I finally have a bookshelf for myself. I wonder how long until the kid's books make it onto this one too.

I made this bookshelf out of red oak plywood and solid red oak. My inspiration were walnut bookshelves with a dark green back. Since everyone wants walnut right now, I went with a cheaper option. I wanted a bookshelf that had minimal wasted space. I designed the shelf dimensions to fit a trade paperback comfortably. If anyone has recommendations for small lamps that sit/clamp to the top and hang over, I would appreciate that.

Coming out of retirement after 14 years.

I haven't picked up my bass for more than a few minutes in about 14 years. Earlier this year I got it out and started playing again. Just fooling around and trying to remember songs that I knew by muscle memory. After a few months of playing alone I decided I wanted to try to find a band to join, or at the least, a drummer to jam with. After a few posts in local groups I found a band that needed a bassist. It was perfect. Very close to home. Laid back. Talented musicians that are easy to get along with. They play 50s/60s/70s hits and blues. The first couple of practices have gone really well. I'm surprised how much is coming back to me and how quickly.

Here is where I need help. This is my current inventory of gear:

2008 Schecter Stiletto Elite-5 with SIT power wound strings.
Behringer 1x15 practice amp.

The lead guy in the band is very talented when it comes music and sound gear. The basement we practice in has a good sound board and PA system that everyone runs through. I was worried about this going into it, but it worked pretty well. I didn't like my tone though. I strive for a warm but punchy with clear highs type tone. I have never owned any pedals.

My questions:
Would some type of pedal (pre amp, DI) help me to control my sound better in the PA?
If so, what is a good starter one on a budget?
For live gigs, should I bring my practice amp to run in line with the PA so I have a speaker close to me so I can hear myself better?
Would my practice amp serve the same purpose as the pedal?

Thanks for reading and for any help and advice!

Bass player looking for a band or group to play with in Olathe, KS.

Hello. I'm not sure where to look for this. I haven't played in a band setting in about 14 years. I've been practicing lately and would love to get back into playing with other people. I was in a 3 piece rock band for a few years while also playing in a contemporary church worship group for 6 years. I'm not a church goer currently, but would consider joining a worship team if the fit was right. Even if you're just a drummer or a guitar player, I'd love to get together and jam. Thanks for reading!
