First images from SMILE, capturing the full northern lights oval around the north pole in ultraviolet light. All in daytime, whilst invisible to the naked eye!

A few of my colleagues work on this mission – expect many exciting results to come!

A nice eruption of filament plasma from the eastern edge of the Sun this morning! The speed and direction of these eruptions are far easier to interpret when viewed side-on like this one (and not directed towards Earth in this case).

My collection of free eclipse glasses from the 2024 solar eclipse

I’m a solar astrophysicist, and spent the week prior to the 2024 eclipse doing public outreach around the Texas area. I collected a lot of free eclipse glasses in the process, as well a bunch from other institutions in Boulder, CO.

I think they look great collated like this! Does anyone else have any cool-design eclipse glasses or eclipse mementos?
