Vegan milk transition

I see so many posts in this community about people wanting to transition to veganism but can’t find good milk alternatives. I thought I’ll share my personal experience as a strict twice a day chai drinker for 24 years of my life.

Before I turned vegan I tried to stop consuming milk several times but as any addiction goes it never really was easy. Once I decided to stop buying milk altogether and a day later I found myself ordering a carton, making that chai and dunking that vita marie biscuit. It felt good.

Cut to a few videos later, watching the forced impreganation of cows, I was naturally devastated. And just like that, that very day, I stopped. There was half a carton of milk in my fridge and I just couldn’t consume it anymore. I never looked back. Sometimes I still feel like an adrak chai would fix my day. But is it worth the cruelty? And my answer was always a no. I haven’t tried oat milk with chai mostly bcos it’s outside my budget for daily consumption also bcos if I like the taste I know I’d want it every single day.

But if you’re someone who finds it difficult to transition, I would say it’s ok. Be half vegan. It can feel too much to give up a diet u were used to all ur life. I feel we’d rather have more people as partially vegan than none at all. And perhaps if we take smaller steps, it’ll get easier down the road where u won’t find the need to consume dairy after all. If all of us really did witness the cruelty of the dairy industry, maybe it wouldn’t be so hard? Idk.

anybody’s cat mouthbreathing/panting bcos of this heat?

my extremely playful 6 month old male tabby has started to pant after play. i took him to the vet and they’ve prescribed some meds. he probably also has feline herpes. but I can’t help but think is it also because of the scorching heat in Mumbai and other cities in India? Anyone else notice their cats panting in these months?

cat can’t stop panting after play since vet visit

My 6-month old male tabby is extremely playful. He was rescued by a shelter and they gave him a dose of tricat and rabies before we adopted him at 4 months old. I took him for his first vet visit last week and asked about neutering, so the vet took his blood sample. He was mouth-breathing during the commute and developed a fever of 102.7 (I live in India so it’s extremely hot at this time of the year). Now ever since the visit, he has panted thrice after play and all of these episodes stopped within a minute. I took away all his toys whenever it happened as he was getting overstimulated and didn’t know when to stop play. I can’t help but feel like it’s solely the vet visit that has thrown him off. Mind you he’s been a very very playful kitten and has never panted before. He always knew when to stop play even when the toys were near him.

Also the vet said there’s no official record of vaccination from the shelter and that I should vaccinate him first– they didn’t do it the same day bcos of the fever. Yesterday I called them and they told me to do a follow-up first, vaccinate, and then do another bloodwork again for neutering. I’m so nervous about another bloodwork plus multiple vet visits after his behaviour.

I’m just worried for him bcos he has never been so overstimulated after play and it’s already been a week since the visit. Shouldn’t he be fine by now behaviour-wise?
