I have permanent diplopia (double vision), AMA

I have binocular diplopia caused by strabismus/amblyopia that cannot be treated through surgery. Ask me anything about my double vision!

How to stop feeling like you've lost so many opportunities

Sorry if the flair is wrong.

So I (18M) recently lost a bit of vision, I'm at 20/70 in my better eye right now. Now, I know that's on the far better end as far as visual impairment goes and I have no right to complain, but it feels like I'm constantly encountering situations where it prevents me from doing things I want or need to do. Especially when it comes to things where I need to be able to read, and the realisation I won't be able to get a driver's license. When I'm online I have to zoom into everything and it's frustrating because I used to be such a fast reader and I enjoyed reading things, when I'm outside it feels that way as well. I feel like it's worsening further even though there's no known reason as of now. Does anyone have any advice for dealing with vision loss, even when mild?

18M low vision with chronic pain, AMA

I'm unsure if this is interesting at all... But I'm currently managing life with a few conditions and thought others might find it useful. I'm low vision/have a moderate visual impairment and manage daily chronic pain, along with being autistic and having a few mental health conditions. AMA!

Question about level assessment

Hello, I have a question about how getting levels assigned works. So basically, I was diagnosed in a country with no levels, and did not initially receive a level. When I moved to a country that does have levels in the diagnoses, I got one assigned, but this was done by a psychiatrist who does not at all work with autism, I was there for a wholly different reason (bipolar episode). We didn't discuss anything surrounding my autism. I am decently sure this judgment was based on the fact I scored slightly above average on the IQ test because it says there are no cognitive issues. Is this how it is usually or should I inquire about it? My psychiatrist had mentioned maybe getting my autism reassessed so I'm wondering. For context, I live in Italy

Keep few belongings safe

Hello. 17M here. I've never been street homeless, luckily, but I don't know what to do in this situation. When I ran away years ago I was going to a shelter. But I have to sleep on the street at least for tonight and I don't know how to best keep my belongings safe.

I have clothes (shirt, shorts, jacket and shoes), phone, wallet, powerbank and a small bag over my shoulder. I was going to place the bag between me and the bench so I'd have to move for it to be taken. My wallet is also on my left side, against the upper part of the bench, and I have it tied to a carabiner. I was gonna shove the phone into my pants or underwear or something (kinda gross but yaknow). Let me know if any of that helps even a little and if you can think of anything else that could be helpful

Further context: I live in Europe. Not many people around. Generally I'm a deep sleeper which worries me more

AMA: I can't hear thoughts, I can only see them as text

I've no idea if anyone would care about something like this, but I've never met anyone who has this exact presentation so I guess it could be interesting?

If I think something, I can't hear it as words at all. As an example: say I see a picture of ice cream and think "wow, I wish I could get ice cream". I'm going to see that sentence written down exactly like that, in a sans-serif font, fixed in front of me, like an overlay on whatever I'm currently seeing.

There are other quirks in my way of thinking. For example, if I'm trying to recall something, I visualise it almost like an archive, opening folders labeled with topics. Or, if I want to entertain myself, I have the ability to think of objects I know very well as 3D renders, almost. e g., I'm a huge fan of F1, and I've seen things like a SF-25 from a whole lot of angles. It's like I can open it as a Blender file and view it from every perspective.

This could be pretty normal stuff and I wouldn't know because I don't talk about this kind of stuff to people often, but the people I've mentioned it to seemed interested, so ask me anything about it :)

Would a mohawk fit me?

Both pics taken recently, my hair just misbehaves a lot of the time lol. Pic 3 is the kind of thing I'd wanna get, without the dyed hair on top. I feel like it looks cool but I'm also a late bloomer in terms of facial hair so I worry it would look awful with a bald chin

Recommendations for accurate & accessible books?

Let me know if this kind of post isn't allowed, I'm not sure if it's too repetitive as I'm new to the sub.

Being autistic, I obviously had a dinosaur phase. I found a lot of comfort in learning about all kinds of prehistoric creatures, and while my special interest has since strayed, I often yearn to read or learn about paleontology again. I set out to find a few books on the topic, but I ran into two issues:

  1. I don't know which authors are reliable and accurate to modern day science.

  2. At my local library, I found that a lot of the beginner-oriented ones tended to rely on images. I have horrible eyesight, and while I carry aids and I'm able to zoom in on my devices, it's kind of hard to understand the full picture of something like a fossil when I'm looking at small areas of it. Of course I understand that illustrations are great and I don't mind them on their own, it's just that sometimes I really couldn't understand what was going on without the context of the illustration, if that makes sense.

Do you guys have any recommendations that avoid those two issues? I can imagine this is a bit specific so no worries if not.
