Lost Cat: Update 4, Saffron Jack

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SALEM/s/MfG2NU6qo5

The stray without a name has officially been named! Jack the cat is doing fine. He went in for his leg amputation on Sunday morning to Friends of Felines.

As far as they can tell from the X-ray (TW: animal in pain) >!Jack was probably ran over by a car at about 6-9 months old. His hips were fractured, but healed on their own. The leg, however, was not so lucky; it broke completely sideways, and healed at a 90-degree angle. He was getting sores from trying to walk on it. They had multiple vets weigh in, and amputation was the only option.!<

The staff at FoF have nicknamed him "Saffron Jack," and he's getting all the care he needs. One of our crew went to go visit him today, and gave him some treats. It's going to be another couple days before he can go home, but some people here seemed to want updates.

And furthering the update, we've taken care of the costs of the surgery in-house, but are continuing the fundraiser. Every time you buy a Celite faucet or Pioneer shower head, $50 goes towards Friends of Felines. We're right at $600 so far! We'll also accept donations of food or litter for the duration of the month that will go to Friends of Felines as well.

We'll update you all when he can come home.

-J

(The name Jack is in reference to Spring-Heeled Jack, a Victorian-era urban legend from London. He's going to be zipping around before ya know it.)

Saffron/Friends of Felines Update!

Our first post about our fundraiser had a lot of feedback to the point where it reached another company! Celite is a manufacturer of high-end showroom faucets, and they've discounted some items and shipped us some stock to help our fundraiser for Friends of Felines.

For every Celite faucet sold on our fundraiser, $50 goes towards a surgery to help Jack get back on his feet; literally. Jack was a stray taken in by one of our crew that has such a badly mangled foot, it needs amputation.

Once we hit our goal, everything over that goes directly to Friends of Felines to help other people in similar situations.

Come snag a faucet or upgrade your shower with style for a good cause. Thank you Salem!

Saffron Supply/Salem Friends of Felines Fundraiser!

Previous post(s): https://www.reddit.com/r/SALEM/comments/1vagmg0/lost_cat_update_3/

Howdy, Salemanders.

If you've been following, one of our crew found a stray cat. Poor thing has a BADLY mangled foot. After months of feeding and trying to earn trust, we snagged the little dude and got him to a vet.

Not chipped. Not neutered. Likely born a stray, and been that way for two years. Fleas, underweight, and the aforementioned broken leg that, after assessment by a vet, needs amputation.

We saw this as an opportunity to do some good. Starting today, we're doing a fundraiser for Salem Friends of Felines, who will be performing the operations and treatments. Now through the end of the month, for every one of these docking shower heads we stock, $50 goes to Friends of Felines. This is in partnership with Pioneer Industries Faucets, who are selling these shower heads to us at a massively discounted rate for the cause.

Can't make it in during our normal hours? Call 503-581-7501 or email HelpDesk@SaffronSupplyCo.com and we'll ship it anywhere in the state of Oregon for $5. Out of the state of Oregon? Case by case basis, I suppose. We'll figure it out!

After the surgery, one of our team members has already offered to adopt him... And name him Jack.

Jack be nimble, boots of Spring-heeled Jack, Jumpin' Jack Flash, etc. He cannot be a shop cat, due to the heavy traffic, machinery, and overall nature of the location we're at. We will post Jack updates periodically, as well!

Tell your friends, tell your co-workers, tell your twice-removed cousin in that one branch of the family that nobody likes talking to. And if we end up selling out, we will NOT process payment until we get more in stock. Right now, we have about 30 total. It takes us about a week to get more.

Last, but not least... These shower heads are kinda bomb. Two-in-one shower head with a wand and some pretty decent water pressure. And, as someone with allergies, this shower head has a steam setting, so you can crank the heat and steam up your shower; breathe deep and clear them sinuses.

Thank you for your support, Salem!

Lost cat: Update 3

First post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SALEM/s/35hL2wVt9O

Second post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SALEM/s/pHOJk85cKP

Today's plan was a success. The unnamed "Floof" (as we're calling him) was nabbed and whisked away to Hoffman Veterinary Clinic. They confirmed that this sweet little guy has no chip, and has likely been a stray his whole life. Which is strange, because he's just so nice.

After a long day at the vet, with vaccinations, flea treatment, and a general check up... The vet has found that his back leg is severely messed up. Possibly hit by a car as a kitten, and never healed right. He's limping pretty hard.

Which is where the unfortunate news kicks in; his leg needs to be amputated.

We paid around $300 today for the exam, but the amputation (and neutering), after treatment, and all the medicine that goes into this is $1300~.

Does anyone know of a clinic that might be able to help out? This may be posted by the Saffron official account, but it's an employee-run account; and brother, this employee has had some hardship financially recently with family events that lend to cash being a bit tight.

If it's $1300, that's what we'll do. We'll put it on a payment plan or a credit card, because mama didn't raise someone who lets animals suffer. Just trying to find a way to help out our new friend while also making sure we're not leveraging three months of groceries to do so.

Also, for the people in the comment section of the last post, this cat cannot be a shop cat. I would love that, but Front St is a VERY busy street, with fast cars, trains, and a night-time population of questionably acting individuals. I want them to be safe, fed, and loved; which is exactly what they'll get at home.

Any suggestions welcome. And if there's interest, I'll keep updating. Who doesn't love cats?

Update: Lost Cat

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SALEM/s/2uYjjzcfwh

It's been two weeks of careful feeding, standing back, and patience, but we've finally got this little dude to approach. Nobody has reached out to claim him, so... The only thing we can think to do is whisk him to a vet.

We're going to make sure he gets fixed, gets his shots, and flea treatment. Unsure where to go from there, but if anyone recognizes this guy, please let us know.

Unsure what this is going to cost, but we're going to Hoffman. They've been fantastic in the past.

Will update if we can pull this off. Think positive thoughts for our fluffy friend!

Found Cat/Center St

Hey y'all,

This wonderful feline has been blessing our back yard for the past few months around Center and 45th. They're obviously not a stray. They come really close to our back door, they seem to be drawn to our two indoor cats as they communicate through the sliding door, and... Well, you can just tell this was someone's baby.

If anyone recognizes this amazing cat, please message me. They're not forthcoming enough to approach humans, but we've slowly been winning them over with food and water.

If we can wrangle em, we're going to get them checked out at the vet and make sure they're healthy. But if someone knows where their home is, we'd love to help.

Hoping we can help this furry friend find their human family.

Saffron/Tire Situation Resolution

We really weren't expecting to get this much attention surrounding a plumbing supply shop having tires dumped on the property. But, as someone who's been on Reddit for a very, very long time, I understand that everyone here craves resolution.

So, here's what happened.

Someone that shall remain anonymous was gracious enough to give us a lead into finding the owner of the vehicle from the picture of the license plate. After sending an employee to double check, we did verify that this was our mysterious Ford driver. Attached to that license plate was also a CCB number, which is publicly available.

A few clicks later, and I found the phone number for the owner; Todd Wing Construction.

The video attached is Mr Wing picking up his tires after the phone call that you hear.

Everything shakes out in the end, one way or another. I hope that I'm doing my part by providing adequate follow-up, and I will make sure to post a cat tax in the comments as well.

Thank you for your support and interest. We love you as always.

Saffron Supply/Not a tire dump

To the gentleman who mistook "Saffron Supply" for "Tire Dump Site," we get it. The lines for the dump are long on weekends, and it's hot and smells bad. We get it.

We at Saffron Supply enjoy providing community services as much as the next century-old-locally-owned-plumbing-supply-shop; like supporting a food truck on our lot that focuses on second-chance rehabilitation for former felons and at-risk teens, attempting to hire local artists for murals (still forthcoming, hit a bit of a snag), and collectively doing our part to make new construction and remodeling more affordable.

However, we can't recycle tires.

Here's the deal, Mr. Redshirt. We won't press charges for littering on private property. We will if we have to, but that's not how we'd like for this to go down. We'd just like you to come and pick up the tires. Are we going to watch you from the dock? Absolutely. Is there going to be music, applause, and maybe some other fanfare? Oh completely. But it's less than a fine.

Come back, my dude. Come to us and reclaim your rubber inventory.

License plate and closeup in the comments section. Let us know if you're familiar with this benevolent donator of tires.

-J

EDIT 11:32AM
Someone called and gave us a potential address. We're going to do a fly-by and make sure the truck is there. Stay tuned.

EDIT 12:55PM

Person located. Called to speak with them. They're supposedly picking up the tires. Let's wait and see...

EDIT 1:30PM

This situation has been resolved. Posting something a little bit later tonight...

Friday, June 26th; Saffron Supply Showroom Grand Opening!

LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL, SALEMANDERS.

Tomorrow's the big day! 11:45, we're doing a ribbon cutting on our showroom finally. It's been two-and-a-half years of building, designing, scrapping, fighting, redesigning, negotiating, crying, and at least two people blacking out and calling an Uber to get this thing done.

We're going to have giveaways, swag, vendors to yell at, catered lunch by HYB (an employer for at-risk teens and second chance adults), and one dude who's going to be hiding in a corner rocking back and forth hugging their knees because they don't like crowds or speeches.

(me. it's me. I'm terrified.)

Come check out some fancy stuff, snag a burrito, and be my human shield of having to interact with too much stranger-danger!

See you there, Salem.

The Mural of the Story is...

Gooooooooood morning, Salemanders.

We're right on the cusp of our showroom grand opening (Friday, June 26th, 11:45AM if you want to come party), and we have an issue with looking at whitespace. It's boring, man.

I proposed to the work fam "why don't we get some Salem art up in here?" This was met with a counter-proposal; why don't we get Salem ARTISTS up in here?

Amateur, professional, and any medium you choose. This is a paying gig, DOE. Ever since the City of Salem shut down our idea to put a mural on the west-facing side of our building on Front street, we've been searching for a way to support the local art scene.

We essentially have four spots, all in the picture circled in different colors. I'd love to feature four different local artists to showcase their work on our walls.

The only requirement is that it's gotta be about Salem. Other than that, it's pretty much up for grabs, subject to approval from the whole work team here.

Comment below, or email Joe@SaffronSupplyCo.com if you're interested! I'll reply to all comments below as usual. Even if it's off topic.

Hit us up, Salem.

-J

(It doesn't HAVE to be done by opening in 9 days. It'd be cool to have one done, but I recognize it's our own shortcoming to have an idea THIS late in the game. Shame on me.)

Saffron Supply, Salem's Oldest Business, Gets Cooler

Hello, my dear Oregonians!

Lifetime Salem resident here with Saffron Supply Co, established in 1910.

After 116-years of being Oregon's coolest resource for all things plumbing, we're proudly unveiling our first expansion in a century; Salem's own locally-owned decorative plumbing showroom! We're going to have representation from all our sponsors, and catering for everyone in attendance by a company named HYB. They focus on hiring at-risk teens and giving people a second chance to learn one of the most important skills out there; how to cook.

Reddit has always been our favorite place for talking about how to keep things local, to the point where the majority of our staff has been hired from Reddit.

We're looking to continue the tradition of serving local, and we hope you've got some time to drop by on June 26th with the official ribbon cutting at 11:45AM.

I'll answer any questions in the comments below. We're looking forward to seein' you!

Saffron Supply/June 6th Garage Sale!

You want stuff? We've got stuff. So much stuff.

We're joining Salem Garage Sale Day this Saturday, June 6th, from 9AM-2PM. Come walk our two warehouses and see the insane amounts of leftover irrigation stuff we have, and score on some deadstock fixtures.

Examples:

Irritec drip fittings as low as $1

Drip tube coils marked below our 2022 price when we bought it

Kitchen sinks for $75

Toilets, $50 - $150

Pedestal lav sinks, $75

Also a smattering of commercial plumbing goodies, too. PLEASE tell me you need a commercial ADA flushometer style toilet, and I'll get you a lifetime supply for $45/ea.

There's a bunch more, those are just some examples. Realistically, you need to come by to see what I'm talking about.

There's... There's so much. Ugh.

See you Saturday!

Dark Salem Jam: June 5th, 5PM

DARK SALEM RIDES AGAIN.

This Friday, open call for any Salem-or-surrounding area musicians. If you're not familiar, Dark Salem is a "band" that has no formal lineup. This is a gig where you can just come in and practice with other people who want to hone their craft.

Last time was a massive success. We had a cello, keyboard, a few guitars, a TROMBONE, several people that could sing, and a few people that came with music of their own that we turned into full songs. We played from 5pm and the last people left at 2am. Stay as late as you want, bring your own food and beverage, and come ready to jam.

We have ten slots open. All you need to do is email Joe@SaffronSupplyCo.com for a reserved spot and a passcode. When the slots fill, everyone will be emailed the passcode for entry.

I'll make another post either Wednesday or Thursday as a reminder if anyone missed this post that would like to play.

Who: You, a musician

What: Dark Salem Jam

When: 5:00PM on Friday, June 5th

Where: Saffron Supply, 1450 Front St NE Salem, OR 97301

Why: Your guess is as good as mine

No drummers. I have ONE PIECE OF JOB SECURITY.

Saffron Supply, Showroom Grand Opening 6/26/26

SALEM! IT'S DONE! IT'S FINALLY DONE!

After three (insert expletive here) years of planning and drafting, demolishing and constructing, negotiating and dealing, our showroom is finally slated to have the grand opening on June 26th at 11:45AM! We're going to have a bunch of people for you to meet and ask questions, PLENTY of displays to check out, tubs to sit in, and catering courtesy of HYB.

If you're not familiar, HYB is a food truck that focuses on rehabilitation for at-risk teens and giving people a second chance. They're open for business, W-F 7AM-1PM, but they just confirmed that they're using June 26th as their grand opening as well! They've also got a secret menu for this event, so be sure to keep your ear to the ground for some specials...

If you're interested in coming by for a pre-tour, the doors are open. We'd love to hang with you and dream about cool bath and kitchen stuff together. As usual, we'll reply to all comments for anyone with related or non-related questions. We'll answer it all. It might not be accurate, but we'll still provide answers.

See you there!

-J

(Also posted this to r/Oregon, we'll see how that goes. Stranger danger and whatnot. I prefer y'all anyways. Just don't tell them I said that.)

Saffron Supply is PROUDLY sponsoring HYB Community, a non-profit in Salem that focuses on rehabilitation. To quote their website:

"When a young person begins to recognize the value of their community, they are far less likely to harm it. We foster a sense of belonging and purpose, helping youth build respect for the world around them."

All employees of HYB get counseling and mentorship, and learn skills that lend to bright futures.

Our friends will be here for the foreseeable future at 1450 Front St slinging a mix of Mexican and American food (current menu on second image), and expanding their menu and hours as we dial this in. Rumor has it, we could see some carne asada fries soon.

Current hours, Weds-Fri, 7AM-1PM.

We stand behind our community and those who do well by it, and we stand behind HYB! Come get you some tacos. And while you're waiting, you can come check out our BRAND new showroom that just opened on May 1st. We still have some work to do, but you can at least see what we've got so far.

Super excited to see these guys succeed! If you have any questions, I'll reply to any comments.

Thank you, Salem.

-J

(Also, as someone who is quite discerning when it comes to food, I got the $10 6-taco platter and it was as good as any restaurant I've had. My soul is happy HYB is here, my waistline has conflicting thoughts)
