Billing last minute rescheduling as a less than 24 hour cancellation

Was just made aware that we are not allowed to bill if someone reschedules an appointment 2 minutes before it starts. It has always allowed me to do this until yesterday. Is this a new update? I think that's actually insane. There's a student that does this with nearly every other session and it is such a waste of time. How can they expect us to give 1 hour of free labor when we cancel last minute, but they can't pay us for 1/2 of our time when someone does it to us?

Are you all dropping students over summer?

So, summer is coming up. This is my first year with Varsity Tutors, and I'm noticing that students are canceling all of their future appointments, but they aren't giving me any notice or explicitly saying why. Should I just drop them as students? I don't plan on keeping them past this term as I'll be busy after the summer. I expected people to actually remove me instead of just... cancelling all of their sessions without a word.

I just don't know if all of them are doing this because of summer or something else. I think 2 of these kids may have hated me because I wasn't just giving them answers. This one kid specifically would come to sessions with insanely specific questions, obviously based on an in-class reading that he didn't do, and would treat me like ChatGPT. I assigned him flashcards to make and do outside of sessions.... and he simply did not do that.

I was offered an Army HPSP scholarship for medical school but decided to decline before swearing in or signing any commissioning paperwork. I reached the point where my scroll was released but never signed or took the oath. About a week ago I notified my recruiter that I wanted to decline, and he basically blew up my phone with phone calls, including a phone call from the block number and he and one of his colleagues drilled me about why I wanted to decline the offer and try to pressure me into changing my mind. I stayed firm in my decision. I was then told there was a formal process, starting with a call to an Army physician followed by one with their “big boss” because he said I seemed confused. I had the call and the physician was understanding and said it was my decision. Since then I have asked my recruiter for the final paperwork several times, but he has not responded. When I called another person in the same office, they told me there is no paperwork and that since I never swore in, I have no obligation. Now I am confused because I am getting conflicting information and it feels like I am being pressured to continue despite clearly declining.

Do you all have any students that you just don't like? I tutor someone. Most times she speaks with a condescending tone. I'll explain an answer, and she'll look at me with her mouth open, swear I'm wrong, and we'll go in circles for several minutes unless I look up the answer and show her. It's like she can't trust that I know what I'm talking about when we don't agree on an answer and won't even hear me out on an explanation. It is the most annoying thing ever and I just stare at her at times because what more can I say?

**Incoming M1? Why tf does no one want a roommate? With the BBB passing, I would think that people would want to reduce the financial burden. However, it seems like everyone is simply taking out more (private) loans to cover the difference. It has been such a pain to find someone to live with. Anytime I ask the groupchat, everyone goes dead silent until someone changes the subject. This is so shocking because in undergrad it was so easy! Now, I'm considering just renting a room, but I don't want to live with non-students. Curious about what is everyone else doing and why.
