me about renewal until renewal... And I o ly need to tell them if something has changed such as I have had an insurance policy cancelled or voided. I haven't despite being given an insurance fraud marker. Do I need to do anything here? Do I have any chance of getting car insurance in future?

I have a cifas marker for insurance fraud due to buying travel insurance and making a claim on a flight that was cancelled 30 minutes after buying the policy. It's going to take weeks and months for me to find out if I can get it removed.

I have been declined bank accounts, cannot open any new accounts or get a mortgage, and am unlikely to be able to buy insurance again for 6 years if the mark stays on my name. I cannot get to school without a car due to its rural location. I can only renew my car insurance in August so I will only find out then if I can keep the car or not. Given the deadline to resign is now, what do I do? If I resign and get to keep my car I will be gutted, but if I don't resign and can't keep my car I have just signed up to stay at my school till Christmas with no way of getting there at all. I feel stuck and scared to tell anyone what happened so I don't know what to do

Roads would be mainly cycle paths

I'm in the UK if anyone has any suggestions of brands and models that would work

There is no public transport so I'd need to go both ways

No idea where to even start looking in terms of battery or if this is even feasible, I'm currently quite unfit...

I used to identify as bi but now I wonder if I can use the label lesbian

Pre teen I only ever had one crush, he was a man

Early teens I didn't have any crushes, but I remember watching Pirates of the Caribbean and my friend swooning over Johnny Depp and I thought it was a gross idea to kiss him, I always imagined what it was like to be him kissing Keira Knitely

Mid teens I had a crush on my best friend who was a girl and a girl in our class

Late teens early 20s I fell in love with my friend, he was a man, we never kissed or did anything together but when we stopped talking I felt like I was heartbroken, I never imagined anything with him but I loved him deeper than anyone ever and we did nearly do something once

Mid 20s I had a crush on my best friend, woman

Late 20s I briefly dated a man, lost my virginity to him and had my first kiss. I always felt like sex was a chore but I was turned on by it, so assumed I was bi

In my 20s had sex with one other man, it was ok

I'm now 30s and now have a girlfriend and when I first kissed her I felt high, it felt like suddenly everything made sense and I understood why people love romance so much. I finally understood what people mean when they say fireworks. I get so turned on when I eat her out, way more than when I gave a man a bj. I love her and can't imagine anyone else.

If we ever broke up I can't imagine going back to men. Did I just not realise I was a lesbian before? Or am I still bi but with a preference for women?
