Online Film Club
Hello everyone, a few days ago we started an online film club where we discussed movies throughout the world. For now, we're mostly a small group and want to add a few others into the club.
We usually discuss films by a "bingo card" system where a person randomly generates a number and then they'll have to choose a movie(s) according to the theme on the bingo card that corresponds with their number.
The group is formed on WhatsApp and we primarily communicate through whatsapp. So if y'all wanna join let me know!
Are there any other production houses led by big actors that support up and coming artists besides these two?
I feel like these are the only two production houses that actually help small artists get recognised. Especially PRK with French Biryani and Kavaludaari, and recently with all their short films. Daali pictures has their own team they like to use for feature length films but their youtube channel is basically a goldmine for kannada short films, they've helped many artists get the recognition they deserve. I don't see any other big time actors doing this even though many of them talk about wanting young talent in the industry. Are there any others that are doing this?

My review of "Karavali" 😕
I went to watch Karavali today as a last minute decision, mostly because I was bored. Ended up paying 300+ for the ticket and it was not worth it.
I'll start with the positives since the negatives are quite a lot. The film has some really creative camera work initially, they've clearly tried to give the film some stylistic weight. Also the editing is also pretty good here and there which compliments the camera work. Creative transitions, aesthetic colors, decent CGI, the cinematography and visual aesthetics department have done well. The actors for the most part have done a good job.
But that's about all the positives this movie has. First of all there's some sort of love interest and love story they've added that adds like absolutely NOTHING to the story. The heroine does absolutely nothing to contribute to the narrative. And of course they have a song about this absolutely unesscessary love interest. Oh coming to the songs, I genuinely feel like the writer probably couldn't think of dialogues to write, to compensate for that they added a song and a montage sequence to fast forward events in the film. It's very hard to sit through if the film starts to feel like a pseudo musical. And this happens wayy to many times, every time something happens in the film there's a song for it.
The action sequences are okay for the most part, nothing different. It's your usual slow mo montage sequence. I also think that Raj B Shetty's character is severely underutilized, he's supposed to be this sort of Main anchor for the events that take place in the film. Yet the film does not spend enough time developing the character, you get a song for him and then a fight scene and a few shots of him screaming and talking wisdom, that's it. You don't remotely feel connected to him. The main character honestly feels nothing special (even though they try their best to make him look like a super special character).
The storytelling/writing is very scattered, most crucial events happen when someone's asleep and then you'll hear someone else suddenly start crying loudly and then the main supporting character runs to the place of the event and starts crying, this structure is repeated like thrice or twice in the film and it feels very lack luster. The scene before the interval is trying to tell you something but you never understand it because of the way it's been edited to look like this montage between three different places and two different timelines, it cuts between these places extremely fast almost like a tiktok edit and it makes NO SENSE.
The score for the movie is decent, nothing too good or too bad, definitely not memorable.
Landlord was better than this.
This movie was actually pretty good
This movie was actually a breath of fresh air. Adee longu macchu bittu yeno hosathara maadidare.
It isn't perfect of course, some of the story during the middle act kinda goes everywhere and nowhere at the same time. But I still enjoyed watching this, The performances of the actors were actually pretty good especially the actress for Jessi (she looked absolutely terrifying). The cinematography was also very good, all the shots look very cinematic and pleasing. The music and songs were also pretty good.
I feel like the story could've gone better if they had handled the jealousy stuff with a bit more nuance and there's some tonal contrast here and there that kinda breaks immersion. But all over it was a solid watch!
If y'all haven't watched it, you should definitely give it a try!
Which movie should I watch?
Anything that I should add to this?
What some of the best edited trailers of kannada films?
I really liked the KGF 2 trailer, the movie wasn't all that good for me but the trailer was really engaging and very well cut. A very close second is the trailer for ASN , that was also pretty good but I don't really like long trailers so ASN fell short over there.

What are your favourite kannada movie trailers?
Do you ever feel like there's nothing going on in your life?
Life alli yenu nadithane illa guru. Some people atleast have rumours and gossips and all that other stuff, but there's literally nothing going on in my life bro. Only "exams that and part time this and skills that".

Can something happen in my life please.
Do you guys think poster designs in kannada movies are like really bad?
These are some of the posters from the recent movies that were released (or are going to be released).
When I see any of these posters the first thing that comes to my mind is "cheap and low quality".
It's grainy, very generic, does not have a direction, and does not maintain a theme. Utthara is the only one that's slightly better everything else is just bad.
This doesn't only apply for these movies, alot of these smaller movies have very bad designs.
The only exception recently was mango paccha , that movie had some great posters.
