The keychain itself stays lit up thanks to 18 ice-blue tritium vials and 1 purple one, because as tough as it is being a Vikings fan, I’m not giving up on them.

I originally started building this because I have a TBI and my short-term memory can be pretty bad.

I needed something that would help me remember important items and tools I might need during the day.

I can swap different tools in and out depending on what I’m doing, which is making the whole system modular with:

1 purple vial hidden on the opposite side of the Isotope Triode.

The stainless-steel GPCA Pro X Key carabiner and aluminum AirTag case are basically the only metal parts that aren’t titanium.

Possibly the World’s Most Overbuilt Keychain

A 73-iteration titanium external-memory system built for life with Traumatic Brain Injury.

After surviving a traumatic brain injury and living with cognitive fatigue and short-term memory gaps. I've learned that ordinary organization methods were not quite enough.

For someone with a TBI, forgetting a key, tool, A MED, or regular necessity can become more than a minor inconvenience.

It can interrupt plans, create mania, and make vital independence harder than it already is.

As a speaker at conferences for TBI survivors, I've used this setup to demonstrate a practical alternative: instead of expecting an injured brain to remember every separate object, I decided to build one physical system that keeps those objects together.

An Air Tag can help locate the system, but if your phone is dead it cannot solve the deeper problem of forgetting the physical tool itself. Smartphone reminders can help, but phones lose power, apps disappear into menus, and notifications are easily dismissed.

I've spent more than a year and a half researching EDC systems, testing components, studying builds across a Massive amount of Reddit, Facebook groups, independent makers, marketplaces, and crowdfunding campaigns, then developing 73 distinct iterations of what became the customized-God edifying piece it is today.

After those searches and direct dives into EDC communities, I have not found another documented keychain that combines this level of tool density, titanium "magnification", modular integration, tritium as utility for location, personal investment, and cognitive-support into 1 modular piece and it pisses me right off

I am not claiming to have inspected every keychain ever made, but I would be shocked whilst very amped to find something full of recyclability and resilience. Exactly 1 year in this month and she's still scratch less.

The newly added titanium-alloy tritium cross pendant provides a battery-free visual anchor that remains visible in darkness for decades.

It does not need to be charged by sunlight, connected to electricity, or activated through an app. It gives the complete system an immediate visual reference point when lighting is poor.

The Air Tag notifies me if the keychain is not near me.

The Materials

Built primarily of titanium and other durable metal items chosen for long-use that quality provides. Repairability. Corrosion resistance and modular manuevering.

The new titanium chonk might be a bit much: wrench, pry, Phillips, flathead, and knife. But it brings a lot to the table, including 3 separate removable magnetic parts, so I’m giving it a chance.

Despite how massive this setup looks, it really isn’t that crazy in actual carry. It weighs about 1 lb, clips to my belt buckle above the pocket, then tucks into the pocket. No jingle. No clank. No jangling even allowed to audition. Titanium helps a lot with that.

Almost everything is titanium except the GPCA carabiner and the aluminum AirTag case.

I really dig the color combo the Ti and ice blue create. It has that cold utility glow without looking like a toy.

I gave ChatGPT and Claude the same challenge: write a 16-bar rap verse about my custom titanium EDC keychain, the Custos Chain / Elder Chain.

The chain has 18 tools, ice-blue tritium, a crucifix, and was built as a real TBI/memory-support system. It evolved over about a year. I’m also on day 3 after shoulder replacement surgery and still creating.

I am a disabled TBI survivor and speak at conferences for other TBI survivors and give ideas on ways to navigate the world of needing assistance from the state and gov but being stuck in a legal battle with ssdi/ssi and how to survive that. The keychain is my ice breaker after I’ve dropped the “when I was 9 months old I learned to walk and climb quicker than my parents could prepare.” I crawled off our 12 ft balcony falling face first onto jagged rocks fracturing my skull and knocking me out. Fracture actually saved me. Keychain might have had I had it and it had a grapple hook.

The only component that isn't Titanium is the GPCA Pro X Key carabiner.

This is modular with 4 locking magnetic quick releases by tikey.
Usually only carry about half the keychain around with me due to not needing a flashlight & usually nail clipper during the day. As well as a 2nd pry bar and removeable knife.

The Rovyvon Aurora A4 Pro Ti flashlight does get a lot of use. Cost about 115$ /w vials.
The chain itself is quite hard to miss in the dark and that's why I hooked up all the tritium.
Will Need more tritium in the upcoming future for the next one.

For a relevant size point, the inner circular band of titanium that holds the items is the size of a quarter.
In other words, it's not that much of a pain to carry the full thing around it just gets looped into a pocket from the belt loop and looks considerably more impressive in person in low light.
Always gets a visceral reaction. I speak at conferences as a TBI Survivor for other survivors and this is my ice breaker... Goes from a joke to a real system, that helps me remember stuff all the time, really fast.

9 months since I completed the build and all that's formed on it is the beginning of the patina. Ti is hard so very limited scratching and Ti is dull sounding when clanked together so its not jingly..
