We’ve just added Manifest Branding to UltraMAX.

You can now customise how your UltraMAX add-on appears in Nuvio and Stremio, including:

Custom add-on name

Custom logo URL

Live preview before saving

Reset back to the standard UltraMAX branding anytime

So if you want your setup to appear as something like “Kris’ Movies”, “Kids MAX”, or whatever questionable masterpiece you come up with, you now can 😅

This is completely optional. If you leave it alone, UltraMAX continues using the normal branding.

A decent update for anyone building Ultra MAX setups for the kids.

We’ve expanded the Kids & Family side of Ultra MAX with a bunch of new selectable catalogues:

• CBeebies

• Nick Jr

• Nickelodeon Kids

• Cartoon Network Kids

• Disney Channel Kids

• Popular Family Movies

• New Family Movies

• Popular Kids Series

These join the Kids content we already had, including Disney Junior, PBS Kids, Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination, Family Musicals, Animal & Creature Adventures, Kids Superheroes and more.

Main Builder

The normal Ultra MAX builder now has an expanded Kids & Family Discovery section split into:

• Discover & New

• Preschool & Learning

• Kids TV Networks

• Family Themes

• Animation Studios

So you can just pick the individual rows you want and organise them however you like.

Ultra MAX Kids

The dedicated Ultra MAX Kids setup has also been expanded and now uses the same shared Kids catalogue pool.

The Kids & Family preset is now 7 folders / 22 rows.

We’ve deliberately not started automatically stuffing all of this into loads of pre-made collections. Everyone sets their kids stuff up differently, so we’d rather give you the building blocks and let you decide where everything goes.

It also saves us disappearing down another rabbit hole hunting artwork for 37 different cartoon collections. 😅

So for now collections haven’t been changed. Users will need to manually add new rows.

Dedicated Kids discovery rows continue to enforce adult-content filtering, and the existing Nick Jr youngest-rating behaviour is still intact.

Ultra MAX does not host movies or TV shows.

It is a discovery, catalog, metadata and configuration layer. Any optional third-party services are connected by the user using their own accounts or credentials.

The core Ultra MAX addon remains free.

UltraPlay+ is a separate optional companion with additional discovery and Nuvio management features

Family/profile recommendations:

MAX Picks and Taste in UltraPlay+ are profile-aware. The built-in Ultra MAX AI Recommended rows are still mainly tied to the Ultra MAX token, so profiles sharing one token may currently share that recommendation pool. Fully profile-aware Ultra MAX recommendations are something we're working towards.

Another fairly big UltraPlay+ update has just gone LIVE.

The main goal this time was to make MAX properly personal rather than treating everyone using the same UltraPlay account as one strangely inconsistent person.

Taste V4 is now Nuvio-profile specific.

Your selected Nuvio profile now has its own Likes, dislikes, watched feedback, saves, skips, Discovery setting and recommendation learning.

So if one person loves sci-fi and another can't stand it, MAX no longer tries to compromise by recommending something nobody wants.

We've also added a third watched rating:

Liked it / It was OK / Not for me

“It was OK” gives MAX a small positive signal. It basically means I didn't hate this, but please don't construct my entire personality around it.

MAX Discovery is now profile-specific too.

Each profile can separately choose:

Safe → Familiar → Balanced → Adventurous → Wildcard

The mobile Discovery control has also been redesigned so all five levels are visible without horizontal scrolling.

New profile content filters

You can now hard-filter:

• Anime

• Hindi / Bollywood

These are profile-specific and apply to MAX Picks, Finder and the personal Nuvio MAX catalogs. A hard filter stays respected even if Discovery is set to Wildcard.

Anime detection is deliberately targeted at Japanese animation, so enabling it doesn't suddenly delete Pixar, Disney or western animation from existence.

MAX Airing is now LIVE

MAX Airing looks at the series you've recently been watching on the selected Nuvio profile and surfaces upcoming announced episodes / season premieres, along with returning shows that are confirmed but still waiting for a date.

It's personal rather than a giant generic TV calendar.

And MAX has been given a much bigger playground.

The local recommendation/search universe has increased from:

35,000 → 60,000 titles

That's now:

38,000 movies

22,000 series

We kept the existing quality thresholds rather than simply filling it with obscure rubbish to make the number bigger.

That extra depth should especially help people using Adventurous/Wildcard, heavily trained Taste profiles, Max+ search and users who already have a large watched history.

Existing Plus users don't need to reinstall anything.

To configure the new personal settings:

We’ve just released a new UltraPlay+ feature called MAX Match.

Ever sat there with someone else scrolling for 20 minutes because one person wants one thing and the other wants something completely different? That’s basically what this is built for.

With MAX Match you can select 2–4 unlocked Nuvio profiles, choose Movies or Series, and MAX compares each profile’s own viewing history to find titles that should work for everyone.

It will:

• exclude anything any selected profile has already watched

• look for shared taste across genres, eras and viewing habits

• show an overall MAX Match %

• show the individual fit for each person

• explain why the recommendation was chosen

The important bit is how the score works. MAX deliberately gives more weight to the weakest person’s match, rather than just averaging everything.

So something that’s:

You 98% / Your partner 35%

should lose to:

You 84% / your partner 82%

because the second option is actually something both people are likely to enjoy.

MAX Match is read-only. It doesn’t change your Nuvio watch history and it doesn’t switch your active profile.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a small group of reliable Android users to help test the Ultra MAX app.

I’ve been working on a fairly substantial update behind the scenes, but I’m keeping the details quiet for now until everything is properly tested and ready. No point announcing half-finished stuff and then spending the next week explaining why a button has decided to live three inches to the right. 😅

The next stage requires a Google Play closed test, so I’m looking for around 15–20 people who already use Ultra MAX and are happy to help.

What I need from testers:

An Android phone/tablet with access to Google Play

A Google account you use with the Play Store

Willingness to join the closed test and stay opted in for at least 14 days

Actually use the app during that period

Report anything broken, confusing, ugly or just generally annoying

You won’t need to pay anything, and this isn’t about testing streams/content. I mainly want feedback on the Ultra MAX Android app itself, setup, navigation, account handling, different devices/screen sizes and general usability.

There are quite a few changes underneath the surface, so people who already know Ultra MAX will be especially useful.

If you’re interested, send me a DM rather than posting your Google email publicly. I’ll need the Google account email you use with the Play Store so I can add you to the private tester list.

Once everything is ready, testers will receive the official Google Play opt-in link.

For now I’m deliberately keeping the rest under wraps. 👀

Thanks to everyone who’s helped test, report bugs and throw increasingly unreasonable feature requests at Ultra MAX. Quite a few of those requests have somehow ended up becoming real features.

I’ve been doing a lot of work on UltraPlay+

The idea behind Play+ is pretty simple: instead of adding more and more separate tools, give MAX one place where it can help you find something to watch, learn your taste, manage Nuvio and improve your Ultra MAX setup.

The latest update has focused heavily on recommendations, because there’s not much point having an “AI” recommendation system if it keeps recommending random crap.

What Play+ can do now:

Max Picks V4 — personalised movie and series recommendations that actually learn from what you like and dislike. You can also use Teach MAX to quickly rate things you’ve already watched. Simply watching something does not automatically mean you liked it.

Smarter Finder — just choose Film/Series → Mood → Genre and MAX gives you three recommendations. The deeper questions are still there if you want to fine-tune things, but they’re completely optional now.

More Like This / Another Three — both have been rebuilt so they look at real similarities, your taste profile, creators, themes, cast, quality and more instead of just wandering around the same genre.

One Nuvio connection — connect Nuvio once from Profile Settings and Play+ can use that connection across the site.

Nuvio management — profiles, library, add-ons, plugins and more can all be managed from Play+.

Watch Hub — see your library, continue series and work out what to watch next.

MAX Autopilot — check your setup, spot things that need attention and help improve your Ultra MAX/Nuvio setup.

Build with MAX — create collections and MAX Channels with MAX guiding you through it instead of having to understand all the machinery underneath.

The bit I’m probably happiest with is that Finder and Max Picks now share the same taste system.

So MAX can learn that you tend to like certain genres, directors, themes, actors, eras, languages, runtimes etc., and then use that knowledge both when recommending things automatically and when helping you find something for tonight.

It’s still a beta, and I’m sure people will find things I haven’t thought of, but that’s exactly what I need now.

Ultra MAX now has 654 catalogs, with a big expansion to discovery alongside a load of improvements to the setup experience, collections and Nuvio integration.

🧭 More Discovery

We've expanded and improved several areas of the catalog library, including:

• Anime

• Documentaries

• Bollywood

• Kids & Family

• Fresh releases

• More themes and targeted discovery rows

• More dynamic TMDB-powered catalogs

A lot of these are designed to keep changing over time rather than just being another static list you eventually stop noticing.

There are also new collection presets, so you can add the parts you're interested in without dumping everything onto your Home screen.

🎞️ IMAX Movies

8.1.3 also introduces a new IMAX Movies catalog under Cinema Experiences.

It currently contains 1,000+ verified movies released in IMAX, using a locally maintained ID set rather than relying on an unreliable keyword search.

🔑 TMDB OR MDBList

This is one I've wanted to change for a while.

Ultra MAX no longer requires everyone to follow the exact same API setup.

You can now configure it with:

TMDB only

MDBList only

or both

If you don't provide MDBList, features that specifically need it simply stay out of the way.

Existing MDBList setups continue to work as before.

🎨 New Collection Artwork

Bollywood, Documentaries and Kids & Family have also had an artwork refresh, with new matching:

• Cover artwork

• Focus artwork

• Hero artwork

So the newer presets actually look like they belong in Ultra MAX rather than being adopted from three unrelated websites.

⚙️ Setup Improvements

Quite a bit of work has gone into making the configuration side less painful too.

Row Settings have been repaired, particularly on mobile and inside the Android app, so individual rows can once again reliably use things like:

• Sorting

• Minimum rating

• Minimum votes

• Year ranges

• Content controls

The final installation screen is also clearer about whether you're doing a new install, updating an existing setup, or are already current.

Collections navigation and the support flow have had some cleanup as well.

✨ UltraPlay+ Integration

You'll also start seeing UltraPlay+ integrated more closely with Ultra MAX.

UltraPlay+ can securely work with supported Ultra MAX settings, collections and AIOmetadata imports, as well as giving access to things like Finder, Nuvio Manager, Max Picks, Watch Hub and the full Arcade.

Importantly:

Ultra MAX is still free.

I'm not interested in taking features people already use in Ultra MAX and suddenly sticking them behind a subscription.

UltraPlay+ is an optional companion for people who want the extra tools, while also helping towards the server, API and running costs of keeping Ultra MAX going.

🛠️ And a lot under the hood...

8.1.3 also includes a pile of fixes and cleanup that aren't particularly exciting to put on a poster:

• Incorrect franchise mappings corrected

• Collection syncing/rollback cleanup

• Better mobile behaviour

• Improved Android compatibility

• Various catalog consistency fixes

• General reliability improvements

The release went through the full frontend/backend/app test suite before being promoted.

I’ve always been pretty clear about one thing with Ultra MAX:

I don’t want to put Ultra MAX itself behind a paywall.

But the reality is that as Ultra MAX has grown, so have the services running behind it.

Servers, databases, APIs, storage, development services and all the other wonderfully boring things nobody sees still have to be paid for every month.

And with more people using everything, those costs only really go one way.

So rather than turning around and saying:

UltraPlay then works through a much larger pool of titles and gives you actual recommendations based on what you picked.

You can keep refining the results, get another selection, watch trailers and send titles into Nuvio.

This has become one of the biggest parts of Plus.

From UltraPlay you can manage much more of your Nuvio setup in one place.

That currently includes things like:

There are also tools for working between Nuvio and Ultra MAX, which is something I want to keep expanding.

The goal is to make Plus useful if Ultra MAX and Nuvio are already part of your setup rather than creating another completely separate thing you have to use.

✨ Max Picks

Max Picks is the more personal side of discovery.

It learns from what you save and what you skip and starts shaping recommendations around you.

And it doesn't stop at UltraPlay.

Your personal Max Picks can be installed into Nuvio as your own catalogs.

So you can open Nuvio and have personalised movie and series recommendations sitting alongside your normal catalogs.

This is probably one of the areas I’m most excited about building further.

📺 Watch Hub

Watch Hub brings your Nuvio library into UltraPlay and adds some intelligence around it.

Your library, series progress, Max Picks information and watch context can all start working together instead of everything existing as separate islands.

There is plenty more planned here too.

🎮 Full Arcade

Plus also unlocks the complete UltraPlay Arcade.

There are currently 16 games.

Because apparently a media addon needed an arcade.

Naturally.

💷 How much?

I’ve deliberately kept the pricing low:

£1 per month

£12 per year

£25 lifetime

That’s it.

Payments are handled securely through Stripe.

UltraPlay doesn't store your card details.

Subscriptions can be managed through the Stripe customer portal and if you cancel, you keep Plus until the end of the period you've already paid for.

❤️ Why Plus instead of charging for Ultra MAX?

This is really the important bit.

Ultra MAX has server costs.

UltraPlay has server costs.

The Nuvio integrations, databases, account system and newer personalised features all add more infrastructure behind the scenes.

I could have taken the easy route and simply made Ultra MAX itself paid.

I don't want to do that.

I'd rather keep the core Ultra MAX experience available and build optional extras around it that are worth paying for.

So if you choose Plus, you're helping cover the running costs of the project while also getting something useful back for that support.

And if Plus isn't something you want?

Ultra MAX isn't disappearing behind a subscription.

That's the whole point.

I've also tried to make sure people who have already supported the project aren't immediately asked to put their hand in their pocket again.

Existing supporters I've allocated complimentary Plus access to will receive a personal redemption code.

Those codes are tied to the supporter’s email address and their complimentary period starts when the code is redeemed, not when I generate it.

What comes next?

Plus isn't intended to be a finished list of five features that never changes.

Now that the foundations are in place, I can keep adding to it.

More discovery tools.

More Ultra MAX integration.

More Nuvio management.

Better personal recommendations.

More Watch Hub features.

And whatever other questionable ideas I decide are apparently essential at 11pm one night.

The aim is for UltraPlay+ to become the companion layer around Ultra MAX, rather than Ultra MAX itself becoming something you have to subscribe to.

If you use Ultra MAX regularly and want to support the project, Plus is probably the best way to do it now.

And hopefully the extras make that support feel worthwhile too.
