Is owning a Tesla actually cheaper? (I live in Alberta)

Considering getting Tesla next yr or the yr after because I thought it could be cheaper to drive, plus I have always believed it is a fun car to drive. However I did some research and realized it might not always be the case. Would like to see some advice!

I live in Alberta. Currently renting an apartment with no level 2 charging, plus the parking lot is outdoor. Any Tesla drivers in the same situation and is it going to be a hassle owning a Tesla this way?

Also how does insurance compare to when you had ice cars? This is my second year driving in Canada and the current insurance with my Tiguan is 320 per month, don't know if it is going to be much higher and how much.

Thank you in advance!

Bad vibration

Thanks for any advice in advance, I am not a car person so some of my ideas or questions might sound too basic and sorry for my bad English 😜

This new gen Tiguan has been running smooth since I got it last June. The bad vibration started after I changed to my winter tires, though I am not saying the winter tires is the cause because I don't think the issue came right after the tire change, also the issue is still here after I changed back to the all season tires.

I don't know if vibration is a good word for it. It feels alright at low speed but at mid speed (I would say above 40) it hops pretty hard. It feels just like when I was little, riding bike into a wall turns the tire into that oval ish shape, and if you keep riding, you hop up and down. It feels exactly like that, just not that hard but still annoying. I tried driving on a very smooth and flat road that‘s just surfaced, still hopped. I don't know if it amplifies the road unevenness or the car itself is bouncing because of rim or tire issue. At high speed, the hop isn't as hard, but it's a finer and more frequent shaking.

I first thought it was the tire problem, I went to Fountain Tire and described how I felt. They can't really identify what's wrong from the description, but they believed doing a balance first would rule out some problems. It actually felt a little better after the balance. Before the balancing the shaking was so bad even the steering wheel constantly shook. Now the car doesn't shake as badly but the issue is still there. I am guessing it's a mechanical issue instead of a tire one?

Now my concern is that I don't know the cause of the issue and I don't know what to do.

  • Do I just take my car to a tire shop or is the dealership better (I'm assuming if it is a vw problem then the dealership might be better at it?).
  • Is it going to take multiple tests before we know the cause? That's going to cost a lot right? Or it doesn't sound like a too mysterious issue to those of you who know cars?

I wondered if it was me being paranoid, so I invited my friend to test drive it (he was with me the day I picked up my car last June), he confirms it's different from back then, and it does vibrate now.

Survey from JD Power and VW

I have been having some minor but annoying issues with my 2025 Tiguan, and they didn't really get solved. Just finished a long and detailed survey from JD Power and VW. Was a good chance to describe my issues in detail but I'm just wondering if this survey is just for some general stats, or they will actually follow up and look into them for ME?

Jerky transmission (2025 Tiguan)

Got this Tiguan last July, 21000km right now.

Not a recent issue, started to experience this jerky thing since last September. It has just gotten worse and worse. At first it was not so bad, and I told myself it is probably a common thing. Now it's just to a point where I can't ignore anymore.

What troubles me the most is that I am 99% sure the car didn't feel this way when I first got it, and this is making me wonder if it was me not driving the right way like those little bad driving habits, or there is just something wrong with this particular vehicle.

I brought this up with the dealership, they just told me it is totally common and wouldn't look into it.

Does anyone else experience this same issue?
