What do you think about using an insta360 x4 to record outdoor drawing instructional videos?

I draw outdoors. It’s commonly called Urban Sketching.

It involves sitting with a sketchbook and look at a building or some scene and drawing it. Often people walk by or sneak up behind to look over my shoulder.

Also, I’m sure I make weird faces when I screw up, or I’m constantly glancing up and down while drawing and it might be interesting to capture that.

I thought an insta360 might be a nice way to record because I could sort of set it and forget it rather than having to find a place to mount and aim a camera while sitting on a bench or something.

I would need it to record at 4k for about an hour.
My video would likely be 1080p so that would give me some room to zoom in as needed in editing.

I have a little osmo pocket 2 cam that I have used but it can only record what I am drawing or what I am looking at but not both.

I need to keep me set up as minimal as possible too, so using multiple cameras isn’t really something I want to do.

As far as editing the video, that’s not a problem. I’ve done a lot of editing in the past.

Hanging out in Salida Colorado for FibARK (white water fest)

All of these were sketched and inked mostly on location. Some were partially painted on location. They were finished back in my rv each night.

I hate my Hahnemuhle watercolor sketch book. Recommend something better for me for fast fountain pen drawing and watercolor.

I bought a 100% cotton Hahnemuhle watercolor sketchbook when I was traveling last month and I hate it.

Drawing on it with a fountain pen feels weird and the ink doesn’t look very opaque. If I sketch fast the fountain pen skips and looks bad.
It takes watercolor well, but it also has a pretty crappy binding so if I am trying to paint across 2 pages, there are these ugly raw edges on some of the spreads that distract from the drawing.

I’m looking for something that will work better for fast and loose sketching but also handle some watercolor preferably without bleeding through the pages.

Previously, I’ve used moleskin watercolor books which handle sketching well, and watercolor ok, but the pages curl and buckle a lot.

I use royal talens sketchbooks for loose sketching without much color and I’ll keep using them, but looking for something that can handle more water on the page.

Maybe I need to try something hot press.

Ideas?

WTT Kaweco Diy Sport 2026 Glow New - Looking for Twisbi Eco

I just got back to the US from Italy. I picked up a 2026 Kaweco Diy Sport Glow in the Dark with a fine nib. It’s in new condition. They put a black cartridge in it after I assembled it so it does have ink in it.

I would like to get a Twisbi Eco with fine nib. I don’t care if it’s in new condition. It will be a workhorse pen for me. It just needs to function properly and not leak.

Lamy Safari Leaking with Platinum Carbon Black cartridges - any ideas?

UPDATE - I now know these cartridges don’t fit perfectly and I need to get a converter. Thanks

Somewhere along the line I heard they did fit.

Original post: I’ve been carrying my Lamy Safari Al with fine nib around urban sketching. It rides mostly upright in my pen case in a little backpack. Im sure it’s on its side sometimes.

I’m using platinum carbon black cartridges with the metal ball in them.

On the last few cartridges when I have opened it up to view the remaining ink, I’ve found them leaking like this into the body.

I also have a very hard time getting the platinum cartridges to open when I first install them. So much so, that I usually take something else pointy to help push the ball in when it doesn’t go in normally.

Do you think there is something wrong with the pen, or are these cartridges prone to leaking? Would this be solved by switching to a converter and bottle ink?

Thanks

Visiting Budapest - picked up these 2 vintage Tikkys - one marked made in W. Germany

The white one is marked “W. Germany” should mean it’s from 1990 or earlier.

Most of these are always in my travel case with me.
Most of them were picked up over the years. I work in industrial design and always liked hand sketching.

The Kurutoga metal is a new addition from friends that went to Japan. They knew I liked pens and pencils and got it for me. They didn’t even know what to get, just grabbed something cool looking.

The Kerry’s are my most frequently used. I travel a lot so I like that they are small when closed and completely protected. Each one has a different color lead. Blue in the blue one, red in the red one, and standard in the black one. This way I can do a light base sketch in blue, then refine it in red, the darken it with black or ink it.

Usually I carry a Tombow Fudenosuke pen for inking.

I’m trying desperately not to start hoarding every cool pencil I see since I joined this sub. But my will power is weak.

I was looking at pencils online and saw a familiar one. I picked this one up about 15 yrs ago. Probably on a work trip in Hong Kong.

I used to design watches and loved using it for sketching all the small dial details.

Of all the pens/pencils I’ve had and lost over the years, this one has stayed with me.

I guess I had decent taste hack then :P
