I am a vegan because I'm an atheist

So I live in Bangalore and everyday I come back from work, I stand at this bus station and I see dogs being thin and hungry and a lot of them have injuries and it breaks my heart to see their pain and not being able to do anything, we literally destroyed their natural habitat and now, they r all suffering.

Like idk man, they did absolutely nothing to deserve this - I do carry dog biscuits and not actual dry food since they r expensive and I'm only an intern rn. Like can u imagine waking up hungry only to be beaten or getting a car??? I tried to contact shelter but they didn't respond mostly because they all r already full but these animals deserve a safe place too, they just want food and some love and i hate it that i can't give it all of them, I'm just crying as I'm writing this.

Like so much of suffering and I've so little to give, it's hard to digest that fact, I really want more shelters to open or at least legal provisions to be made so that stray animals can get food everyday from a particular place. They can't talk, we have to talk for them.

Edit: The title is a bit misleading. I didn’t mean atheism = veganism. I meant that without religious frameworks normalising animal consumption, I personally became more sensitive to animal suffering, which influenced my decision to go vegan.

Facing tremendous social pressure and becoming a matter of jokes for being Vegan

Hi, I am not able to withstand this social pressure for being a Vegan.

I have mostly vegetarian friends, I thought they will support the idea of Veganism. Instead, they have become my biggest nemesis.

They say that Veganism means giving up on milk ghee curd paneer butter, basundi, cakes icecream falooda. Basically more than 50% of the menu of even a vegetarian restaurant is gone. Why should we give up these and become Vegan?

Your Tofu tastes bad

Why should we take up the pain of finding Vegan alternatives of all these? Don't we have other tensions to take care in life?

We do not care if vegetarian food involves any animal cruelty. We are not consuming meat, we are more than happy with this.

Also they do not believe that cows are abused and later killed for dairy industry. They say you are talking about America. I once literally showed them the video where cows are exploited with visuals. Still they said we will eat paneer 💀. They hate veganism to the core.

What should I do in this situation? I have started to loose my childhood/College friendship because of this.

Edit: what words do you use in order to counter each of the above question?

Looking for people to do activism with

I (18M from Bengaluru) want to do activism on the streets, in public parks, etc. to educate people about veganism. If anyone in Bengaluru (particularly near JP Nagar, even if not, it's fine) is also interested in talking to the public, or can help record conversations to post online to reach more people, or can simply help with editing, please reach out.

Let's make this world vegan and achieve Animal Liberation, together.

I miss being a non-vegan.

I miss being a non vegan honestly.

I've been vegan for almost a 1.5 years now. I don't miss the food at all... I miss being a person who wasn't aware of the cruelty happening to animals in so many ways. Going vegan impacted me so hard that I left my design career and working as a full time animal advocate. This work is very exhausting... You have to deal with rescue cases, people who hate animals, and government officers who doesn't want to work.

I've rescued 7 hawks so far in my city. Climate change is so real... 5 of these hawks that I rescued were dehydrated. I miss being a person who wasn't aware. Just a weight of suffering sometimes feels too much.

With each rescue case, a weird stillness comes in, perhaps loneliness I am not sure. I was sleeping today and suddenly I woke up. Half awake I looked at my pillow.. it was brown in colour it reminded me of a hawk that I recently rescued and while I was half awake I said "I hope you are fine" then I realised it's a pillow.

I miss studying japanese too just don't get the time anymore because of the work. Honestly I'll never leave this field or rescuing wild animals even if it takes a huge part of me because animals don't have anyone.

This view alone is enough to challenge the flawed philosophy that claims joy comes only through indulgence and consumption. there is profound joy even in detached observation.

Genuine question about dairy ethics in India and protein intake

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to understand the ethical side of dairy in India properly. I do gym regularly and protein intake is important for me, so I currently use products from Amul because I heard it collects milk from local farmers instead of being like large factory farms in the US.

Is it actually more ethical compared to western dairy industries, or do similar unfair practices still happen here too?

Also, if anyone here knows better alternatives/brands in India for protein and milk products with better animal welfare practices, please suggest. Just trying to learn honestly, not start a debate.
