I feel like he would have liked Depeche Mode and loved The Jesus and Mary Chain, he would have definitely loved grunge and industrial music. I feel like he would at least appreciate shoegaze as well. What do you all think?
For those who don’t know Honeymoon Suite they are a band that was big in Canada (where I’m from) back in the 80s.
I should start off by saying that I still love George and his music but he could be a real asshole sometimes. Everyone talks about John’s history of bad behaviour but George’s flaws seem to get overlooked. He was a serial cheater, I’m aware that all of The Beatles were cheaters in the 60s but unlike Paul, Ringo, and maybe John, George never stopped and he cheated on Olivia more than he cheated on Pattie. Oh yeah and while he was married to Pattie he cheated on her with Ringo’s wife Maureen, I know Ringo was not a good husband to her but sleeping with your friend’s wife is very low. George was also bitter towards Paul for far too long, I understand why George was upset but he needed to let it go and move on after a while, besides he would have been the best songwriter in any other band and he wouldn’t have gotten to where he was without John and Paul. He was a hypocrite, he preached about loving one another but didn’t practice what he preached. Worst of all, he allegedly offered to buy Ginger Baker’s daughter. Wherever that was a joke or not that’s a horrible and inappropriate thing to say, if it’s even true that he said that.
Despite all of this, George is definitely the most popular Beatle among my generation (Gen Z), even more popular than Paul. Once again, I don’t think George was evil and I still love him but all this makes it hard for me to like him sometimes. Does anyone else feel this way?
It’s really nothing I really need to know but I’m just curious. Does anyone have any information?
Vince Clarke originally wrote and offered “Only You” to the others as a farewell gift when he left Depeche Mode, they of course turned it down and it became a huge hit for Vince’s first post-DM band Yazoo. But what if Depeche Mode had decided to record the song? How would it stay the same or how would it be different?
