Super competitive rental market?

Is anyone else experiencing finding a rental extremely difficult at the moment?

My husband and I are expecting our first child next month and are looking to move out of our apartment and into a house or townhome but so far we’ve experienced a couple of these property management companies taking applications and then relisting the property with different criteria after we’ve already applied.

For example, we applied to a place listed by Vienna Property Management. They informed us we were 2nd in line for the property. A couple days later they removed the original listing, raised the rent, and changed the listing to exclude pets without communicating that to us. It’s been about 2 weeks with no update on our application. Before that we put an application in with RNB property management and they would also change the credit score requirements after we already applied and denied us based on the new requirement.

These houses are getting tons of applicants based on what we’re seeing from going to house tours and from what the tour agents are saying. We’ve been applying for over 3 months and these application fees are just adding up with no luck.

Dog rope knot toy

This toy was in the pet aisle and I assumed it was just a rope knot but I’d just like to warn pet owners that it’s not a safe toy for pets. There’s some type of glue holding the knot together and if your dog is a chewer they will end up ripping it off and swallowing the pieces. Luckily mine was spitting the glue chunks out like seeds. It’s in the trash now. My fiancé threw the tag away and gave it to her before I could look at it so sorry in advance if there was already some sort of warning on the label.

MIL’s roommate was scammed out of almost $100k

Hi all!

Like the title states, my MIL’s roommate (both F around 63-65) has been and still is a victim of a romance scammer. My MIL met her 1 year ago after moving in to her home. After a few months, MIL informed us her roommate didn’t drive and was always asking my MIL to take her to stores and banks multiple times a week. Finally after some time, she confided in MIL that she’s talking to a man who is stuck in Italy trying to collect some type of money from his wife’s death. Pretty much the quintessential scheme of a romance scam. MIL told us they communicate through WhatsApp and the store trips have been for purchasing gift cards.

We told MIL that she needs to let her roommate know that she’s being scammed. MIL was hesitant to tell her because she was scared of how roommate would react, being kicked out, or hurting her feelings? She’s a shy timid woman with little confidence to voice her personal opinions/feelings most of the time. I encouraged her multiple times to help her roommate but I couldn’t force anything. Eventually she told roommate and roommate refuses to believe it.

I’ve now found out that roommate has taken out multiple loans and credit cards for this scammer. He has access to her accounts, SS#, and almost all other personal info. She’s currently being sued by a major bank for around 30k and has maybe 30-50k in other credit card debt/loans for this man.

From what we’ve been told is my MIL is the only person she’s told this too. She has a husband that she’s separated from but still legally married to and own the home together that she’s living in with MIL. She has a lawyer now but refuses to tell the lawyer the situation, and is going to file for bankruptcy. The cherry on top is that she is still sending this man money because she’s convinced he’ll fix it all.

How can I help this woman?!? Just for additional info we live in California. Also, she’s not fluent in English and I don’t speak her language so me communicating with her is a no go.
