I'm being taken for a ride - how do I resolve this? (UK)
Hi folks,
Any help is hugely appreciated!
I sold a brand new (unused) genuine car radiator that I bought but sold the car. The part is less than a year old, and is in perfect condition in box. It's £300 which I really need at the moment due to unexpected bills and the part cost £900 last year.
I accepted the offer via ebay from a guy who then turned up at my house at 5AM to collect it, despite agreeing 8AM... He was a walking red flag and even commented that he hopes it doesn't leak etc, a very strange guy.
He is now claiming the radiator is leaking, and has now opened a case with ebay to return it.
I have spoken with eBay via phone after fighting with their chatbot for about 15 minutes to get a callback, and they have said that he can return it if he says it's faulty, however if it's not the one he bought from me then they won't refund him, but I'm really worried they will just blindly side with him.
I have zero doubt that this is a fraudulent claim - it's brand new and he's quite clearly dribbled some coolant onto the front of the radiator.
He collected it on Sunday (yesterday) and has requested I refund him. I have told him I need photos of the radiator removed the car, and that he will need to pack it up to return.
I have uploaded a label for Royal Mail (it's cost me £30) to eBay, the label says post by 25/05 (a week from now) but eBay say he has until 8th June to return it. What happens if he doesn't return it by when the label expires? RM would refund me obviously, but more generally I don't know how this affects the return/eBay refunding him?
This whole thing is very stressful and quite triggering as I had a similar circumstance relating to a camera I sold on eBay 3 years ago for about £1500, and after this I can't see myself continuing to use the platform to sell on.
Any guidance is really appreciated! Especially how to try and to overcome any attempts if they return a different radiator.
Thanks so much!
